It’s Valentine’s Day and it’s a “very special” Chuck – at least for Morgan (Joshua Gomez). Chuck himself has some ‘splainin’ to do after drumming up Sarah’s old team of super hot, super bad female operatives called The Cat Squad.
Turns out it’s not all lingerie, sleepovers and practice kissing inside the squad – there’s a double agent amongst the team of hot ladies. Of course, I knew who it was within seconds of meeting the team, but I won’t let that get in the way of enjoying the episode.
We open in a Charlie’s Angels fantasy inside Morgan’s head as Chuck fills him in about Sarah’s former Cat (Clandestine Attack Team) Squad. We won’t even let the redundancy of the team/squad thing stand in our way tonight. Turns out there’s at least one familiar face in the crowd Carina (Mini Anden) whom Chuck fans will remember from Chuck vs. The Wookie. The team-squad’s arch nemesis is also a familiar face: Lou Diamond Phillips tonight playing Gaez but we’ll call him Ritchie Valens the leader of The Gentle Hand – an ironically named crime syndicate.
The set-up is this: Chuck, thinking that Sarah is just like him and requires friends and family around at all times, feels bad about Sarah not having anyone to invite to the big engagement party – let alone the wedding. He does some flash-worthy research into Sarah’s past and discovers the Cat Team-Squad – deciding that these ladies would be perfect friends to invite on Sarah’s behalf. Of course he finds the ideal way to contact the team via Morgan who had a little thing with Carina before Alex (Mekenna Melvin) came along.
As it turns out, there’s some bad blood on the team between Sarah and Zondra (Mercedes Masöhn) . While they were tracking Ritchie Valens a few years ago, Sarah found a tracking device in Zonda’s boot – explaining why Ritchie Valens always seemed to stay one step ahead of the team-squad. Of course, Zondra denied any knowledge of the device but Sarah is convinced she’s the mole. I guess she completely missed the omg it’s so obvious mole Amy (Mircea Monroe) Who’s also playing Morning Randolph on the very funny HBO program Episodes (check it out if you haven’t already).
Anyhow, the ladies show up for Sarah’s bachelorette party and end up sticking around after a car explodes outside Chuck’s apartment almost killing Carina. General Grandma orders the team-squad to get back together and go after Ritchie Valens one more time.
Over in the b-story Morgan has to babysit his injured former fling Carina in Castle and therefor misses a few dates with Alex. It doesn’t help that Carina tries her hardest to sabotage Morgan and Alex’s relationship at every turn. Once she finds out Morgan hasn’t told his girlfriend that he loves her it’s game on for Carina.
Chuck, Casey and Sarah along with the Cat Team-Squad head to Rio to track down Ritchie Valens. Why is it always Carnival time in Rio? The team-squad and the Spy More bunch find him at a party (of course) and the entire Cat Squad-Team is captured leaving Casey and Chuck to the rescue. Ritchie Valens has the team-squad all tied up and he’s tormenting them while Sarah slowly cuts her way through the ropes. Eventually she frees herself and grabs Valens demanding to know who the mole in her team was/is. He is about to tell her when Chuck blunders in trying to rescue her and ruins the moment.
Back at Castle Amy and Casey attempt to interrogate Valenz further, but Amy reveals herself as the mole, knocking Casey unconscious, taking out Morgan and Carina and escaping Castle leaving Chuck to fight the two himself upstairs in the closed Spy More. Chuck flashes and makes some throwing stars out of DVDs crushed in a waffle iron and takes out the two bad guys du jour.
Sarah and Zondra patch things up and Sarah asks the remaining members of the Cat Squad-Team to be her bride’s maids. Morgan patches things up himself with Alex and the couple, who were moments away from breaking up, share their Valentine’s Day “I love you”s. Sarah asks Ellie to be her maid of honor (isn’t it a matron of honor if the woman in question is a mother?) and all is right in Buymoria.
