Last week’s episode ended with a shocking moment that nobody, saw coming, but lots of people had opinions about the event. This week we deal with the aftermath of the event, kind of, and have lots of (fake) blood spilled.

Can you believe that there is only one episode left? They’re calling it the spring finale, since it will air on the first day of spring, but I’m really thinking it’s more of a winter finale. But it’s only semantics, because what all we really want to know is… WILL BAY FIND OUT THE TRUTH?

So, yes, confirmation was pretty quickly established, Emmett and Simone did indeed do “the deed”. Both are appropriately shamed by their actions and admit it was a mistake. They’re almost busted by Daphne at the hotel, but manage to get away with no obvious witnesses. Returning home, the first thing Emmett does is apologize to Bay for being so angry with her. She’s a little confused by his about-face, but agrees to an intimate birthday dinner, not wanting to tempt fates.

Bay and Daphne, who are bonding more and more like sisters every episode, discuss Emmett’s new mood and Daphne casually mentions that the two wrote a deaf-horror movie script, “Dawn of the Deaf”, together. Recruiting all of their friends and family, the girls decide to produce the movie as a birthday present for Emmett.

Daphne continues to work with Wilke on sign language, this time for his part in the movie. Although he’s probably still not as eager as she’d like , he does take the time to learn some signs for the part. It’s actually very informative for hearing viewers, as we learn about facial expressions (raised eyebrows for a question) and phrasing (main topic word is signed first).

The movie shoot, filmed on the Kennish property, looks pretty nifty for something thrown together in a week. Regina seems a little taken aback by the money being spent, with props, make-up, wind, and smoke machines. Daphne is also a little reserved, but it’s clear she’s noticing little things around the house that reflect the childhood she didn’t have, such as Bay and Toby’s handprints in a garden stone. Filming is set to begin, but Toby can’t figure out how to work the borrowed (from Simone/Buckner) video equipment, so Simone is brought in to shoot the movie. Emmett and Simone play off barely knowing each other, but he texts her to leave (since she doesn’t know sign). I wonder when the two exchanged phone numbers and why they programmed each other in their cells since they’re “not supposed to know each other”?
For all of his faults, Wilke is clearly the most perceptive teen on the show. He is surprised when he finds out Toby didn’t go to the tournament, having heard that Simone had someone in her room. His suspicions are already on alert, and then they are definitively confirmed when he accidentally picks up Simone’s phone. It seems she and Emmett, beyond his request to for her to leave (which she did try), continued texting admitting their mistake and desire to keep it a secret. Wilke confronts Simone, who begs for his silence. He’s torn, since Toby is his best friend and Bay is clearly like a sister. But for the time being, he keeps his mouth shut.

Emmett is having a hard time keeping his guilt a secret. After Bay, regarding his being a zombie for the film, jokes about possibly looking dumb for not figuring it out, he goes to collect himself. Melody, who became super-mom this week and admitted her err in judgment about Bay, finds him. He initially snaps at her, but apologizes. Without saying who, he admits to his mom that he made a mistake with another girl and he’s upset that he’s ruined everything with Bay. Melody, pretty calmly, tells him he has to live with it, but wonders if Bay really has to. As someone who was probably cheated on, she’s coming for her heart, wondering if telling Bay will actually help anything.

At the end of the shoot, after Bay has killed Zombie Emmett, they all celebrate with a birthday cake for our troubled teen. He and Bay take a drive, stopping to smooch, but Emmett can’t get his transgression out of his mind. When he pulls away, Bay, somewhat angrily, reminds him that they’ve made it through the deaf/hearing thing, Ty, the custody battle, and declaring their love, so now he has to decide if he’s really with her. Forsaking his chance to come clean, Emmett opts to keep his secret, declaring he is with Bay. You just know this will blow up… soon. Those two really haven’t ever had a chance to be a happy couple, have they?

Elsewhere, we had some smaller story arcs this week. Daphne admitted to Regina that it’s not a lack of money to live like the Kennish family that bothers her, it’s learning and wondering about the childhood she might have had. She still wonders why Regina never came clean about the switch when she was younger. Regina admits she (Regina) wasn’t sure that she could handle it. The two form new memories with a late night swim in the Kennish pool.

Kathryn gets an advance copy of Sarah Lazar’s first chapter of her competing book about the switch. She’s horrified to find mention of a long-ago miscarriage in there. She rails at John for sharing private details of their lives with Sarah and we find out the John and Sarah have a past history of talks, which he claimed were about baseball. Kathryn clearly believes that there was more than intimate conversation going on (she mentions a press photo) and John has clearly been denying this for a long time. There’s friction between the two, as he challenges her to trust him. I’m still wondering if there’s more to the story.

I’m not sure if it was Kathryn confiding about her Sarah suspicions or because she’s leery of a stranger’s take on the events, but Regina finally agrees to be part of Kathryn’s book. The two also rummage through Angelo’s old storage locker, finding photos of him with another woman (the one from Chicago?), an abandoned cell phone, and skis.

Does anyone else wish the adult plots were as compelling as the teen ones? Bay has clearly become the lead of the show, but I am finding myself wishing Daphne had some sort of arc that wasn’t resolved in a single episode (like tonight or last week’s basketball tournament). I think we need to amp up the Daphne/Wilke relationship, or give her something new that has more far reaching drama. Your thoughts?

Thanks for the update. My DVR cut off the last minute of the show. I agree Daphne needs a more compelling storyline. I was surprised that there wasn’t more talk about the tournament. From a sports angle, what Simone did at the end of the game looked intentional. I thought for sure someone (preferably Daphne) would have come up to her and say I know you threw the game to let Charlton win. Simone would have responded with that’s how much your (Daphne) friendship means to me. All in all, still a good show. But I expect fireworks for the next episode.

I didn’t think of it as Simone throwing the game, I thought of it more as a frustrated, cheap shot, flagrant foul.

Which is why Simone was so bummed later on. She knew she cost her team the game.

I like the adult story lines. Katheryn was a real b**** last nite though. It seems that emmet has fallen in love with Simone. That’s my take on the flashback he had when he was with Bey. I think the right thing is for him to break up with Bey but then I would miss him every week. Bey would need a pretty interesting boyfriend to replace him.

I think my problem with the adult story lines (and I am an adult, not a teen) is that there story lines seem to drag out much longer and slower without the same level of payoff. The lawsuit plot has been trudging along since last summer and really needs a spark to ignite it, or at the very least, a courtroom scene.

I thought Kathryn was deliciously frosty with John. Where there’s smoke there’s usually fire, and I think there must be some basis to her concerns. A photo of him and a woman talking, not so much… A woman who he has indepth conversations with, shares intimate details of his life with… and who now knows enough to write her own book version of his life… John is hiding *something, *I just don’t know what yet.

I think Emmett’s flashbacks to Simone were guilt-based. I am near-certain he does not have feeling for Simone.

I was hoping for the tryst to blow up in everyone’s face. Guess we have to wait till the spring finale for this to happen!

Making the zombie movie Daphne and Emmett had written a script of was a unique/cool idea for a birthday present! The little clips of it on the show looked so cool that I found myself wishing that they had actually filmed a movie, and ABC Family could sell even a 30 minute Dawn of the Deaf movie on DVD for SaB viewers!
I’m rally looking forward to next week’s episode because I saw it is about the prom. I love when shows do a prom episode (it always looks so beautiful with everyone dressed up) and a major school event like a prom often has drama associated with it or a big reveal (I’m guessing something about Emmett and Simone will be said).
I agree with your last question about the parent storylines not being as compelling as the teen ones. They’re ok, but I’ve never been as interested in the outcome of the adult-dramas on this show as I have been with things with Bay and Daphne!
