I loved how Ryan came up behind the judges’ table and asked, “Who is leaving tonight?” Of course, at face value it seemed like he was talking about the three remaining contestants. But it also hinted that Randy is leaving, an announcement he just made.
One more week and we’ll have the winner. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready. Idol fatigue is really bad this year.
The Top 3 started the show by performing a fine, but bland version of “Who Says.” Season 10 runner up Lauren Alaina sang “Barefoot and Buckwild” from her upcoming second album. I was surprised that she barely looked like the girl she was two years ago. The song sounded very repetitious, but had a nice dance hook.
What to say about Mariah’s video of her newest single “#beautiful”? It had almost a teasing, porno feel to it with her posing sexually, especially when she has her legs wrapped around Miguel on the back of his motorcycle and panting in his ear (while his tongue is sticking out). What’s worse, she called this a “toned down version” from the one she’ll release on the internet! The song is just OK, BTW.
Alicia Keys sang “Tears Always Win” and she showed off her serious chops. It wasn’t the most dynamic performance, but it was the best of the night.
JIMMY SAYS (even though he already critiqued Wednesday night)
Round One: He thought it was fun because they didn’t get to choose the song. He selected difficult songs to make them rise to the challenge. Round One, Angie won, but he felt she could have had more of a moment if she played the piano.
Round Two: Kree had the perfect combination of home story and song. It was so emotional that he gave her the round.
Round Three: He said that Angie did well, but not more than competent. Kree’s song was all about attitude and he gave her an A for that. But if Candice goes home, he’s going with her, he promised, saying that she had a real Idol moment.
Two in the Finale: Candice Glover (the judges gave her standing O at the announcement) and Kree Harrison. The two I wanted – I can’t believe it. That meant Angie will be going home. She falls apart during her swan song. (Don’t worry, as one of the top finalists, she’ll be back next week.)
