Tonight’s episode should really be called “The Rebound Bro”. It would be a far more accurate representation of the main developing relationship. Specifically, Ted and Barney’s. You know you want it.
Meanwhile, Lily and Marshall look to make a major change in their lives as parenthood approaches and Robin yells a lot about that change, but doesn’t do a whole lot else. Or, at least, we think she doesn’t…
The parents-to-be are considering what to do with their new Long Island house. Personally, I like the option of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition-style destruction, but they probably actually want to live there. Ted and Barney also decide to make some alterations in their own lives, but in their case, that means adopting a baby together without being gay (*insert necessary Neil Patrick Harris joke here*) and without giving up women.
For reasons we’ll learn later, Robin doesn’t take issue with this insanity, does with Lily and Marshall. She tries to convince them that their apartment is great. Seeing as she knocks over every lamp they own in the process, it doesn’t really work. They decide to turn to the universe for answers and are presented with a guy who wants to buy their apartment- not the house they’re selling. And bro parenting is apparently still a good idea when Ted and Barney are sober.
The two put their plan into action and start looking at baby names and adoption agencies. Soon enough, they start arguing over work and the best place to raise a kid. Soon after that, Ted realizes that Barney would probably put their child’s life in danger. Meanwhile, Robin’s tactics move from the use of black market organs to outright screaming and finally to locking her self in the house bathroom- one of three. Ted is happy that he avoided the potential disaster of a bad decision. And then Barney shows up with a baby.
The question of where the child came from is left hanging, but that doesn’t deter the single guys from taking advantage of the attention she gets from women. They take her to Marshall and Lily and we eventually learn she belongs to James and his husband, in for Thanksgiving. Marshall finds Robin in her hiding place to offer her some cheese and suggest she’s upset about more than the potential move. Like what? Like her announcement to Barney, who visits her later, that she’s pregnant.
Now, there are two important questions (besides “WHAT?!?!”) to ask here. First, is Robin actually pregnant? Despite all the shock value of this ending, I think there’s a 50/50 chance she’s not. But for purposes of speculation, let’s say she is really knocked up. Then, the obvious- who is the baby’s father? Statistically, there’s a much higher chance it’s Kevin rather than Barney. But this is television, where statistics don’t matter.
Otherwise, I really enjoyed this episode. We got to see James, Ted and Barney were idiots but in a very fun way, Lily and Marshall are starting to really think like parents, and Robin’s antics were hilarious if you ignore the actual cause behind them. Plus, the guest appearance by Ernie Hudson will at least help distract us from all this by getting the “Ghostbusters” theme stuck in our heads.

This episode was boring and made no sense. Until Robin’s announcement.
Barney’s whole “I want to be a father…” thing was out of left field. Then BAM! Robin’s having a baby??? All the pieces of the puzzle fit perfectly. 🙂
I really didn’t see that coming until Barney knocked on the bathroom window and joined her. I was thinking, “Hmm, I wonder – ” right as she told Barney the news. I’ve already done a false positive so I doubt they’d do it again. I say it is legit but I could always be wrong, you never know with this show!
Boy, I hope it is Barney’s. Sheesh, I barely was barely able to get my jaw back off the floor a few weeks ago with the kiss and just when I’ve picked it up some it fell through the floor!
Nooooo, I hate Barney & Robin together!! Barney should be with Nora (the exact opposite from him) or that beautiful blonde bombshell who’s joining the cast, Becki Newton! And Robin..well I don’t really care who Robin actually ends up with, she’s lame. She was kinda pretty at first but now she starts to look more&more like her doppelganger, lesbian Robin. PLUS she was such a bitch last week, she doesn’t deserve Barney.
I loved the part with Ted and Barney wanting to be fathers. And the final minutes… wow.
When Robin said she was pregnant, my mouth just fell open. I don’t think it’s Kevin’s since I believe he’s done with his run on the show. Which would leave Barney. I like Robin and Barney together. Although, I do have to agree with sempreviva above that she has not been looking that great lately, especially with that haircut.
