The group is trying to decide on an idea for their final history project. Annie comes up with something about banners and Jeff is totally on board with that because it’s easy and it’s doable. Annie wants to know what Troy and Britta are going to do for their one year anniversary tomorrow. Neither one of them remembers anything about that, but Troy remembers that today is the third year anniversary of the first time he and Abed watched “Freaky Friday” together.
Troy and Abed both wish they could be the other and they start spinning and the lights start flickering and we think they’re going to switch bodies, but no. Jeff sums it up nicely. “We’re all floored that didn’t work.”
But…it actually did work! The next morning Troy and Abed have switched bodies. The actors do a fantastic job of impersonating each other. I love this kind of stuff. Troy/Abed says they have to recreate the exact moment in order to switch back.
Jeff is having none of this nonsense because he wants to get this history project done since he needs this grade to graduate. He goes to Dean Pelton for help getting Troy and Abed switched back. Dean is intrigued and he attempts to switch with Jeff. He thinks he has and starts to act Jeff-like. Shirley and Annie want to find out why Leonard is first in the valedictorian race so they go to Dean for help. Annie is strangely attracted to Dean/Jeff.
Britta still goes on her anniversary date with “Troy”. She sets up a guy to dis “Die Hard” in order to break him out of his act. It doesn’t work. Jeff works on “Abed”. During the montage, we learn that Troy wants to break up with Britta so he pretended to switch bodies with Abed so he wouldn’t have to deal with it.
Jeff tells Troy he needs to own how he feels and he gives him props for committing to the bit and to his relationship with Britta. Jeff tells him he needs to do it in person. He owes Britta that. Troy and Abed switch back and Troy breaks up with Britta in person. It’s an amicable split and pretty sweet.
While everyone else was out doing what they were doing, Pierce did their banner project for them. Apparently, he’s the banner savant because it’s awesome. Way to not suck, Pierce!
Most of this epsiode was just okay, but the part with Troy/Abed’s body switch was really well done, I thought. Donald Glover did a great job with Danny Pudi’s movements and mannerisms and vice versa. As someone who’s done a fair bit of acting, I found it really interesting. Your thoughts? Leave them below!
