Corrine has just had it up to here with Phillip. She decides she’s going to do what she can to topple Phillip’s alliance. Is it successful?

The return of the gross eating challenge! Who had the will to persevere and down beetle larva and other crawly things?

Pre-credits

Night 19. Bikal. After returning from Tribal Council and voting out Julia, Phillip pulls Dawn and Corrine aside and tells them he threw the challenge (you’ll recall he told Cochran the same thing). He says he made the decision during the challenge. Corrine tells us she doesn’t believe this in the least. Dawn and Corrine talk to each other about it and Dawn can’t understand it, “Why not just say you screwed up the challenge?”

Pre-Challenge

Here’s who’s left after Julia was sent packing.

Gota: Eddie, Reynold, Andrea, Erik, Malcolm, Sherri, and Brenda

Bikal: Corrine, Phillip, Michael, Cochran, and Dawn

Day 20. Bikal. Phillip tells Cochran, Dawn, and Corrine that when they do merge, no one-on-one conversations with the Fans. He doesn’t explain why.

Dawn tells us you have to be a decision-maker in the game, you can’t let the game happen to you. That’s what happened to her last time.

Gota. A boat arrives with news of a merge. They get on the boat and go to Bikal’s beach. Reynold explains to us that he doesn’t know what the word “ironic” means.

Malcolm pulls a fast one. He tells people “Enil Edam” means “New beginning,” but it’s really just “Madeline” backward and Madeline is his mom. The new tribe is named Enil Edam and Malcolm’s mom gets a nice gift.

Phillip talks with Andrea about how the two of them plus Dawn and Cochran are a tight four and one of them could win. Andrea is on board. He says he lays in bed and pretends he’s Boston Rob and plans his strategy. He says Reynold and Eddie have to go first.

Corrine talks with Malcolm about how crazy Phillip is. They talk about what to do. They count their votes and they have six out of 12 votes. They decide to take out Sherri and then Phillip.

Day 22. Tree mail. Gross eating challenge time.
.
Immunity Challenge! Immunity! Back up for grabs!

Individual immunity from here on out.

First round: Andrea, Sherri, Corrine, Erik, Eddie, and Malcolm. First three to finish advance. They uncover their plates and there are two live beetle larva.

Andrea finishes first. Malcolm is next and then Eddie.

First round for the other six. They’re also eating beetle larva.

Cochran wins easily. Phillip is next. Michael is third.

Andrea, Cochran, Eddie, Phillip, Malcolm, and Michael face eating a bunch of shipworms, which are actually part of the clam family according to Jeff.

Malcolm and Eddie finish almost simultaneously. Cochran is next. They advance.

Those three must eat balut, duck embryos. Two advance to final round. Cochran wins quickly. It takes some chewing but Malcolm finishes second.

Malcolm vs. Cochran. They have a slab of pig brain. Cochran finishes just ahead of Malcolm. Cochran wins immunity and he’s thrilled.

Post-Challenge

Malcolm tries to get his ducks in a row for that night’s vote. Phillip tells Corrine he wants to split the vote between Eddie and Reynold. Corrine tries to get him to vote for Sherri. Phillip says he wants a “big fish” to go home on the first vote. Phillip’s right — you don’t know what challenges are headed your way and it’s nice to eliminate physical threats when you can.

Corrine talks to Andrea, Dawn, and Cochran about how she wants to vote for Sherri and her annoyance with Phillip. Cochran tells us he doesn’t completely understand why you’d target Sherri first but he’s okay with it. He doesn’t want the Fans to know that there’s cracks in the Favorites alliance.

Corrine talks to Dawn about her feelings about getting rid of Phillip. They count votes and now they have seven (as long as Dawn votes with them). She tells us last time Cochran told her he was going to flip and she didn’t tell anyone. She doesn’t want to repeat that mistake. Well, you could flip and not tell anyone, that’s not repeating the mistake.

Dawn tells Cochran about Corrine’s plan to blindside Phillip. They realize what’s going on. They count votes and realize it’s six. Cochran tells Andrea about Corrine. They think about it. They talk about voting for Corrine. They’ll need Sherri and Erik’s votes.

Andrea tells Phillip about Corrine and he says, laughably, “She’s not thinking about anyone but herself.” Stop the presses. Phillip tells us he’s pleased his core alliance came through for him and clued him in to Corrine’s plan.

Phillip talks to Sherri about voting for Corrine. Sherri tells us she’s willing to do what she has to do to stay in the game but she hates Phillip.

Andrea tells Erik who to vote for via “fixing” the tribe banner and Andrea pointing to Corrine’s name on the banner.

Malcolm discusses voting for Sherri with Erik. Erik tells us he feels as if he doesn’t know what’s going on. He realizes he’s a swing vote but he’s not sure what he’s going to do.

Tribal Council

Corrine essentially announces she’s open to ideas from the Fans about voting a different way.

Cochran says he’d be more worried if she didn’t say she was open to ideas.

Reynold says if you’re in the bottom of the alliance of eight, now is the time to make a move.

Sherri simply says, “The Fans don’t have a shot.”

Reynold says there’s a lot of maneuvering going on that hasn’t bubbled to the surface. Wow, he can’t keep a secret.

Voting!

Sherri, Sherri, Sherri, Sherri, Sherri, Corrine, Corrine, Corrine, Corrine, Corrine, Corrine, Corrine. Corrine is going home.

Bubbling Under

What of Malcolm’s plans? Will he be able to move forward with Phillip? I would expect there to still be some jockeying but not necessarily immediately. They’ll probably try to vote for Reynold and Eddie.

What do you expect to happen in the coming weeks? Let’s hear your Two Cents!

I really enjoyed this episode, from the return of an old eating challenge (I would have balked the minute I saw my basket moving and just told Jeff “I’m out”) and watching Cochran triumph (woohoo), to a good old fashioned blindside.

Loved Malcom smugly having maneuvered having the tribe to name itself after his mother, and loved the smug look being wiped off as the TC votes were read.

Interesting that Dawn has now twice played a “Lady MacBeth” role in the demise of fellow tribemates. First Julia confessed her concerns about Phillip, then Corrinne. Both got whacked as a result of their discretions. Interesting also how Cochran continues to be her go to person, keeping him close at all times, and that no one else has picked up on that, probably because every one is so focused on the more obvious threats. And Cochran continues to be the puppetmaster behind the scenes as well, since it appears that he was the one who pushed everyone to find that needed vote. The two are seemingly running the show, unbeknownst to everyone. Reminds me a bit of the third season of Big Brother, when two completely opposite players (Danielle and Jason) were aligned from Day 1 and pulled all the strings all season.

That’s a great point about Cochran and Dawn. They are in a good position and even more so after last night’s vote.

Phillip should rename Dawn, “The Terminator.” You do NOT cross Dawn, even unintentionally.
