It’s that time of year. The time when most other shows have gone on mid-season hiatus, new reality TV shows pop up and I bust out my DVD collection. More importantly, it’s that time of year when The Amazing Race finale airs!
Tonight the final three teams – a good, even final three – head back to the States to face their last leg and possibly make TAR history with the first all-female team to win the race. Also, because it’s the final three, the post will go from third to first just in case you get confused (and for a better suspense factor!). 🙂
And now …
The Top Three Things I Learned From The Amazing Race 17 Finale
3. Girls rule, boys … don’t? Thomas is such a sweet guy, saying he could care less about the all-female teams breaking history (and also says he can use his Spanish skills in Los Angeles). Boy, he’s a classy guy. Upon landing, they go from first to last but make up time in the taxi, getting to the clue second. Thomas does the Rose Bowl task because they had saved up the tasks for him to be last on Road Blocks, thinking it was going to be physical. Whoops! They finish the race while Nat and Kat are still trying to figure out the clues. They get one of the cab drivers who doesn’t even know what the internet is. Oy. Not only that, but he chooses to get on the phone and doesn’t even let them use the phone or get out of the cab! The two of them wind up yelling “Internet? Internet?” in the middle of the streets at one point. Once Brook and Claire make it into the studio and it’s a race between the final two, we don’t even see these guys anymore except for them to say they’re screwed.
2. When you’re starving for the win, you can come pretty close. One of the two all-female teams left, Brook and Claire say they are hungry to beat Thomas. At the bungee jump, Brook starts to feel the fear as she waits her turn. As they fall, it’s lots of screaming and crying. Brook does the Rose Bowl task – and is super excited to do it – and feel they can catch up during the task. They choose to go to a hotel to get on the internet. That’s a smart choice. They get the answers to the clue rather fast with that logic. Team HSN (had to say it) are the second to arrive at the studio. TV hosts meet a TV host? Oh dear. They’re going all by memory, having written barely anything down (although they have a few notes). Second place for the other all-female team. Not bad!
1. Slow and steady WINS THE RACE! The second of the two all-female teams feel like they’re at an advantage heading back to the States, having lived in LA for four years. They are the first in a cab upon landing in L.A. and head towards the clue. Nat is afraid of heights big time and the task is to bungee jump. If Nat can’t get herself together, they will watch their chance go out the window. But she takes Kat’s hand and does it. Nat does the Rose Bowl task (probably one of the cooler tasks) and is on section two when the next team arrives. On her first try for approval, Nat gets a “no” and has to do a section over (uh oh), giving the other teams a chance to catch up. They get their clue but need a phone to figure out the answers behind the clues within the clues. They call someone for the first answer to the clue and charm their way to getting the answer. They are the first to the task! And of course, the final task is a memory task. Identify the greeters from all the previous legs. They must have watched the race before because they kept a notebook of the race. Finally, a team worthy of being in the final leg! They finish quickly thanks to their preparedness – without another team even in studio yet! THEY ARE FIRST!!! The first all-female team to win The Amazing Race!!!!!!
Next season preview! The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business (aka Fan Favorites)! THE COWBOYS! Brook and Claire (already??), Gary and Mallory, Margie and Luke, The Globetrotters, Kynt and Vyxin, Mel and Mike, LaKisha and Jennfer, Maria and Tiffany (really? Fan favorite?), Connor and Jonathan (The Sing Off called, they missed your audition tape..), Michael and Kevin (that has to be a joke).
Some of my random thoughts from the leg:
– Helicopter to surprise next destination? Coolest way to go (after a rickshaw, of course!).
– It took me all season but I can tell the difference between Stephanie and Jill.
– Nat and Kat deserve that win. For sure. They weren’t sneaky, they stayed calm and overcame fears (although I’m still a bit upset with Kat for eating the sheep’s head).
– Brook and Claire impressed me with their second-place finish.
– Jill and Thomas’ karma got back to them with their third-place finish. The race is all about karma.
So, what are your thoughts? Did the right team win? And how excited are you for the Cowboys to come back?? Leave your two cents below!
