Earlier this season, the character of Charlotte King endured one of the most horrific attacks ever seen on network television. It was a harrowing experience with a slow, painful, and realistic recovery process that kept viewers completely immersed in her journey. And tonight we were invited to see her and Cooper cement their love with a beautiful outdoor wedding. We’ve embraced this couple through their relationship (and missteps), and as viewers, we’re more than happy to wish them well on their new life together.
The only hitch? Someone forgot to tell their parents and friends that a wedding is a happy occasion.
We quickly learn that Sam and Addison are officially broken up. Based on last week’s comments section, there are going to be some unhappy viewers over this decision. But the two agree to be friends and keep the break-up under wraps until after the wedding. Addison keeps the promise for about three seconds before telling a returned-from-Africa Naomi, hoping the news will repair the rift in their friendship. It doesn’t, but what it does do is drive a further wedge in Sam and Addison’s attempt being “just friends.” The two ridiculously compare who sacrificed more to be in the relationship in the first place. And, sorry Addison, Sam’s daughter/grandchild relationship trumps your sadness about your BFF being mad at you.
We only get one patient of the week, an elderly woman name Marion who is really depressed. Naomi, Sheldon, Amelia, and (the returning stalker) Fife argue over whether she should have therapy (Naomi, Sheldon) or an anterior cingulotomy (Amelia, Fife), which would be using a gamma ray to cut the sad out of her brain. Fife ends up visiting Marion and finding out she was grieving for her friend who died. It turns out her friend loved her, but out of obligation to her dead husband, she never told him she loved him back. This oh-so subtle message resonates with Naomi who kisses Fife.
Violet has a lawyer who probably has a name. But to me, it’s Jesse Vasquez (Mark Espinoza) from 90210 (original flavor) who impregnated Ahhhhndrea Zuckerman. So I’m calling him Jesse Vasquez from here on out, OK? He warns that this is serious business, but Violet doesn’t seem to really get it until the medical board starts investigating the whole practice for their habit of discussing cases over coffee. Violet still defends her book as a good therapeutic tool, but starts to doubt if she may have crossed the line. While the board reviews their findings, which include interviews with a protective Pete and an unsympathetic/cold Addison and seized practice records, Violet apologizes to the group, saying she’s just proud of her friends and colleagues and how they rely on each other.
I think I’m kind of over Violet at this point. Skipping Cooper’s rehearsal dinner to wallow in self-pity was pretty much the last straw. We know she’s been through a lot (as she constantly reminds us), but so has Charlotte and seeing their behaviors side by side does not do Violet any favors.
Coop and Charlotte’s parents come into town for the wedding and do not mesh well. Charlotte’s mom isn’t nearly as Southern Belle as I expected (her hair was pretty flat), but the dress thing was irrational. I don’t care if every bride in the family has worn it for 100 years, you do not ask your daughter to wear the same Laura Ingall-style dress to her second wedding that she wore at her first wedding!
Coop’s parents are too busy gushing over Violet and recalling every time he vented over Charlotte to take the time to get to know their son’s fiancé. At lunch at Canter’s Deli (I’ve been there!), they list all of her past transgressions that he told them. Even though he and Charlotte have worked it all out, they’re pretty stuck in their mindset. Charlotte is a bit horrified to realize Coop shares everything with his parents. But that horror is not match for when their parents corner them at the rehearsal dinner and say they think they’re too different to get married.
Well, our independent and fiery couple has had enough. Their friends are miserable , their parents are unsupportive, so they do the logical thing, bail on the fancy wedding, and send this text: “Gone to Vegas. Enjoy the food. Don’t wait up.” With Chrisette Michele’s “Love Is You” as a soundtrack for the moment, we get to see a blissful Coop and Charlotte elope and become Dr. and Dr. Freedman. Although I’d be willing to bet Charlotte keeps her own name.
So a few lingering questions… Was Amelia’s sip/spit-out of the champagne foreshadowing of a relapse/storyline, or just a random thing? Are you happy Naomi and Fife are together? Are you sick of Violet? And how do you feel about the end of AddiSam?

It was about time that AddiSam was put to rest, those two want different things in life, and they have to part ways and i find it immature that Addison ran to Naomi to “get her bestfriend back” now that thereis no more addisam between them… I find that horrible. Sam isn’t an angel, but he is not that immature!
All i wish is that they keep those two apart for a while, let them be good co-worker, let them have some form of residual friendship, but please find them other love interest (Benjamin Brat’s character for Addison…) and bring back Vanessa from S3 or Sonia from S2 or bring someone new portrayed by reginal hall or anika noni rose or whoever is cute, sexy & grorgeous… to be Sam’s new girlfriend who is not bilogicaly pressured to have a baby like right now
And please please PP Gods, No AddiSam baby in season finale’s cliffhanger, there should be no unresolved issues between Sam & Addi, i want them as great wo-workers and that’s it…
I think AddiSam was never a god couple. From the first time Addie asked Sam if he was ready to start a family with her and he said he wasn’t sure. She should have gotten out. She has no more time to waste in a slow relationship. She is a woman that knows what she wants and she wants it now. Besides, maybe it was just me but I thought Sam was never over Naomi, not from the start, they shared a lot of comfort-sex-sessions that sure, are familiar because they were married a long time, but are not normal because the were supposed to be o-v-e-r.
Now about Charlotte and Cooper, I looooooooved that they got married in their own terms. They seemed like a married couple to me since the beginning of this season; the understanding, the love and the friendship they have now, it’s amazing. To me they are the strongest couple in that series. They are rock-solid now. And after all they just wanted to make official to the world what is already real to them. Congrats on the newlyweds. They deserve it.
I loved Addisam last season but this season Sam has suddenly turned into this cold jerk who doesnt seem to have any feelings for Addie. It was about time she ended it and not just because of the baby issue. And i want Addie to find out about Sam/Naomi kiss and Sam trying to pursue it…
What sacrificies or adjustments did Sam, Maya and Olivia do? Sam was the one pursuing Addie all the time, she kept saying no over and over and over again! I loved the little speech Addison gave him.
I have no idea why would Addie tell Naomi, that was plain stupid writing i think.
As for Naomi, i just cant wait for her to leave! She is the most annoying character ever… ever since Maya storylines started i have no idea what is wrong with her. and now we are supposed to believe that she is this great mum and granny… and everybody should feel sorry for her? she ran from fife to william in a second, kissed sam as soon as Addison was out of town and when addie asked about it gave the most stupid lecture ever!!! pleaseeeeee! just go already!!!
Violet is not even worth the time to think about her. very selfish and stupid, cant understand why everybody has to risk loosing the practice just because she wanted to write a book about their lives!! btw, addie never got a say about Violet publishing things about her!
Pete`s storylines have been boring ever since him and Addie broke up.
Addie has been almost missing most of the last episodes. No real storylines and just waiting for the relationship with sam to be over with finally. how long is it possible to drag it along?
i just cant figure out why waste friendships and two seasons if the relationship ends like this???
I love Charlotte and Cooper, they are my next favourite characters after Addison. Sheldon and Amelia I also love, i hope they get more storylines and I want to see them continuing to be good friends to Addy!
Last few episodes have actually been disappointments for me. Just give addie a baby and let her be happy for a change!!! and storylines for Amelia and Sheldon.
Good review. I agrred with everything you said aout Violet.
You made some good points that I didn’t think of while watching like Sams daughter/granddaughter relationship trumps her losing her BFF. I am so over Addisam.
Shows how selfish they all are that they couldn’t put their feelings aside for Charlotte and Coopers wedding day.
I think I would have liked the eloping better if they chose a different song. I never heard that song before and didn’t care for it. Since there were no words the music made the moment and I didn’t like the song.
I’m happy that Addie and Sam finaly broke up and Naomi and Fife get together. I think that the thing with Amelia is not going to be just these
I am over Violet. On the verge of taking this show off my must watch Thursday nights. Her character needs to be killed off. Every week, whine, whine, whine. (me, me, me) I can’t stand it.
Can’t they come up with a better story line for her? Boooooooooooooooring.
I love this storyline of judging all the characters’ decisions over the years. In a medical drama with tons of moral conflicts is great to “watch the watchers” some time.
I’m just fine with Violet. She’s not only suffered a lot but now all of them are being professionally questioned for her fault. So it wasn’t a comfortable situation.
Not only that, but also Coop’s parents are much interested in her than in Charlotte…so yeah, I can understand why she would want to skip that dinner.
Addison said she only was there because it was in her house(poor Amelia had prepared everything and nobody was having a good time…).
I loved the episode. It’s a great plot for the finale and Cooper & Charlotte wedding was all you would expect from them.
The old woman story was very touching.
