Remember Stella? You know, the one who left Ted at the altar for her ex and moved to California? Yah, her. Well she’s back – sorta. What does “sorta” mean? Well, “The Wedding Bride” is a movie made by her ex-turned-no-longer-ex, Tony … and it’s all about Ted and Stella’s relationship, as told by Tony.

Ted finds out the hard way when he takes a date to see it. The real story behind “The Wedding Bride” is his emotional baggage so what is everyone else’s?

Our lovely Future Ted (aka Bob Saget) is telling future Ted’s kids about dating and how everyone has baggage. No matter what, everyone has it. He tells them about a new girl he’s dating (the CBS go-to-girl Judy Greer) and how great she is right now but things will go south once he finds out what her baggage is. Barney says that “emotional baggage is the bedrock of America’s most important cultural export…porn…only women with major baggage go into porn.” (And a throwback to old school Robin and Ted with a “Major Porn” mid-convo! YAY!) They discuss each other’s baggage. First up? Marshall. He’s too nice. To a fault. There’s a funny scene of him walking down the street, which he calls normal but Barney says it’s only normal on a street “where a giant yellow bird lives.” Barney gives Ted a list of good emotional baggage and every time he thinks she’s got one on the list, she is mid sip-of-wine (i.e. “I work in porn … Parents Offering Recreation and Nutrition…”). There’s several of these I won’t bother listing, but eventually Ted catches on to her mid-sipping non-baggage list. So they go to the movies to see “The Wedding Bride” and Ted says “oh no!” It’s by Stella’s ex, Tony! Lily and Marshall show up to meet Robin late and Lily explains that Marshall was being so nice, he accidentally helped people rob someone’s apartment! It doesn’t matter what they do, he’s not gonna change … after all, his high school mascot was a hug! Ted gets to the bar and tells the gang that “The Wedding Bride” is about him.

Ted explains to them that instead of Tony being the bad guy and Ted being the good guy Tony has written Ted as a horrible guy (who wears horrible cowboy boots and says “no can-dooseville babydoll”) and Tony as the loveable (and taller) guy. Ted tells them how the movie portrays events that really happened (like his sweet proposal and the two-minute date). The ending of the movie is the worst part (“Jed” even calls himself Ted). Royce, Ted’s date, wants to know why Ted said “oh no” and the gang tells him to tell Royce the truth. He says no way. He takes the gang to see the movie and Royce wants to see it again but first goes on and on about how great the movie is and how horrible Jed is and how he deserves to be alone. Ted freaks out and tells her (and her two friends they’re with) that the movie sucks and they suck for liking it. So much for telling the truth! Ugh, he even tells her “no can-dooseville babydoll” when she tells him to apologize.

The gang is talking about what Ted did to Royce and Marshall tells everyone he is the nice guy because Ted taught him to be that way and to not care about baggage. He gives him a pep talk to go get the girl (and not sure if anyone else noticed this, but the same music from the end of “Love Actually” is playing during this … I love that movie …). Ted gets to the movie theatre where Royce is watching “The Wedding Bride” and gives her a speech similar to what Tony says in the movie to Stella right there in front of everyone and admits the movie is about him. It’s actually a really cute scene and he tells her that he’s still getting over everything and she offers to help him. Future Ted tells the kids that baggage is a part of life but it feels lighter if you have someone with you to help you lift it (something like that…I was too busy laughing at the fact that in the final scene, when everyone in the street has baggage, one says “Cubs Fan.” Hilarious!).

Royce tells Ted all her baggage finally … engaged three times, left at the altar, lost all her fiances money gambling, shares a studio with her brother. Ted tells her it’s time to go!

So this was the second-to-last episode of the season. It was funny and I loved “The Wedding Bride” scenes. They even had a great cast for the “movie.” My only question is … where was Don? I thought Robin wasn’t going to be hanging out with the gang much? Yet she was with them every time they went out (even to the movie). Hm. Can’t wait to see what happens next week! Considering it’s called “Doppelgangers” and the info says it’s about Marshall and Lily deciding if it’s time to have a baby, I’m going to assume it’s gonna be legend….ARY! What do you think? As a life long Cubs fan (who was at their winning game on Sunday), it’s not considered baggage unless you live on the Southside. 🙂
