Some people might have been impatiently awaiting ‘the Royal Wedding’ of the year, but I personally couldn’t wait for ‘the White Wedding’. Let’s be honest here: it wouldn’t be Grey’s Anatomy if it didn’t have a portion of drama in it as well. That is why we watch this show after all, because of all the torture Shonda and her team of writers send our way. If that wasn’t what we liked, we wouldn’t continue watching it for seven seasons and counting.

So I really expected that something would go wrong to complicate things… But we had all seen the wedding pictures before the episode aired, so there was no real reason to doubt the outcome of this wedding.

Arizona’s parents were exactly the way I imagined them. Her mom was the caring, loving type. Her dad (THE Colonel), with his military time schedule for the big day and his military dress uniform, was exactly the way I thought he would be. Right down to the way he brushed off Arizona’s wish to remember her brother during the ceremony.

I was really disappointed in Callie’s mom. Somehow (and maybe it’s just me) I always suspected that it was Callie’s dad who took the upper hand in making the decisions regarding their daughters sexual preference. Probably because he came to Callie with that priest the first time we saw him. I thought that he told his wife and other daughter to break contact with Callie when he told her she was no longer his daughter. But now we know that his wife is actually worse. I really did not expect that and I thought that it was strange that Callie’s sister wasn’t at the wedding.

Being bisexual myself, I understand that there are always going to be people who have a problem with sexual preference. But how can someone be there, in their home, sitting at their table, watching these two amazing women who have been through so much together and who are so in love with each other… and deny their love. Claim that it is wrong? I don’t get that, especially if one of them is your daughter. Callie’s mom should have been able to see how happy she is with Arizona. Instead, Sofia she tells her that it is wrong and that Callie will go to hell for marrying and loving a woman and having a bastard child. I was extremely disappointed that her parents weren’t there at the actual wedding, but I am glad that her father got his act together just in time for the father-daughter dance. I also really liked Mark’s comment about him being a dad. He’s been her rock in a very appropriate and grown up way.

After a lot of bumps in the road Callie and Arizona are married, they have a beautiful daughter, and even Arizona and Mark seem to be getting along really well. I loved how Mark was the one that gave Arizona a shoulder to cry on when she was feeling down because her brother wasn’t there at her wedding. We needed to see that. To erase that horrible image of Mark telling Arizona that she is ‘nothing’.

Meanwhile at SGMW, Cristina and Teddy are still not really talking to each other. Teddy wants Cristina to learn a lesson the hard way, and Cristina only wants to say ‘sorry’ so she can get in on a once in a lifetime surgery of one of Alex’s African kids. But Teddy does not accept her lame attempts at saying sorry and chooses April to help her while Cristina is asked to suction. You can literally see her fuming behind her surgical mask.

Avery is working with Webber (or rather working for Webber) on his trail which at this point is being performed on mice. He hates it and complains about it… until he finds some promising results and informs Webber of them. He praises Avery for his find and brags about it to several other people.

Derek has fallen in love. Hold your horses! He’s not cheating or anything like that. No, he has fallen in love with this really cute little baby; one of Alex’s African children, an orphan. According to the woman who came to the US with the baby, she’s been crying ever since they got her at the orphanage. However when Derek picks her up she settles down and that is when a plan starts to form in his head. He pages Meredith to the room and she of course assumes that he needs her for a medical reason, Then he hands her this completely content smiling baby. He tells her that he thinks that they should adopt the little girl and who can resist that cute smile. After all, Derek did promised Meredith that they would have a baby. They start filling out a pile of paperwork and one of the questions asked if they are married. Since a post-it wedding is still not legal in the US they decide to make their marriage official and they go to the town hall to sign the appropriate paperwork. They never make it to the ‘white wedding’ because they are so consumed by the little girl that might be theirs.

One episode covering the MerDer and Calzona wedding? What more can we ask for? Granted, MerDer fans will probably say that they wanted a ‘white wedding’ for them instead of the Calzona wedding. Understandably so because twice they have been robbed of a real wedding for the person the show should actually be about. I can understand if some fans didn’t like the fact that Callie and Arizona got the big wedding while Meredith and Derek just signed a piece of paper. They didn’t even exchange rings! But I think that it was also important to show a lesbian wedding on television because gay marriage should be allowed. A wedding should be about two people who love each other and not about their gender, race, or religion for that matter.

On that note, I want to end this review. I’m looking forward to read your feedback on the episode.
