Our season finale is finally upon us, how sad is that?! We get a few answers in this episode and we are also going to have a bit of a crazy ending.
It starts out great as Annie and Auggie are having a drink and she does a little “cheers” motion which he doesn’t see…of course. She tells him she gave him a faux clink…he tells her he knows…haha. Funnier to see than have me write and explain it, trust me.
So professor Sabine Anton in Sri Lanka is running from some goons and is captured.
Next thing you know, Ben Mercer is turning himself in at the Agency.
Annie watches Ben take a polygraph and we learn Jai was his handler. We also learn Ben trusts Annie and went rogue when he met Annie and wanted to help the professor hide a couple years ago. But the scientist he relocated is missing and thinks the terrorists took him. He needs Agency resources and credibility to do that. Arthur wants Annie to be his handler in Sri Lanka…are you serious?
Auggie wants to know what’s going on and she tells him. He tells her it is dangerous, but she wants to do it. He gives her a GPS so he can track her at all times and gives her his phone number…it is her get out of jail free card with a price…a sandwich. She kisses him on the cheek and tells him she will be ok. I like how Auggie has her back at all times, and she has his. They are great together. I am also liking that Annie is going to face Ben and do her job.
Art gets news that Liza is going to print an article and he is not happy about it.
Annie and Ben arrive in Sri Lanka, and enjoy a few little moments.
Meanwhile Arthur talks to Auggie about Liza having info that can hurt the agency. He wants Auggie to talk to Liza even though she hasn’t talked to him since the last time he fed her bogus info. He agrees to try and talk to her. Art tells him it is crucial to the operations out in the field.
Joan on the other hand is approached by a fellow spook saying that Liza’s info is damaging to Art and wants to know if she would accept …if an offer is made…to take Art’s job. What? Oh my! I want to know what the dirt is on Art, don’t you?
Jai meets his old man and says he needs advice. He finds out Dad knew about Ben. Daddy’s advice to Jai is to take initiative. Ben never really listened to upper management and I think the old man likes that and wants his son to grow a pair and be more like that.
In Sri Lanka Annie and Ben meet up with his contact Lonestar who gives some information before dying right in front of them by poison. A&B takes off on a motorbike through town. Now I do have to say, that is some really bad shooting on the part of the bad guys. They are right on top of these 2 and never seem to hit them. The dudes in the truck go off a cliff and A & B go looking for a place to hide.
Back home: Auggie meets with Liza and tries to apologize but she wants no part of it. So then he charms her by saying he is not sorry and that he is glad he met her, blah, blah blah. She falls for it and agrees to give him 72 hrs before publishing the article.
Sri Lanka: Of all places…Ben takes her to the shack they hung out in when times were better between the two of them. She is a little miffed about it but then he shows her that he still has the bracelet they got together. She realizes he did love her and of course …get back to doing what they always did in the shack…shack up! She wakes up the next morning with him telling her they gotta go, because people are after them. Jai shows up and he is not there under orders, he is there to help. Guess the old man would be proud. But since Ben is out of contacts he goes rogue to get the bad guys. Jai has order to shoot if needed. Wait! Why does Jai get a gun and not Annie???
Home: Auggie and Liza are at a bar and exchange items the each has left at the others place. Then Aug tells her thanks and that she saves some missions. She tells him the article was about Arthur, what missions?? The light goes off in Auggie’s head and sees that he was played by Art, but now knows that Art owes him one. He warns her to be careful with the person who is her source. She leaves the building and gets in the car….and who is there waiting for her….Old Man Wilcox!!! I knew it!
Joan goes into Arts office and tells him that they are going to fight together. Wow, the next power couple has arrived. She is standing by her man! Queue song by Tammy Wynette. I don’t know why we have to teeter wondering if they are together or not together…every week. Jeez!
Sri Lanka: Auggie calls Annie and wonders if she is ok, because of the feed he is getting on her tracker. I guess Ben picked up her bracelet by accident. They get the coordinates and find Ben getting his professor buddy out of harm’s way. Lots of “is Ben a good guy” or “is Ben a bad guy” before we have Annie actually save his life only for him to enter a helicopter to get away…and get shot …twice. This story ends with Annie holding Ben in her arms as he looks about to meet his maker.
Now we wait till next summer.
I have to say , I just love the show….no not just because Gorham is in it, but because it is really good. I hope next year we get more episodes and even more drama. Thank you USA for a wonderful summer.I hope to get all my commenters back next year.
Tell me your thoughts. Did you love how Auggie has Annie’s back? Did you know Henry was the leak? Is Jai trying to impress daddy? Is Ben dead?

i think you underplayed Auggie’s fatherly/big-brotherly/foot-putting-down act that failed miserably but was oh-so-adorable.
“Why does Jai get a gun and not Annie???” He must have still been armed from the last epi when he was given the go ahead 😛
btw, I’m thinking Ben may have taken hers on purpose in some convoluted conspiratorial move to get Jai and Annie to help him get the teacher when Jai probably would have said no if Ben asked him to.
Jai may be trying to impress daddy, but i think he may genuinely have feelings for annie as well, which probably pushed him towards going to help when they didn’t check in more so than making daddy proud.
i think i agreed with someone’s theory about henry being the leak but then forgot. i do that a lot. at the moment i was surprised but then was thinking, i should have thought of that, and then was thinking i think i did think he was possible. I blame old age (i AM almost 30, lol)
Is Ben dead? Honestly I don’t really care. That’s not true. I kind of hope he is so that Annnie can begin finally getting over him. Whether he did/does love her, I don’t think he deserves to love/be loved by her. He just seems to want to keep using her to achieve his personal goals. and when he says things about loving her and whatnot, he just does not seem sincere to me. intentional? bad acting? wishful thinking? who knows…
I’m starting to see that I’m not the only one who snoozes at the least hint of Ben. I LIKED the flashbacks, but in such a short series I’m amazed at how am I already so tired of him! I don’t think he’s dead. I don’t think we’ll be that lucky. And I really don’t want to watch four episodes next year covering her mourning him.
Henry made such a small impression on me I had to really remind myself who he was. And because of that, he seemed the most likely lead candidate.
And since Auggie and Annie are such good friends, how come Jai gets to come over and Auggie doesn’t? Now that the sister has met him maybe he can come over now. For some reason the idea of Auggie interacting with her family makes me smile. Would really like to see more Annie/Auggie outside of work time. Not in romantic sense just a friendly one.
crap, that’s a good point about the mourning, but if he is alive, it may be worse cause then they may attempt a relationship(?). Still think Ben and Tash should go elope somewhere so I can definitely be done with them. I just am not sympathetic to either of them…at all. maybe it’s just because Auggie is so awesome and I think he and Annie could become more than friends when she gets her head out of her butt and pays attention to more than her own little universe. if she doesn’t get herself killed first for defying a direct order…
Funny, how everyone I talk to is not impressed with the Ben character and could care less if he lives or dies. We don’t want our Annie to be hanging on or mourning like you said for a long time…so writers…wrap up that storyline, please.
As hot as Ben is, he is annoying; and for a story arc that has now finished, he is no longer needed. If he lives, he better not be let back “in” and cause all this romantic tension crap, blah, blah w/Jai and Auggie and Annie. That would be unbelievably lame and would ruin the show. Well, if he does, honestly, I really don’t care about his character one way or another. I think that he should just go a way, dead or alive.
Jai+Annie? I hope never, and Auggie will freak out maybe out of jealousy or maybe he is not 100% on board w/Jai, ie. trusting him–I can’t remember if I have noticed that or not.
Big clue Auggie is becoming part of the fam? He went and played w/the third graders, how cute was that?
I told you Arthur was the leak! The pilot people, the pilot–it was all there.
Admittedly in the episode prior to the Ben one, Jai’s dad is a prick, but he knows his shit, pardon my language. He’s harsh, but he plays and played the game well. They just don’t want him around anymore, as he is a bit careless w/his operatives; or was anyway. This is bad, very bad, because in the spy world the only people who have your back, are other spies, or spy, as the politicians will leave you in the dust, if something changes, ie. policy.
Well, that’s it–I have to say the one thing I love about Annie, are those hot Louboutins. They are so not typical of a person who roughs it in Sri Lanka and travels around the world by herself. But she loves those $600 shoes, and she is always wearing them.
It was a great summer USA, and well, next up for me Caprica.
K
Seriously? who runs around in Louboutins anyways?? As for Auggie hanging with the family…oh what fun that would be. I just loved how Auggie did the chaperone-thing for her. And if you look at his face..he is enjoying every bit of it, don’t let him fool ya. I am sure Danielle will be bringing up Auggie’s name once in a while and asking Annie why she doesn’t ask him over or go out with him. The tension is going to build…trust me.
So, I know I’m the complete opposite of a “shoe person”, but I really don’t get the whole Louboutin thing. Don’t burn me at the stake or anything, but they just look like shoes to me. What makes them so great? Besides the name on the label…
I loved the finale, I really did, can’t wait for the next season! Blaaaah, it’s going to be a long wait.
From what I see in the other comments, you all agree with me: I don’t like Ben at all, I don’t buy his act when he says he loves her or when he says anything else for that matter. He is just plain annoying :p LOL
I realy want Auggie to hang with the family 😀 that would be great. And about Henry being the leak, I yelled at the screen: “I knew it!”
Well, that’s about it, I’ll be back if I think of something else.
Great review.
I have to say its fantastic to see that I’m not the only person who dislikes Ben, and sorta hopes he dies…and that sounds terrible. But if they have to keep him alive I hope they make him a bad guy.
Did anyone else feel like they were trying to push to magnets with the same polarity towards each other. Seriously, they have zero chemistry and it honestly hurt to watch them shack up in the shack lol.
And even if the actors did have chemistry, the whole relationship is one giant lie and it only lasted 2 weeks…I don’t understand how it can be this great love when they don’t even know each other. His whole “Annie made me see things differently” crap was so ridiculously cheesy.
Sorry, I’m gonna stop bitchy about Ben the annoying.
Auggie…I love Auggie to painful/ unhealthy levels of love for a TV character lol. The ‘call me protective’/ kiss on cheek scene was the best scene of the entire episode. And the episode before it, Auggie covered in kids, way too cute for words.
Also Joan and Arthur banding together against Henry seems like it could be very interesting. And if Arthur does get fired, I think Joan and Henry butting heads could be intense.
So in other words Auggie :), Ben…. 😡
Don’t feel bad for wanting Ben dead, you only want it for the char, right? Not the actor so… LOL Personally I don’t want him a bad boy either, maybe because I have a thing for bad boys in films and I just don’t think he’d be up to it. For making me like the villain that is. You said it so right: “pushing two magnets with the same polarity towards each other” exactly my feeling. He has to go!
Ha, there is a lot of people that love Auggie to ‘painful/unhealthy levels”, that is what is so great! Thanks for visiting and commenting!
Okay, I could have sworn Arthur was meeting w/the reporter chick in the pilot, but I am wrong. But the actor who plays Jai’s Dad, is so great; he was amazing on 24 and remains so here.
As for the shoes, you have to be into fashion to love them. They cheapest is about $600 and they are all handmade; that is why they are so coveted. If you are not into that, it would seem silly that a girl w/a relatively low pay grade, would spend money on those shoes.
As for Auggie, I like that he always has Annie’s back. The other thing that I like is that their relationship is special, not consistently fraught w/the tension that made Alias so much fun and kinda hot. I am glad they are not trying to mimic that relationship. Auggie, has her back, and really is the only one–and I loved how she lit up and smiled when Jai said that was how he found them–like that’s my boy! BTW: is he her handler?
As for Jai, i really hope he and Annie do not hook up–is so cliche. But he has big problems ahead.
As someone who did not like this show in the beginning, it has grown on me. As long as Auggie, more exciting adventures, and development of relationships and story lines from show to show continue; ie. Auggie and Annie close one week, w/his secret about the reporter, and dropping the ball the next week as if they had become 2 different people.
He should remain as she should remain, their most trusted confidantes. Romantically we are far from that place right now, which I like. But if the show stays on, probably way down the road. I just hope the writers have heard us and put Auggie more front and center; he really changed this show for me. He is a great actor, and he offsets Piper P. who can be a bit vanilla sometimes, quite well.

I just had to quote you 🙂 I completely agree with you! He is a great actor, sometimes I get the feeling he is the main reason the show was a big hit. Don’t forget, Communication Breakdown was the highest rated of all episodes. And yes, Piper cannot measure to him, sorry to say. Sadly, I expected this. Don’t want to be mean…but that’s just how it is. I better shut up :p
I agree, the Auggie character needs to be up front more and not just in the background. He has become the favorite character of the show, even though it is Annie that the show revolves around.
I love love Auggie and Annie…throwing Jai in is “OK” but am afraid it is going to lose story line and go in different direction…I am NOT fan of BEN Mercer and hope this goes away on it’s own..hopefully they don’t mess with success and that success has happened with Annie and Auggie from the beginning, it needs to be kept real..I can’t wait for the first show and will be watching every week for sure….
