Surf’s up! How hot is Grace Park btw? She and her mentor Ian are out on the waves, when he gets shot. Um what? That takes some incredibly sharp shooting to shoot someone on the waves not knowing where they are going to be. Fortunately McGarrett is no dummy and he figures that out too.
At the beach house where the surf team and coaches live, Danno is flabbergasted by a conversation that occurs in…well, Hawaiian surfer Pig Latin. Kevin Sorbo makes a cameo as another surfer guy, who was good friends with Ian.
At the fancy techno-savvy Hawaii Five-O office, the guys are trying to protect Kona, and they essentially kick her off the case. They figure out where the bullet came from and hop on dirt bikes to get there. But Danno isn’t allowed to go, bum knee and all, so he and Kono have a heart to heart.
On the ridge, McGarrett and Chin Ho decide that lots of people could have made the shot, even as skillful as it needed to be. McGarrett finds where the sniper was lying to make his shot. Chin Ho finds a recent boar kill, with a marker, so they might have a witness. Danno helps them narrow down the suspect list, and they’re down to two. Apparently these guys are part of a gang? Club? Group that acts as protectors of the island. Kono seeks out an old surfing buddy, Ben, who has given up the board. Cute Ben hasn’t talked to Ian in a long time, since he got greedy, now he does honorable environmental work.
Danno and McGarrett are on a strategic op, but Danno has issues with the plan. McGarrett has to explain how things work on the island, again. McGarrett and the Kupa chief have a nice chat that turns into a measuring contest, but it all ends well. The guy will bring McGarrett the guys in trouble. But when they are delivered they have an alibi. Ben takes Kono to his home, basically a group og gypsy tents on the beach. Kono offers to help, surprising Ben. That night, the cutest kid in the world is singing with a ukelele. Ben tells Kono about why he left the world behind, because Ian and Ben’s dad (Kevin Sorbo) were total hypocrites and were polluting the world with their factories. Just as they start kissing, the tent camp is attacked. Kono gets a good kick in, but the guys still get away.
Kono gets a partial plate off one of the bikes. New info suggests that Ben may be the culprit, since the land he’s been living on is under threat from Ian’s company who wanted to buy it. Ho Chin discovers that the dead guy Ian was changing his will. Ben was his new beneficiary. So Kono has to tell Ben that he’s a suspect and now there is even more motive. If Ben knew any of what Kono tells him, he’s a really good actor. Kono has to be mean to him and ask for his rifle, and Ben is pretty upset (rightfully so).
So they can’t conclude that he did or that he didn’t. But in the investigation, they come up against the same two thugs that Danno and McGarrett already questioned. And begin car chase. Danno: “No I’m not scared, I’m rationally concerned.” They pull a Dukes of Hazzard move and stop them. Since the thugs aren’t afraid of McGarrett and Danno, they call in the Kupa head boss who is very scary. Turns out the guy who hired them is the driver for Ben’s dad. (I knew it!) The guy doesn’t look that intimidating though, and certainly not like a sniper. Ben’s dad is the killer (or the money behind the killer). And in an extra special twist, Ben is Ian’s son!
The episode ends with a beautiful surf tribute to Ian. I totally love this show! What about you? Leave your TwoCents!

I love it, too! That surfer memorial at the end was awesome! By the way, Daniel Dae Kim’s character is named Chin Ho Kelly. 🙂
I think you mean “Kono gets a partial PLATE off one of the bikes” (second to last paragraph) 🙂
I loved the beautiful funeral ceremony at the end..HELP..the song that was being sung…does anyone know the title? Is it on a C.D. simply beautiful..I have searched the web to no avail..If anyone can assist me..I would be greatful…Thank You.
The song used in the memorial service at the end of the show is called Hawai’i ’78 recorded by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. He passed away at 38.
I thought that surf funeral song was great as well and would like to know the title, band etc.
I found this reference to the song:

Hawai’i ’78 Introduction
The song is beautiful. Just came back from Oahu on 10/28. We were there on business but had one day of shopping and this song was playing in a Hilo Hattie store. So glad I found this blog and someone knew the name, etc. It wasn’t published in the credits at the end of the show.
