How I Met Your Mother
Bad Crazy

Original Air Date: Feb 11, 2013

Caitlin –Senior Staff Writer

You’ll remember Janette from last week’s episode. You might also wonder why Ted would want to keep dating her, from what we saw then. By the end of this week’s episode, though…you’ll really wonder why.

Actually, he agrees pretty quickly on that he needs to break up with her. He manages to do it, too, even though it puts him in fear of his life. But, as you might guess, it’s not as simple as just telling her. That becomes clear when she locks herself in his room.

It becomes even clearer when we learn he didn’t actually break up with her. Or, at least, he didn’t technically say that he wanted to end their relationship. Instead, she somehow got the idea that he was in love with Lily and ended up getting the two of them kicked out of a hockey game. But considering he made out with her both at the game and again in his room, she’s probably not the only one making mistakes in this relationship,

During all of this, Robin is making some progress of her own. She’s never been the best with babies, and has yet to hold Marvin. When Lily leaves her alone with him for a minute, she lets a random woman pick him up to comfort him. Then she lets his stroller roll down the sidewalk. Then she takes him to a strip club. Then she leaves him with said stranger. We learn all this over the next 16 years. Oh, and also, that stranger was Mike Tyson.

Eventually, she does of course manage to hold him. And she falls in love with it big time, at least until Marvin’s diaper needs tending to. Still, I’m surprised the writers didn’t use this as a chance to address her infertility again. And as for Janette? Lily decides that it would be good for Ted to date her for awhile. He agrees, because apparently he needs to watch his life go down in flames for a while. Literally. But that’s a story for another episode.
