Welcome back everyone to the final season of The Office! I hope your summer was delightful. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to see how all this is going to play out and eventually end. It’s been a long and sometimes painful journey. Let’s just jump right in then.
Erin is excited because Andy is coming back from his David Wallace inforced wilderness adventure today. Everyone is talking about their summers. Dwight concocted a new energy drink from beet runoff, oh and he’s not the father of Angela’s baby.
That news makes him puke the beet juice (which is blue for some reason) all over Angela. Kevin had an interesting summer. He ran over a turtle in the parking lot which he saved by gluing it’s shell back together with office detritus. He killed the turtle again but the turtle was dead the whole time anyway so, you know, no biggie.
Jim’s college friend is starting up a sports based business in Philly based on an idea of Jim’s. The friend offered Jim a partnership but moving wasn’t good for their family so they’re settling for the potential billionaire buying them a car if things work out. Boo, Jim and Pam.
Kelly’s moved to Miami (in Ohio) to be with her boyfriend, the doctor. Ryan also moved to Ohio.
As Jim and Pam remove their microphones we hear from someone on the documentary team. Wow! That’s a first. The docu-guy says that now they’re following Jim and Pam to see how they end up and Pam offhandedly remarks that since they have two kids nothing interesting is going to happen for them for a long time. Oooh, hey, you ok? That 2 by foreshadowing is gonna leave a mark.
There are two new guys in the office, Pete and Clark. Pete is classified as “the new Jim”. and the Clark is dubbed “Dwight Jr.” Dwight is cool with that because now that he doesn’t have a real son he’s adopting Clark. It’s not at all weird. Oh wait, yes it is. Dwight Jr asks for some sales leads from Dwight and when that happens Dwight is not so paternally inclined. In fact, now it’s up to Dwight to show up the young upstart. I think you know how this will end.
Ugh, Nellie is still there. Andy tells Nellie that he had a dream on the mountain that Nellie died. Huh, that’s weird, I had the same dream. Andy wants to fire Nellie but Toby tells him he has to have a valid cause. Andy just flat out tells Nellie he’s going to make their work life together miserable. Andy sets up a slack line challenge in the parking lot. Dwight Jr. is surprisingly good at it while Dwight Original Recipe is terrible and flops all over the place. Cheap laughs, folks.
Dwight sets up a trapeze contraption on the roof with a bicycle and cables. He calls Pam up to act as counterweight so he can ride the bike across the cable stretching across the parking lot. Pam intelligently refuses.
Angela gives away her cat, Comstock, to Oscar because the Senator is allergic even though it’s his favorite cat. Good news, though, the Senator can still play with his favorite cat while he’s having dinner at Oscar’s house. How convenient.
After work, Jim makes a call to his Philly friend and declares himself “all in”. He has not consulted Pam about this.
We wrap up with everyone throwing their trash at Nellie. I am for this.
Ok, so we lost Robert, Kelly, and Ryan. I’m ok with this. I wish we’d lost Nellie but as long as everyone keeps throwing trash at her, I’m good. I wasn’t especially impressed with the majority of the episode but that’s pretty standard lately. I’m interested to see how Pam handles the news that they’ll be moving to Philadelphia. I suspect she will not take it well at first but will settle in eventually. I kind of love Andy being a total jerk to Nellie. The new guys? Eh, I could take them or leave them, honestly. Your two cents? Leave it in a comment!
