Poor Alicia. She hardly had anything to do in this episode. Instead we got Eli and Diane in what could have been a Valentine’s Day special (but not with each other – eewwww).
We know the minute we see Kurt McVeigh, the ballistics experts that Diane is nuts about, that Diane isn’t going to be able to concentrate. Boy howdy, she can’t even concentrate when he’s outside her office. In fact, these two get quite steamy. Not the way that you normally think of cool, calculated Diane, huh?
Kurt’s got a problem. He testified in the trial of cop killer Pablo Beltran, but Pablo’s lawyer found misconduct by the DNA lab and now he’s free. So Pablo sues Kurt for $36 million and if he wins, Kurt’s reputation is shot too. So Kurt, naturally, runs to Diane. Diane suggests he say that he made a mistake, but Kurt is not going to. So they settle that he has “80 percent accuracy.”
Then it’s discovered that the bullet fragment Kurt based his whole analysis on came from another crime in that area. Rut-roh! But it’s Kalinda to the rescue again. She notices that the tape the DA’s office has given her is missing a few frames and determines that when the digital file was compressed, frames were left out. Getting the original, she figures out a ricochet happened¬ (not a previous crime) and Kurt’s cleared.
Oh yeah, Alicia helps Diane some.
But now Kurt wants to run away with his lady love to Costa Rica or part ways. Why do TV shows always use this kind of ultimatum to get rid of a reoccurring guest star? Of course Diane is in the middle of the power struggle at work and can’t go. Doesn’t Kurt see that she thrives on her work? Maybe it’s best that she refuses his runaway plan.
Eli ends up having a romantic quandary of his own. First off, wasn’t his 16-year-old daughter great? She brought out a whole other side to him. Who would have thought a shark could be paternal?
The campaign discovers that rival Wendy Scott-Carr had an illegal immigrant as a nanny – just the kind of ammo that sinks political adversaries. So he does some investigating by pretending to need a nanny for his two fake young children and that nanny turns out to be none other than America Ferrera (no longer needing to look ugly for Ugly Betty). She’s charming, trying to get a college education and Eli is rather smitten by her spunk.
So he asks her out, never telling her who he really is. But then the daughter comes by and the cat charges out of the bag. But really, the relationship-sinking age difference is mentioned way before identities are unveiled. Eventually Eli gives in to his politically-imbued soul and discloses the info, which gets the nanny deported. Ah, so much for romance.
Did you think Eli too old for the nanny? Is Kurt Diane’s soul mate? Did you miss seeing more Alicia? Give us your TwoCents…

If more Alicia meant more Grace, I’m fine with how little there was.
I don’t think I’ve ever hated two tv kids more than the Florrick spawn. I don’t know what those writers are thinking with those two.
I’m at a loss as to how a pair of intelligent people are able to create such moronic, irritating spawn. They’re supposed to be teenagers but they’re written like they have the minds of 6 year olds.
Ideal storyline? Boarding school until the series ends.
I concur with Aiden – those kids are not very likeable at all. They annoy me to no end.
