Tonight we are blessed with the guest presence of Sean “Puffy” Combs as an undercover NYPD cop who finally returns to his family, his son doesn’t even recognize him. He’s been gone for 2 years. He’s got protection with him, so clearly whatever he’s doing is a big deal. He’s close to closing in on the big bad, and needs a little bit more time away to finish the job.
In the middle of the night, he’s out on the beach when something catches his attention. His guards are down and his wife is dead. The mob that he’s been after has attacked him, a fire fight happens and Reggie (Combs) nails a couple of them, but they also shoot him in the gut.
McGarrett arrives home after his morning surf with his broken arm wrapped in plastic. Kamekona is in his house cooking him breakfast, apparently he lost a bet. Why would anyone bet against Steve on anything ever? Anyhow, Kamekona has to serve as Steve’s personal chef for the week, except that all he’s going to cook is SPAM, and Steve is not a fan. Then he notices another mystery envelope returning another piece of his father’s toolbox. Whoever this mystery mind game player is they are seriously twisted. Plus they need a sinister bad guy name so I can figure out how to refer to him (or her).
Then McG gets the call and the team is off to Reggie’s house to check it out. Reggie looks dead on the lawn, and Chin goes in the house to find the boy. One of the guards and the wife is dead, but the other guard has a pulse, and the kid is fine hiding out in a closet. Steve carries him out, trying to not let him see the massacre that happened. Five-O finds FBI ID on the guards and are super confused about what’s going on when another FBI agent shows up, Marsh. They are organized crime unit guys, and Cannon is the bad guy mark. The FBI lady says she’s taking over the case, which of course Steve is not going to let her do. And since Five-O is awesome they’re going to figure it out before the FBI does.
At the hospital, Reggie is a hostile witness. Everybody knows Cannon is behind the hit, but he’s clearly a hard guy to get to as are most guys at the top of the organized crime pyramid. Or at least that’s what I’ve learned from television. At the crime scene, Kono and Danno are up to their usual tricks. Kono gets to impress Danny first by pointing out a bunch of cameras in the area meant to ward off poachers (or something) and then when he goes to call the park service to get the footage, Kono shimmies up the palm tree and snags the camera herself. Very impressive.
HQ turns up a little evidence, they can see the truck and the shooters but not very well, and the shoe tread at the scene isn’t very useful either. Chin tells them that the bullets used are the same as ones used in New York for crimes that the FBI is trying to link to Cannon. Steve and Danny go to Cannon’s compound, the guards there tell them to go away but Steve revs the engine and puts both hands on the wheel. Danny now has to prayer (this makes me grin) and Steve busts through the gate. They confront Cannon who’s having lunch with his son. Steve and Danny want to talk to Cannon, who tells his son to go inside. Since the son is a civilian, they want him to know what a bad guy his father is. The son says “Don’t try to tell me who my father is, he’s my father.” To which Danny replies “That’s deep.” I have to pause until I stop laughing, I love Scott Caan! Cannon is a jerk and has no remorse about the attack on Reggie’s family. He denies everything, but Steve snags his shoes and all of his guards shoes. More work for Kono! Steve and Danny go to the hospital to have Reggie help ID Cannon’s associates but he’s gone.
Reggie is apparently Jason Bourne. At the house he’s subdued the guards, changed and grabbed new ID and gun, stolen the police car and deactivated the lo-jack. Kono gets the hard job of talking to the son and trying to get an ID on the shooters. The kid is a wreck. Danny and Steve are trying to figure out where Reggie might be going, the obvious choice being Cannon and the shooters. Chin figures out that Agent Marsh is likely the leak to Cannon, since she was absent the night of the shooting. It would also explain why she didn’t want Five-O involved in the investigation. In a dark basement, Steve interrogates Marsh. He’s beyond convinced that she’s the leak. It seems as though she isn’t the leak just a bad agent. Reggie is still on the hunt, and they track him to one of the shooters houses where the shooter is already dead. What they can’t figure out is why Cannon hired local, then Reggie calls Steve. Tells him that he didn’t kill the killer, that he was already dead, but he won’t stop until he finds the leak. Steve and Danny figure out that Reggie has a police radio with him, and they set up a trap for him using it. Chin and Kono get to make the arrest.
In a surprise twist, Reggie insists that Cannon didn’t kill his wife, despite the use of the same kind of bullets and motive. Weird. In the dark interrogation basement Reggie holds to his story. Ballistics confirms, so now Reggie is at HQ showing McG why he thinks one of his other agents is behind it. The injured agent, so everyone confronts him and everyone is pissed. The leak gives up the name of the other shooter and Reggie and McG go after him. Yay chase scene. The get the guy who says that Cannon’s son ordered the hit. Cannon Sr. had no clue and it turns out his son was trying to set him up so he could take over the empire.
All is well mostly. I don’t really understand how that many people from New York have family in Hawaii, but okay. I’m glad they kept Steve’s arm broken, and that he didn’t let it slow him down at all. Gosh this show is good! Do you agree? Leave your TwoCents here!

I didn’t love Puffy in this. His acting always seems forced. You can tell he’s acting.
What’s the deal with the broken arm? Is it really broken?
Scott Caan rocked it again. I loved his line “Wow, that’s deep” to some awful line someone else had.
He broke the arm in the previous episode while scaling down a cliff to get to a dead body. It was a nice bit of continuity that I wasn’t expecting.
The female FBI agent? Dr. Faye Miller from season 4 of Mad Men 🙂
Yeah, I was curious if the actor really broke his arm – like Julia did on Parenthood, and they had to write it in.
According to @danieldaekim during his live tweeting of the last episode, Alex O’Laughlin didn’t actually break his arm. I do appreciate the continuity as well, especially with the writing on the cast and everything.
Thanks Rach. I used your info in the podcast. We spotlighted Hawaii Five-O! https://thetwocentscorp.wordpress.com/2011/04/21/kpontv-podcast-episode-3-%e2%80%93-april-20-2011/
I already can’t believe that a) Selita Ebanks plays Diddy’s wife, even for a few minutes on screen, and b) That the kid is nine years old 😛
