The wait is over! How I Met Your Mother is finally back for its 6th season, and it started with a BANG! We got a glimpse back into the world of “the mother” as well as the chance to reconnect with the beloved characters, Ted, Robin, Marshall, Lily, and of course, Barney. If you missed the show during the summer as much as I did, you probably loved hearing Grown Up Ted’s voice say “kids…” and probably loved hearing the word “legendary.” The season 6 premiere episode did not disappoint.
The episode opens with Ted and Marshall drinking beer outside the church they were at for the wedding. We are painted a picture that this must be Ted’s wedding, since, let’s face it…this is what the show is all about.
He’s tearing off the wrapper of the beer bottle, which is something he does when he’s nervous. They then jump to present day where Ted is sitting in the bar doing the same thing, staring at a hot, young blonde girl sitting at the bar. Barney comes over, sees her, and calls dibs, which leads into a funny, but unfortunately brief, “fake history lesson from him.” Robin comes in all unwashed, ugly, and dirty; still coping with her breakup with Don. She makes the observation that this girl is waiting for someone, like a date. Just then, Ted sees her say hello to someone that he recognizes…it was Cindy! The girl from the 100th episode that he once dated and we then later find out that she’s roommates with his future wife. He wonders if this mystery girl is her roommate.
Cindy confronts Ted and thanks him because in the long run, dating him helped her realize some things in her own life. She wants to thank Ted, and he suggests that she set him up with someone. She then told him to say goodbye before he left. He thought that this was the perfect way to make his move. Meanwhile, Robin had tried an experiment, went home and changed into a super hot sundress and it only took 14 seconds for someone to hit on her. She wanted to prove that she still had it, and could still attract a guy after her breakup. It looks like she’ll recover well. After this, Ted decided to say goodbye to Cindy, and to make his move. On his way over to them, something unexpected happens…Cindy and the blonde girl start kissing! Cindy obviously learned that she was attracted to other women, thanks to dating Ted. Such a great twist!
At the same time, Lily and Marshall are getting ready to start their journey of having a baby, and in preparation, Marshall hasn’t touched himself in 2 weeks. However, this is nothing compared to Lily’s preparations. She’s read countless books, started eating right, and everything else one can imagine to get ready for pregnancy. Things are going just right, until Lily receives a call from Marshall’s dad when he admits to knowing about their plans. This upsets her since she doesn’t want everyone finding out until she’s actually pregnant. She then confronts Marshall telling him that he shares too much with his dad. They get into a huge fight at the bar, but in the end, Marshall realizes that his dad is way too involved, and that Lily’s true fear is that she’ll disappoint him by not giving him a baby. It ends with a heartfelt moment between the two of them.
At the end, we get another glimpse of the wedding, and Lily coming out of the church asking Ted, “the Best Man” to come in…! Who’s wedding is it??
Who do you think is getting married? Were you happy to see Cindy again? Are you excited for Lily and Marshall’s family plans? What did you think of the episode? Leave your TwoCents in the comments and I’ll see you all next week!

I would put money on it being Barney’s wedding..Barney and Robin’s if I have my fingers crossed tight enough..and with neither one of them being in the scene, I think I have it right. 🙂
And on that topic, I loved the Barney/Robin interaction. You can tell Barney still has feelings for her and I think he’s going to help get her out of her Don-funk.
I enjoyed the Marshall/Lily stuff .. but mostly I’m glad we finally are getting closer to the mother part of How I Met Your Mother. And a reference to the umbrella again, YAY! (The mother has a yellow umbrella.) While I wasn’t all OMG I LOVE THIS EPISODE it definitely shows promise for the season. 🙂
I hope it’s NOT Barney and Robin’s wedding. As much as I loved their relationship, I really wish that Robin ends up with someone like Ted.
But who knows what kind of person Barney becomes in the future? 🙂
It’s like a warm blanket having the gang back again. YAY for Fall TV!
