Cue the music and the sweeping vistas of Hawaii. Which takes a turn for the worse when we cut to a prison break. Kind of a brilliantly planned prison break, but the good guys end up dead and the bad guy gets away.
In a different level of hell, McGarrett is waiting at baggage claim. Turns out his sister, Mary Ann (played by Taryn Manning, who by the way, what happened to her?) has been arrested for disabling a smoke alarm on an airplane. He bails her out, and the bitterness flows between them.
Best Quote: “I would literally pay you cash to stop talking.” – McGarrett to Danno
The team comes together to find Dawkins who has a penchant for young couples. Watching the footage, they realize that one of the guards was in on it. A little tough guy action later and they’ve got a clue. When they go to talk to Dawkins’ friend? Cellmate? (love DL Hughley!) McGarrett gets challenged to a game of hoops, which he sucks at, but since Danno is injured he can’t help. So after a sweet coaching session from Danno, McGarrett sweeps the game and they get the intel they need. Some hot girl and her husband won a trip to Hawaii and a bunch of cash on a game show and apparently this set the guy off. He HAD to escape prison to abduct, rape, kill them.
Chin Ho and Kono follow the lead, which gives them a change to blonde hair and a trade with a homeless man for his uniform. Danno also tracks down the couple that’s being targeted, they are just in time to have the girl die on them. They rush her to the hospital, and it looks like she might make it. But it doesn’t really make sense, why would Dawkins kill the girl and keep the guy? (for the record I typed that before they said it!) They all have their orders, and Danno reminds McGarrett that his sister has been sitting in his office for hours.
McGarrett has Kama Kona baby sit the naughty sister, but they have a nice moment in any case. They go to visit Dawkins girlfriend. And I have to interject here (to point back to an article I wrote recently here for TTC), one of the reasons I’m watching this show is the chemistry between Scott Caan (Danno) and Alex O’Loughlin (McGarrett). Their banter is awesome, and so authentic.
Back to the action, Dawkins has taken the guy because the guy owes him money. From a bank robbery. Where Dawkins shot the guy and left him for dead. Really, I think maybe the not-dead guy kind of deserves the money after that. So they go to a local bank to get the money (which seems like a really dumb idea), of course Five-O is on the trail and arrive just in time for Dawkins to shoot the not-dead guy again. He steals a car, and on the way they lose visual via highway cams, so McGarrett calls in a favor from a cute soldier whom he clearly has history with to use a military spy satellite to track the car.
But Dawkins has commandeered a tourist helicopter, but it’s not built to go to another island and is running out of fuel. McGarrett (smoothly piloting his own commandeered helicopter) sees them go down. He kind of really has a hero complex doesn’t he? So he and Chin Ho land safely and check on the helicopter crash. The pilot is dead (not from the crash) and the family that was hijacked has been taken as hostages. McGarrett and Chin Ho are not far behind the group, but they aren’t very stealthy in any case. So they catch up, and after some shooting McGarrett gets his man. Getty’s stunt man gets to do a lovely tumble down a rainforest hill too.
McGarrett is with the woman who started the whole thing, and she asks to see her lying criminal husband (who apparently survived another gunshot wound). She forgives her husband, and is a nice parable for McGarrett to talk to his sister (who has slipped the big man to visit the grave of their father). Awww.
I don’t know about you, but I love this show! I never thought I would either. What do you think? Leave your TwoCents below!

who was the guy that played Dawkins??
Balthazar Getty- from Brothers and Sisters fame. Practically unrecognizable! (and I would have sworn I wrote that into the review last night but not it’s not there…gremlins I tell you!)
I think Taryn had her lips done. Poorly. She looked terrible. And I love Taryn Manning!!
