When the DPD gets word of an incoming shipment from Sudanese arms dealer Hasaan Waleed, Annie is sent to enlist Christopher McAuley, a former CIA operative who may hold the key to finding Hasaan. However, there are others showing an interest in the case, including former Director of Clandestine Services, Henry Wilcox, and, for reasons unknown, Ben Mercer. It looks like our girl Annie is going to have to try and save the day….again.

McAuley has had many operatives try and bring him in, according to Auggie, with no success, but they have given the job to Annie this time. Our cool chick just stood there so calmly until they gave the assignment to her. Loved how Annie did that.
Henry Wilcox(Gregory Itzin) shows up at HQ and we learn he is not liked. He ran the darkest ops since the cold war, according to our man Auggie. We also learn that Henry had a asset in India that he ended up marrying (and becoming Jai’s mom) but then left her for a younger woman. All this being told by Auggie, while Jai comes up behind him and makes for an awkward moment. This was a funny scene as Annie gives him a stiletto to the shin. God, how I love the ease of the scenes with Auggie and Annie and now, even with Jai.

Jai does a bit of flirting with Annie and asks her to go for drinks at the tavern. She asks if he is asking her on a date, in which he says…”you will know when I ask you out on a date.” The flirting wars have begun! Who will win…Auggie in this corner, with his sly humor and adorableness? Or Jai in this corner, with his classic good looks and well known family?

So Annie heads out and finds Mac (McAuley)(Eriq Lasalle) but he wants no part of coming in and helping them find out what ship the arms dealer ( Waleed)is coming in on. Annie does her thing by connecting in some small way , like she always does. But he still doesn’t come in.

Meanwhile we see our ol buddy Ben Mercer in Sudan looking for Waleed. He gets in a scuffle with one of the henchman and kills him. What is this man up too? How is he involved in this mess?

At the bar/restaurant we have Annie and Auggie (all say “awe…”) and Aug is a bit perturbed that Annie hasn’t reacted to anything he has said since Jai and Papa Bear have walked in. She tells him that Mac said she needs to talk to Papa (H Wilcox). Loved this …Auggie is feeling a bit slighted that she is going to leave him all alone. She tells him that a girl will be in her seat before she reaches the bar…and there is. But did anyone else notice that Auggie wasn’t all smiles when the gal sat down? I think he was a bit bummed Annie left him.
So Annie has a few drinks with old man Wilcox , while Jai sits sulking in the background. Wilcox says everyone gets dirty in this business. People only leave for money or for love.
Annie looks over information on Mac and finds something interesting …and old girlfriend. She meets up with Auggie in my favorite scene, and asks him if this job is worth it. She wonders just how dirty she has to get in this business. I love the scenes with these two. Gorham and Perabo have such screen chemistry and the scenes flow easily.

Annie goes back to Mac’s house and brings up Vanessa Sinclair who worked for H W with the dark ops. He loved her and she died in Sudan…Waleed killed her. Annie tells him that Waleed is the arms dealer that is coming to the US. She convinces him to come in and talk to his old contacts.
His contact in in NY and wants Annie to go, Jai goes too. Unfortunately the $250k gets whittled down to $100k , it’s a recession, remember?

Henry and Arthur have a talk. HW wants Art to use Waleed and not jail him. He tells him “There are some stories that will do nobody any good to have out in the open.” What are you up to you sneaky bastard?

Back in NY: Annie , Jai and Mac wait for the contact. When Mac goes in by himself ( hello, suspicious?) Annie and Jai talk. They quite easily talk with each other and he does his usual flirting. Mac comes back and says the contact wasn’t buying and gives back the case. Suspicious Annie opens the case and the money is gone, and so is Mac! They head for the contacts bldg and get info out of him that he told Mac. They head for the shipyard!

Joan has the arms dealer 1 hr away with FBI task force waiting for the go-ahead. Art tells her he is doing this without FBI help. She is like…WTH? But mums the word with Art.

Annie catches up with Mac and we learn Waleed got his start with CIA money and CIA weapons. Vanessa worked with getting him the items and then he killed her. But we still kept working with Waleed, until he turned on us. Annie convinces him to put down the gun.
Just then Joan gives the order to the ops guys to take Waleed (alive) when a shot rings out and Waleed takes a nosedive to the pavement. Can you guess who the shooter is? Ben Mercer. Then Ben does some fancy footwork getting off the boat and soon finds himself not 20 ft from Annie and she doesn’t even see the guy. But let me say this, the look on Ben’s face when he see’s Annie is like …holy crap! Jai spots him and there is a short look of “hey, I know you” and then he takes off in a chase through the shipyard. In the end, Ben pulls a gun (Jai has none…did you know CIA does not carry weapons?) and gets away, but not without another couple seconds of recognition between the 2.

Annie looks at the weapons and sees that they are American…she is frustrated.

Back at HQ: Arthur gives dedication speech about openness and honesty, and blah blah blah….and dedicates the office to Henry Wilcox. Auggie is a bit bored by the whole thing and makes a comment about Jai, but Annie defends him and tells Au that she feels he is just trying to find his place in the agency. Aug is surpised.

Joan and Art talk and he clues her in: Waleed was an asset feeding info in exchange for money and supplies. Both with CIA support and then he turned on us. Operative Vanessa was sent in and he killed her. Terrorist cell starts. Both, Joan & Art were with the agency then, even though it was under Wilcox regime. If this got out , there would have been huge scandle.

So what is Ben up to? Is he a rogue agent from Wilcox’s days? He knows Jai, and spared his life…why? Friends? Now Ben knows Annie tuned into a agent…now what? Maybe contact her and try to work with her ..if he is a good guy? Jai flirting with Annie…like or not? Love the scenes with Auggie and Annie as much as me? I think Gorham has really found a perfect character for himself…love !

  1. Anne says:

I think Ben already knew she was an agent. There was the car chase, him sitting in front of her house and when he saved her in the subway. Believe me, he knew. I am anxious for them to come in contact though, so her heart can get over him, or they can be together. All this stuff with him just showing up and the CIA using her is getting annoying!!

  2. Cris says:

Anne is right, get him in already! 🙂 Let’s see what happens! And as for Annie and Auggie in the same scenes, you’re right, I can’t stop myself from smiling every time I see them together, something NEEDS to happen there sometime too 😉 LOL

  3. Karen says:

Then why did Ben have the look on his face when he spotted her? I don’t think he will be coming in anytime soon… We have to syrtch it out and find out his back story first

    • Jim says:

He knows she’s an agent. He was just surprised she was there…which begs the question: Why was HE there? Who is he working for?

      • Karen says:

My guess is he was burned by either Wilcox or Campbel. He wanted Waleed dead cuz Wilcox didn’t do it before. I also guess he will eventually contact Annie & when he does , she will find out she is being used as pawn
