You know what I love the most about 90210? Before tonight, not much. But they redeemed themselves by not having a Valentine’s Day episode. It was filled with the typical drama, foolishness and continued storylines from last week.
We’ve got the post-Ian/Teddy fallout, Ade and her reality show, Silver keeping her Navid secret, Naomi trying to stop Guru Sona from building the new center and the continued Annie/Emily life-ruining drama.
“Good things are going to start happening to Teddy.” (Silver about/to Teddy)
Teddy is devastated by his breakup with Ian. He would still be in the closet if it weren’t for the blackmail (on top of the fact he started to have feelings for him). Anyhoo, knowing how he works, Silver takes him to the roof to hit some tennis balls to fix his broken heart. Who knew people were down there? They hear an “OUCH!” and run down to find Marco, a nice looking fella who hits on Teddy and writes his number on the tennis ball and gives it back to him, asking him for lessons sometime. “Good things are going to start happening to Teddy,” says supportive friend Silver.
“My bikini waxer is more spiritual than you, Guru.” (Naomi)
Naomi is trying to stop the land sale to Guru Sona but it’s not happening. After not completing her assignment for science class with lab partner and potentially hot nerd Max (a la Ugly Betty‘s Henry), she borrows a bullhorn from a cheerleader and heads out to the groundbreaking for the new site. Max goes with her to complete their assignment. When Naomi’s very inspiring “Screw you, Guru!” doesn’t get the people going, she runs off into the woods. Max, a sweet guy who just wants to 1) get his work done and 2) help, follows her. They find a rare owl. Of course they do. What does this mean? It’s protected by the government and not only can Guru Sona not build on the land, but any land sale is null and void. Naomi and Max make their presentation with her lawyer and make their case. Naomi gets her money back and Max gets his assignment done. And of course, a new friendship is formed – or possibly more when Naomi says “I think I have the hots for a nerd.” See, it’s the Henry syndrome!
“Nothing about you is innocent, Emily.” (Annie)
Emily is the new Annie. She’s got the lead in the play (which Annie finally finds out about while handing out scripts at the table read) and is actually a pretty good actress, making everyone believe that Annie is the mean one. She crosses a line when she gets all up on Liam (literally – she was in his lap). Emily admits to Annie that she is out to get her because she wouldn’t be friends with her and shows off her acting skills with a nice cry. Since no one wants to listen to Annie whine that Emily is out to get her, this is going to get ugly.
Shirazi Entertainment 2.0
After paying for a meal, Mrs. Shirazi gets the question “Shirazi, like the kiddie porn?” and Navid gets the bright idea to turn Shirazi Studios into a legitimate business. His idea is renting out the studio to make local commercials and infomercials, but Dixon has bigger ideas. Luckily for them, Laurel is in the business (and conveniently works at the same office as E and Scott from Entourage!). While waiting in the lobby, they run into Vaughn Floyd (aka Gary from What I Like About You), who is shooting a video for Nelly. They convince him to use their space. They have a few bumps in the road (see below) but in the end, Dixon’s knowledge of music artists (like knowing Nelly likes Candy Corn) keeps the gig alive by keeping the artist happy, which is the number one rule. In the end, the profit was $10, but Navid says it’s honest money and that’s what matters.
“You’re the chick who stole the songs from the dead Mexican dude?” (Nelly to Ade)
Ade is filming her reality show, full of boring stuff about Navid cheating on her and taking down the “skank” who did it. Naomi and Ade are naturals in front of the camera while Silver and Ivy … not so much. When Ade’s producer/director (whatever he is) says her show is boring (now that she’s not looking for her baby), she finds out about Nelly shooting at Navid’s studio, she heads there, demanding to meet Nelly. Navid says no way and asks her to leave but she defies him and goes straight to Nelly himself, who is not thrilled to meet “the chick who stole the songs from the dead Mexican dude.” On the way out, Navid confronts her for being a horrible person and admits to cheating on her. Although she asked them to turn the cameras off, they didn’t and her pilot episode is born.
This show can make my head hurt and make me laugh all at once. For example, after the Guru gets her land taken away, she says “Take me to In’N’Out. I need red meat.” That’s just awesome. Totally a fraud and she has to get In’N’Out! Loved seeing Jonathan Wesley (Vaughn) who I still watch on TeenNick repeats of What I Like. And the birth of Shirazi 2.0 is a great idea, but are we supposed to believe that Navid and Dixon are going to run it? Ivy was around but only to be in Ade’s show for five seconds. Teddy already rebounding is great and I’m glad Silver is helping him out. Emily and Annie – psh. I can’t go there. And Ade? I can’t wait for her world to fall apart. And Naomi and Max? Can’t wait to see Henry, I mean Max, take his glasses off and – POOF – be hot.
What are your thoughts? Think Emily will succeed in taking over Annie’s life? Can Shirazi 2.0 work? Will Naomi and Max get together? Leave your two cents below.

This turned out to be a great episode. My favorite part was when Navid & Dixon decide to launch their own production studio, and then they go to underground records and bump into Nelly’s producer (scene can be watched at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3VUfqiMPuc )….doing some Nelly pick-ups is sure an upgrade over shooting ads for Navid’s dentist!
Also thought it was awesome that “Bang, Bang, Bang” by Mark Ronson, Q-Tip and MNDR was playing in the background – love that song!
