Okay everyone, this is the first review of The Closer. If you haven’t heard of it, it is on Mondays at 9EST on TNT.

There are only five episodes left of this season and they all promise to be amazing! Before the show went on a short hiatus, Brenda was not chosen as chief of police and she kept her old position as Deputy Chief.

This episode starts of with Lt. Flynn at an AA meeting talking to a whole group of people and this is a side of Flynn we never get to see(the passionate side). At the end of the meeting he meets this guy named Jeff who claims this is his first AA meeting and talks to Flynn (who has been in AA for 14 years) who gives him some advice. Everything seems normal up to this point but when Flynn walks out to the parking lot to his car, he is attacked. Flynn is stabbed multiple times but is able to shoot the assailant two times but the suspect still gets away with the help of a partner.

The next scene is Flynn waking up with Lt. Provenza standing in his hospital room with “its a girl” balloon and Flynn says “there is a hell” (great humor) and Brenda chimes in and says “not yet Lt.”. Provenza claims that was the only balloon in the gift shop(hard to tell if he was telling the truth). In this episode the fabulous Mary Mcdonnel guest stars as Cap. Raydor who heads up the FID department(officer involved shootings, etc.) If you have watched the show before, Brenda and Sharon do not get along at all. Anyway the suspects body is found and because Lt. Flynn can not make a positive I.D., Sharon is forced to pass the case over to Brenda. Brenda is surprised that Cap. Raydor gave up the case that easily but Brenda’s husband, Fritz says that Sharon is sucking up because Brenda might become the next Assistant Chief of Police.

Brenda looks into the case and figures out that this was a murder for hire and whoever hired them must be somebody from one of Flynn’s old cases. The show takes a dramatic turn when Brenda looks into a case from a few years ago and sees Flynn is being investigated for witness tampering. Of course this fires Brenda up and she asks Flynn if he actually did this. He swears that he doesn’t and so Brenda goes into protection mode and looks to clear Flynn’s name. She interviews Rick Zuman(the guy Flynn put in prison) who is up for a new trial because the witness said she was forced into saying certain things. This guy is totally a creep but he does have connections on the outside and that includes Jeff who happened to be his old cell mate.

Meanwhile the ballistics report comes back and says that Flynn did fire two shots into the suspect who killed him and Cap. Raydor can officially take back over the force investigation case and Brenda of course is not taking it lightly. So Brenda goes into investigation mode and looks into the allegedly tampered witness and sees she is getting a lot of money from an unknown source. After a little tricky surveilance, Brenda finds out that this woman was payed to say she was tampered with. This automatically puts Flynn in the clear of all accusations against him.

So Brenda turns her attention to Rick Zuman(the guy Flynn put in prison a few years ago). The women tells Brenda the guy who gave her money is our old pal Jeff. If this is your first episode the first thing you have to know is Brenda doesn’t go by the book but she always gets her man. Brenda tracks down Jeff and tells him she wants money to keep the tampered testimony safe. A few hours later she follows Jeff to a storage locker used by Zuman before he went to jail and found a ton of stolen FBI money stolen from an undercover agent a few years ago.

Now all the puzzle pieces fall into place. All that is needed is the confession. She calls Zuman in again and gets him to admit that the money is his and that links him to attempted murder of Flynn and the murder of a undercover FBI agent a few years ago.

There you have it folks, as always it was an action packed hour of television. We didn’t see much of Cap. Raydor throughout but at the very end she walks in to Brenda’s office and they agree on lunch some time (this leaves Brenda confused). Right now we don’t know if Sharon is on Brenda’s side or not. This gives us something to think about until the next episode. What do you think of Cap. Sharon Rayder? Give me your two cents.

Actually, Brenda does always go by the book. She sometimes takes a lot of liberties and gets creative, but she goes by the book. Who payed Rick Zuman? The actor looks so familiar, but he isn’t credited on imdb yet.

Your right, Brenda does follow the book but she does bend the rules pretty hard sometimes. I have looked everywhere about who played Rick Zuman but I could not find anything. I will post again if I find his name.

  2. tammy says:

WHo played Rick Zuman? I know this man from somewhere and I think it’s from Ugly Betty, but I know that’s not right.

  3. tammy says:

I know he is famous for playing a gay character.

I recently saw that actor in another show, but can’t remember! It’s driving me crazy. He looks very similar to skeet ulrich.

Also, I’m starting to really warm up to Captain Rayder.

I don’t know about Capt. Raydor. I dont’t know who’s sides she is on. She will be on at least one more time this season I think.

Just watching this episode today and enjoyed actor Peter Paige’s portrayal of the sociopathic prison inmate, Rick Zuman. I kept saying to myself…”I know this guy from somewhere”. At the climax of the show it hit me like a mack truck…lol…OMG it’s Emmett Honeycutt from Queer As Folk’s! Yes…Rick’s role of the smartie pants prisoner with a spit fire sassyness to him was so VERY Emmett!!! 🙂
