What happens when your mother your mother who never showed love for you until the last moments you had with her kills herself? If you’re a Forbes-Montgomery, you lie. If you’re Addison, you apparently start acting like Bizzy.
When it was time to head back to lay her mother to rest (and Susan), Addison turns cold and icy, just like Bizzy, ordering around the men on the plane to load her luggage and telling Sam she doesn’t need him. But she has the best of friends, they won’t let her go through it alone. So what do they do? They hop on a plane and land on her front door, which I’m sure will go over just great with the grieving Addison, the Captain and Archer.
(Also, at the very very end, there’s a spoiler for you, if you choose to read it!)
Once all together, everyone has something going on.
Archer and Naomi rekindle their previous fling. At first, Naomi pulls away from it but it’s only natural that they come together. He’s grieving and she feels like she can’t control anything. It’s nice to hear Naomi admit she has lost control of her life (and sets up her exit in the coming weeks) and I’ll take an Archer kiss whenever I can get it. Man, I miss Grant Show.
The Captain is less-than-gentlemanly to Pete about Violet. He could care less that Violet is married (remember – they had a little rendezvous). Pete tries to keep his cool knowing the Captain is grieving, but finally he goes too far and they scuffle, leading to them bonding while Pete stitches him up. Winds up he was just lonely. He assumed with Susan gone, Bizzy would come back to him. But, she didn’t. He’s alone again.
The real damage is with Addison, who is as cold as ice, or as Sam put it, “It was like Addison was taken over by the ghost of her cold and waspy mother.” For starters, she is lying about how her mother died. First she says it was an aneurysm in her sleep then slips and says it was a heart attack. Charlotte finally confronts Addison because she knows the truth (being the hospital administrator, she saw the death certificate). She eventually tells Archer, who is also stone cold (does anyone in that family have any emotions? Jeez.). When meeting with the funeral director, Bizzy has planned everything, even updating her address book with him every year to make sure the right people are invited. And she wants only one eulogy – to be done by Addison. What will she say? She’s in a daze and rattles off stats about Bizzy’s charity work and her swim record (which was recently broken). Stone cold, no emotion. Finally, after the funeral, Sam breaks Addison down. Thank goodness! I couldn’t take cold Addison. Before heading to the cemetery, Addison puts Susan’s urn in Bizzy’s coffin so they can be buried together. At the cemetery, finally knowing the truth, Archer completely breaks down and is comforted by Naomi as Addison looks on. Man, heart-BREAKING.
In other parts of our Private Practice world, Sheldon and Violet have stayed back in LA to take care of a couple who are on different ends of a battle. The husband is in jail, ready to be executed for murder while the wife is trying to save his life. Sheldon is working with the husband and Violet with the wife. During a visit, the husband admits to the murder and asks Sheldon to go with Violet to tell his wife. Violet thinks this will kill the wife so she feels out the situation first. The husband makes a plea and begs them to help him tell her. Right now she hates the world and he wants his wife and son to hate him instead after he’s gone. Finally, the time comes, and the wife breaks down. It’s too much for her. She decides that since she can’t go to the government anymore, she’s going to ask the victim’s wife to ask for her husband to not be executed. That doesn’t go as planned and finally it’s time for the execution. Although she doesn’t get a dramatic goodbye, she is there when he is executed, as are Sheldon and Violet.
Next week, fall out from Violet’s now-published book.
This was a great episode. While I expected Addison to be cold, I didn’t expect her to channel Bizzy. I’m glad the whole gang joined in, but I was a tad awkward. Archer and Naomi are awesome, but whenever I see her with a man, it makes me miss Fife. But I guess with Naomi heading out at the end of the season, I should get over it. Loved the Captain admitting his loneliness, although I wish it didn’t have to come after being punched by Pete. I chuckled when Amelia said “I used to be part of this family.” I always forget that, although it’s a stretch, I like her on this show better than Grey’s. Another great part to the Bizzy story was the fact that Charlotte knew Addison’s secret, just as Addison knew Charlotte’s secret a few months ago. Their friendship is unspoken (and maybe not best of friends) but they have a trust there that is great. As for the non-Addison storyline, it was a great one. Violet and Sheldon working together on each side of the case was a brilliant pairing. In the end, when Violet said “I don’t say this often, but you are one of the strongest women I’ve known…” – it was just gut-wrenching. I wish we could see that Violet more often than the one we’re apparently going to see next week.
So, those are my two cents. What are yours? Glad the whole gang headed to be with Addy? Will Archer and Naomi keep their fling going? What will this book fallout bring? Leave your two cents below!

On yesterday’s The View, where KaDee Strickland (Charlotte) was a co-host, she revealed that by the end of the season, Charlotte and Cooper WILL get married! No details other than that, but yay!

I’m glad that Audra isn’t completely leaving the show. She just won’t be a regular anymore. 🙂
