So now that Mike had the courage to ask Molly out, they have to go on an actual date. And I think it’s pretty much a universal human experience to feel like vomiting in the hours leading up to a first date with someone you’re interested in. Or in this case, vomit on the date!
Carl is the ever-helpful sidekick to Mike who doesn’t seem that worried about the date, including a zen like approach to being cool. Molly gets home and is sick. Swoosie Kurtz is lovely drinking a huge glass of wine (and it occurs to me that everyone in the family appears to have an addiction, alcohol, pot and food).
And then a light bulb goes off. The show wasn’t created by the beloved genius Chuck Lorre, it’s simply produced by him, which (for me at least) explains some of what’s been lacking from this show. So with that in mind, I see the show with fresh eyes.
So Mike’s looking for a suit, and while Carl ribs him, he is also pretty supportive, until the complementary HotPockets. Molly is given some cough syrup with Codine to fight the cough, and swigs a lot of it. So cute they are both worried about what to wear. Mike shows up in a giant golf sweater, and Molly is looking cute in a dress ensemble, except she’s passed out. Her sister (being helpful) feeds her a diet pill (ie speed). Molly is awake and kicking now!
On the car ride to the restaurant, Molly can’t stop talking (got to love Melissa McCarthy!) They are still drinking out of the largest wine glasses made to man, she cops to cough medicine and being loopy, but drinks a lot anywhere. She takes on the waiter about dessert, in a great scene, and when she doesn’t return from the bathroom Mike has to go look for her (ie rescue her).
She recovers to have a nice heart to heart in the car when he drops her off. Which is very sweet, then she barfs, which nixes the notion of a good night kiss. And they agree to a do over date.
On patrol the next day, Carl and Mike review the date. Disaster date! “I’m gonna marry that girl” he says! Awww.
Well, I’m starting to have affection for this show. I still think that Molly’s family is a bit over the top, but I really like Mike and Molly. What do you think? Share your Two Cents!

The second episode actually was way better than the first. I really enjoyed it. I think I might wind up really liking this show. 🙂
Best line so far: “All my clothes pop…eventually” I love this show.
