Last night the stars performed two individual routines for the first time. Some did great, some not so much. At the top of the leader board was Nicole with a total of 59 points. At the bottom was Niecy with 45.
No results were announced in the beginning of the show, so all the stars had to sweat it out for a little while before finding out who has danced their last dance. So who was it?
Len gave his rundown of the night before and he called Niecy and Chad the “pretenders” of the competition. Ouch.
The encore dance went to Nicole and Derek’s 50s Paso Doble. Len actually called it the dance of the night as well as the dance of all 10 seasons. Wow!
Musical guests were the Gipsy Kings. The first song was “You Got a Friend in me’ in Spanish from Toy Story 3. I think I liked the original English version better. This was Disney’s chance to plug Toy Story 3 because the Paso that the stars performed tonight was created by Tony Dovolani and Cheryl Burke for the movie.
Kenny Mayne and Jerry Rice were back to do their DanceCenter bit with Len. Jerry was wearing a very weird blonde wig that was never explained and he didn’t really say much during the segments. This was not as funny as it has been in the past. Perhaps the bit is getting old.
Instead of Macy’s Stars of Dance, we have the College Dance Championship. Dance teams from different universities are competing for the next couple weeks. Tonight pitted the University of California San Diego against Purdue University. The judges critiqued their dances and the audience will get a chance to vote for which team they want to compete again.
UCSD started out with the Samba – I thought it was very boring. The judges liked the patterns they did as a group but all said their lines were not very good. Their scores: Carrie Ann: 8; Len: 8; Bruno: 8.
Purdue’s Samba was not much more exciting. I thought Samba was supposed to be the Carnival dance – wild and fun. Oh well. The judges all said they needed to do more patterns. Score: Carrie Ann: 8; Len: 7; Bruno: 7. The judges may have liked UCSD better, but I’m a Big 10 girl so my vote goes to Purdue.
Chad and Cheryl ended up in the bottom two for the first time. Joining them were Niecy and Louis. It was the end of the road for Niecy. It is as it should be but I am awfully sorry to see her go. She was such a joy to watch. Next week is the semi-finals – can’t wait! Leave me your two cents!
