Supernatural returned from its one week hiatus the best way it knows how – bloody, goretastic fun. Not only did we have Monster Gitmo, a soul-searching revelation and the return of badass!Dean, but there was also porn. Yes, even angels aren’t immune from our baser pleasures. Hold on to your shotguns and read on after the jump!
This episode was crammed full of why the face? moments, so lets break it down shall we?
Monster Gitmo
We open with Crowley torturing his doppelganger somewhere remote and warehouse-y about the location of Purgatory. The shifter that has taken Crowley’s form resists the King of Hell’s questions and gets his head chopped off. This is despite the fact that Crowley revealed that he’d taken what sounded like a whole lot of baby shifters hostage, and had no qualms about filleting them in front of uber shifter. Where is this place you ask?
Well its a prison with a Crowley twist. All those demons the Winchesters have been hunting in exchange for Sammy’s soul get sent into this hellhole. They are shackled, tortured, starved, treated as less than…I want to say human? In any case any demon that gets into Monster Gitmo doesn’t come out after Crowley’s done with them. Our old friend Meg revisits the Winchesters and ends up allying herself with the brothers – Sam and Dean don’t tell her they want to force Crowley to retrieve Sam’s soul; Meg just wants to ice Crowley before he does her. Crowley doesn’t like Lucifer loyalists remember?
Badass!Dean
FINALLY. I’ve been waiting for all that hatred and anger and frustration to manifest itself in the older Winchester and this episode it sure does. Apparently all it takes is more family betrayal. Seems like Gramps hasn’t been hunting demons for kicks – his payment is the return of Mary Winchester. The brothers of course are vehemently against this (read: life experience) and when Gramps sells the two of them out to Crowley and gets them locked up in Monster Gitmo, Dean looks Samuel straight in the eye and says he’s going to kill him. Gramps sees the boys as strangers, people who are completely foreign to him. We’ve seen this family fall apart at the seams before but Dean has never, ever threatened to kill his own blood with that cold, hard stare. It made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Angels Love Porn Too
The LOL moment of this hour? Castiel being introduced to porn and then replicating the pizza man’s actions on Meg. Nothing like a little tonsil hockey while hellhounds are banging against the door. Cas also learned from Dean that its inappropriate to watch porn in a room full of dudes. Why? To quote Dean, “Oh great. Now he’s got a boner.”
What Soul?
It seems that RoboSam comes equipped with some kind of veritaserum mind voodoo. He’s able to tell that Meg’s furious, desperate for their help when she’s got them tied up. Sam sans soul is also able to think up manipulative plans that sanction collateral damage. I approve. After all, he managed to con Castiel into helping out didn’t he?
The crux of this episode was that Crowley, after all those months of making the Winchesters his biznitch, can’t actually get Sam’s soul back. Castiel totally destroys him for this, something I wasn’t that surprised by. Our favourite angel’s been up there fighting a civil war – he’s bound to get a little less soft. In any case it seems angels and demons alike agree that Sam’s better off without a soul (YES!). Sammy’s essence has been trapped in a cage with Lucifer and Michael for a year – becoming for all intents and purposes a ready source of entertainment – and the consequences of forcing whatever mutilated version they manage to retrieve into Sam’s gullet? Just all around badness. Dean seems pretty intent on finding another way to get Sam his soul back but Sam disagrees. The episode ends with Sam walking away from Dean (again).
What did you think of this episode? Were you sad to see Crowley go? Do you agree with Sam or Dean about the whole soul thing? Did you want to lock Gramps up in Monster Gitmo too? Give me your TwoCents!

I think we haven’t seen the end of -insert gawdy English accent here- Our Favorite King of the Cross Roads.. I mean.. It’s evident that there is a Much Higher Power at work here.. (If you’ll pardon the pun..) I mean.. there are wayyyyyyy too many loose ends that need tying up such as:
* The Hunt for Purgatory
* The Big Reveal of the ” Mother ” of the Monsters
* Who’s running the show now in the Basement..
* Who’s really holding Meg’s leash?
That’s just a few that I’ve thought up just from this half of the season..
(Sorry.. I meant to just answer your “In Conclusion” questions.. and I’ve went off into left field!!)

I liked this episode. It kept me either on the edge of my seat (albeit mesmerized) watching Sammich gnaw on his own wrist.. or reaffirming my faith in Dean’s BADASSNESS when he stared Paw Paw in the eyeball and told him he’s next on his shit list… To being questioned by the hubby as to what I was laughing at..
this was in reference to Cas’s self education and then experimentation.. from the “Pizza Guy”..
I’m looking forward to next weeks show.. and Kudo’s to you Alyssa for a Bangin Recap!
all your questions crept into my head after i’d written the recap. considering i wrote it on little to no sleep (and we all know supernatural requires our FULL attention), i totally agree with what you said.
i hope they bring crowley back. i was just rewatching leverage and he was the villain-ish there too.
and thank you for your kind words =)
Sooooo glad to see Dean back. There are some major loose ends to wrap up, which leads me to my question, are they coming back for Season 7???
There isn’t any news that there will be a season 7 but so far I would say season 6 appears to be the swan song for the series. If there is a season 7, i’ll be the FIRST to let everyone know.
On the plus side, there’s a Supernatural anime being released next year. Go check out the trailers on YouTube!
