But what about a show that is already been on for a season and has plans to change its name upon the return for its second season? In all my television-watching years, I’ve never heard of such a thing. Until today.
Cougar Town, the new hit ABC show starring Courtney Cox, will be returning for a second season but according to reports, will have a new title. I’ve never heard of such a thing, but considering her character no longer plays a cougar, and there was outrage before the show started over the title, I can understand it. One of the new titles being thrown around is “Friends and Neighbors.” Sure, the “Friends” part of it is ironic (if you’re a Courtney fan), but it’s a title that makes sense.
But how does that work? “Premiering next week, the show formerly known as Cougar Town.” I can’t imagine that. How does that transition work? Will the change help or hurt the show? Leave your two cents below!

‘Cougar Town’ sounds mean, viscous and bitchy … I have to admit I never really watched the show so I don’t know really if that title and the implication I am making with it is correct but ‘Friends and Neighbors’ sounds nice and sweet and innocent.
Well the show started out being about a woman in her 40s finding her place after a divorce and dating younger men (and she has a hilarious cougar-type friend that does it still, although we never actually SEE her date younger men, she just has one-liners talking about it). It has since become nothing like that..it probably lasted three episodes? It almost feels like Cougar Town is just a name of the city they live in. LOL.
It’s a quite funny show … it has good stories about friendships, life, parenting and all different types of bonds people have in different stages of life. All wrapped up in a half hour sitcom.
I just wonder if they’ll lose their viewers because they won’t know it’s the same show.
It’s strange indeed to change the name of a show, like it wasn’t completely thought through.
It’s weird.
I think putting Friends in the title of a Courtney Cox show is stretching for fans…
I agree. But it’s actually a good title for the show. Although I like one of the suggestions to incorporate their names…like Family Jules (although that’s not gonna fly) or Cobb Values or whatever it was. Using Friends won’t be cool.
