It’s been an emotional few weeks for our doctors at PW/OW (they really need a new name already). While Charlotte is the actual victim, each person is suffering in their own way. Last week, everyone put things together and figured out the truth behind what really happened, except for Cooper.

So this week, everyone knows and Charlotte isn’t happy. She just wants to be left alone. But what about Cooper? How will he handle the news? And how will Charlotte react to pointing Lee out in a lineup? And to top it all off, Pete talking about his family all this time wasn’t just for fun: His brother shows up asking for help for their sick mother, who is still in prison.

Medical Case #1: Eventually the doctors had to focus on people besides Charlotte. This was a joint venture between Amelia and Addison. While examining a young girl, her mother collapses to the floor and has a seizure. Amelia runs a test on her to pinpoint the cause of the seizure. She has a scar on her brain and of course, Amelia can fix it. There are risks of doing the procedure, included paralysis and going blind. The other option is to let the scar take its toll naturally, which will give the mother and daughter a good 10 years together. Amelia knows she can do this surgery without incident, guaranteeing them a lifetime together. Having lost her father at a young age, she appeals to the daughter to speak up and give her opinion after her mother refuses the surgery. In the end, the daughter asks her mother to have the surgery and she does. Amelia keeps her promise and the mother has no complications.

Medical Case #2/Pete: Pete first brought up his family when Violet vouched for a prisoner to be released. Since then, it’s been a topic of a conversation. Violet admitted she wanted to contact his brother. So what happens when his brother shows up at the practice out of the blue? At first he blames Violet, but she had nothing to do with it. It winds up his mother is sick (and still in prison) and his brother, now a lawyer, needs Pete’s help to get her released because of the medical condition and her lack of treatment in the prison. Pete agrees to see her and struggles with helping her. He examines her and questions her, noting that she really hasn’t changed her lifestyle. Ultimately he decides to lie about her condition. When he goes to tell her he’s going to help her, he asks her if she’s changed – it’s the only way he’ll help her – and if she’s sorry for killing Henry. She skirts around the questions and doesn’t feel any remorse for killing Henry (blames the alcohol and drugs). When Pete realizes that his mother will never change, he walks away, with the letter that would have gotten her released still in his hand. He asks Violet if he did the right thing and it’s obvious she doesn’t agree, but she tells him sometimes lies come from love.

Addison: She’s been holding a lot in the last few weeks and this week, she’s got a lot going on. First, Charlotte goes off on her for sending the swabs to the police and then she really reflects on her life after watching the mother/daughter bond between her patient and her mother. She tells Sam she wants to be a mother – and soon – which may not be good for their relationship since he already told her he does NOT want kids (after all, he is a grandfather). There’s no discussion, simply her stating the fact that she wants kids and soon and there will be no discussion. The look on Sam’s face though … you can tell trouble is ahead.

Violet: Watching Charlotte go through everything has to be like looking in a mirror for Violet. The only difference is that Violet went after her attacker. When Charlotte asks Violet to go with her to identify Lee in a lineup (which she doesn’t do, but rather lies and runs out), Violet knows what went on and why she chose her over Cooper: He would be able to see through the lie. She finally tells Charlotte there was a woman who watched her at the trial against her rapist who sat there and watched every day and finally, when Violet spoke to her, it was the woman who was raped by the same man before her. If she had come forward, Violet would have never been raped. While Charlotte yells at her to get out, it obviously gets to her.

Sheldon: Last week he realized he was in the room with Charlotte’s attacker. Then he had to come to terms with the fact that Lee raped Charlotte. That’s a lot for one man to handle. So what happens when Charlotte is blaming everyone for going to the police? Sheldon proudly steps forward and admits he did it and tells her he was in the room with Lee, questioning him about what he did. After Charlotte lies at the line up, Sheldon follows Lee to a park and sees him with his girlfriend and their son (assuming it’s their son). This is odd, considering in his breakdown, Lee said his girlfriend cheated on him. Is it a new girlfriend? Or is there more to his story that we are missing? Either way, Sheldon has a lot invested in Charlotte and in Lee.

Cooper: He is oblivious to what’s going on around him. He doesn’t pick up on why Charlotte wants Violet to go with her to the line up instead of him and he still hasn’t figured out that the woman he loves was raped. Unable to take it any longer, Violet goes to Cooper and tells him the truth. He’s stunned. An interesting moment occurs in the elevator when he runs into Amelia, who wants to get a drink with him. The last time they drank together, Charlotte was attacked, so Cooper says he does not want to drink with her – ever again. He goes home to Charlotte with “the look” and vows to protect her in any way he can, including getting a gun if need be. In the end, she takes him with her to pick out Lee in a line up. That’s huge.

Charlotte: She is impacting so many people without even doing or saying much. First she didn’t (wouldn’t) identify Lee but thanks to Cooper’s support (and Sheldon and Violet’s pressure), she finally came forward. While she is upset with Addison for giving the samples to the police, in the end she’ll be thankful for that evidence. Her tightly grabbing Cooper’s hand at the end was a nice sight, her way of reaching out – something she hasn’t done much of yet.

Next week, Naomi is back.

This was another great episode. So many things are going on. Charlotte picking out Lee was a surprise for me – I didn’t think she would do it (but I’m glad she did it). The upcoming episodes with her road ahead will be interesting to watch (much like Violet/Katie). Addison telling Sam she wants a baby was out of nowhere but expected considering their conversation earlier in the season. The question is will it tear them apart? Who knows. And Sheldon, poor Sheldon, has a lot going on. He’s got to deal with the fact that while Charlotte was suffering he was in the room with her attacker. That’s going to come out in a way I’m sure we’ve never seen before. Maybe Amelia will help him through it?

What are your thoughts? Did you love Cooper wanting to protect Charlotte? Glad to see Lee be identified? What will happen when Naomi comes home? Leave your two cents below.
