Isn’t it interesting that although Simon Cowell hasn’t been on Idol for three seasons, he still has an effect on the show? This season X-Factor told the audience the ranking of its contestants almost every week.
So after 26 million votes during the first week of voting, Idol did the same thing. The twist was that the Top Three were revealed, but not in which order. But the remaining six singers did find out where they fell. So, something new on Idol. Thanks Simon.
Usually result shows are stuffed with filler, but this show crammed the hour with six live performances. How they cover that much? Hardly any chatter from the judges.
We started with the Jimmy Iovine Show, as he Jimmy said Candice won the night and that the Top Three would be Candice, Kree Harrison and Burnell Taylor. Was he right? Read on.
The first performance was a pre-recorded commercial or group number (both are right). The contestants sang “Shine Your Way” while clips from “The Croods” played on the big screen.
We also heard Bon Jovi sing a serviceable “Because We Can.” Later, Phillip Phillips sang his new single “Gone Gone” with more passion than we ever saw last season.
Then we got the promised Sing Off between the next top guy and girl from last week. The winner of this contest would get to go on the Idol Live tour this summer.
CHARLIE ASKEW sang the original song “Sky Blue Diamond” while accompanying himself (very well) on the piano. If only he had sung this last – he’d still frontrunner. The soaring notes and simple melodies suited his voice well. He gets a standing ovation from all the judges.
AUBREY CLELAND performed “Out Here On My Own.” Her voice seemed thin and she cracked a few notes. She doesn’t give the song much depth, just runs. She gets a standing ovation from Keith, Randy and Mariah.
We will learn the winner next Wednesday after voting online. So we finally got the results of this week’s show.
Lazaro Arbos (4)
Amber Holcomb (5)
Janelle Arthur (6)
Burnell Taylor (7)
Paul Jolley (8)
Curtis Finch, Jr.
Nicki threatened to go home if Curtis went home. Could it be true? Probably not.
Curtis had to sing for the one judges’ save of the season. He repeated “I Believe.” They could not come to a unanimous decision, so he went home.
Do you think the right person left or should the judges’ have used their save? Who are you voting for – Charlie or Aubrey? How do you feel about showing the rankings? Give us your TwoCents…
