Jess meets a new boy. Another teacher at her school, Paul (Justin Long), who she ill advisedly invites to Thanksgiving dinner at her house. She knows nothing about cooking, and apparently also lacks common sense on how to thaw a turkey, but we’ll add that to her quirkiness. She’s overwhelmed with like for this guy, so this is sure to be entertaining.
It gets better when he arrives, and does a second verse to her little impromptu song. Which prompts to Nick to say “Oh my god, there’s two of them.” Perfection.
Paul is sweet, but the guys are reluctant to let him in. They want to watch football and chill, but he is too much like Jess for them to relax. It’s extra awkward because Paul just lost his grandmother who he was very close to. They put the turkey in the dryer to thaw it, but then it explodes. Paul is actually really nice, but Nick isn’t a big fan. He and Jess get into a shouting match outside the neighbors door (where they’ve relocated their dinner due to the smoking turkey). Jess is REALLY into Paul, and describes what she wants to do with him in the bedroom. But of course, everyone can hear them. Awkward.
Again, Paul is kind of cool. Nick is being a jerk, and Paul calls him on it. Jess and Paul are shockingly hitting it off, okay maybe not shockingly, but still. Just when things are recovering, he discovers the dead neighbor. Poor guy is in shock, where everyone else seems kind of blase. So that’s the end of that. Except he reappears with his violin at the Black Friday line up, and everyone is happy. At least for now.

I really liked this episode. Justin Long really fit in well with the cast. I though Schmidt’s OCD in the kitchen was awesome. And the fact that they made reference to the “douchbag jar” was great (even if it was throw away line).
