“It’s not just a puzzle, it’s a puzzle for a million dollars.” – Michael
First off, many thanks to Rachel for covering for me when the last episode aired. I was having my own little Amazing Race, trying to make it home from a road trip and when I got home midway through the episode, my DVR had reached 100% and watching the episode was a lost cause.
Kind of like Carol and Brandy’s chances against Little Miss Teen Queen, who thinks she is so great (“I’m so proud of myself…I’m showing the haters what I’m capable of.”). All she is capable of is being a puppet. Let’s see what she does this week and for who.
The Top 4 Things I Learned From The Amazing Race 16
1. Jet and Cord (brothers/cowboys): What?! WHAT! One of them has a wife and a kid and one has a fiance?! I definitely didn’t expect that! Anyway, although not first at the road block, they figured out the trick to making the noodles (using flour). Jet stayed calmed and finished the road block first. The fashion detour was not exactly up their alley but it made for some funny quotes. In what I can only call Wizard of Oz-like fate, a gust of wind comes through the stadium and begins to blow away the gigantic puzzle pieces. Cord decides that laying down on the pieces will help them from flying away. But if he lays on them, that means he can’t finish the puzzle. *head-palm* However he did it, laying, crawling, roping something, he stayed calm and they got their clue first. Their tranquility gets them to the mat first and win a trip to Alaska.
2. Caite and Brent (dating/Team Miss Teen SC): Caite prides herself on being the last woman standing, but I really wouldn’t call her a woman. I decided to create a game while watching this episode: take a shot of tequila every time Caite says “like.” Wait, you might die from alcohol poisoning, so don’t. Caite, who arrived first, got frustrated (as usual) with the road block and kept yelling at Brent (that’s new…) to shut up, no matter what he said. She finally finished second and left. A fashion detour and a beauty queen…perfect match! Brent does the puzzle road block, and Caite of course has to whine about something (“aw dang, I wish I had done this – I love puzzles!”). Ok, it doesn’t matter if you love them, are you good at them? Brent threw a hissy fit when the pieces flew away, throwing him off but he eventually got it all together. They hit the mat second and roll their eyes. Not sure why, but okay. Over them.
3. Dan and Jordan (brothers): I missed these guys finishing first in the last leg, which bums me out. They are smart and realize Caite u-turned Carole and Brandy because of personal reasons instead of game-play and fear the stronger teams (like the cowboys) that are left. The brothers are jealous of Jet’s “magical hands” and whatever control they have. It’s called tranquility, weren’t you listening? HA. Poor Dan was all alone at the road block and couldn’t get a method to finish the task – until his brother gave him a hug. 1-2-3…AW! At the detour, Jordan takes over, as Michael said, because “it was his element.” At the second road block, Jordan’s method was “corners first, then frame, then middle.” That’s how I do a puzzle so I like the method. Jordan finishes before Michael and gets his clue while Michael is going insane. They hit the mat third.
4. Louie and Michael (friends/undercover cops): Their cab driver, once they land in China, works together with the brothers’ driver – and they both are confused as to where to go. Louie, who takes the road block because he used to help make his mom make spaghetti, doesn’t realize there’s a difference between Chinese noodles and pasta, but still uses an Italian accent to amuse us. They might get frustrated, but they have fun to keep their calm. At the detour, the ‘Stache bros and the brothers realize their girls are wearing the other’s stockings. When the girls go to switch, the ‘Stache bros’ model comes out first. Michael wants to have a shooting challenge because he’s good at stuff like that. Michael got thrown off by a star in the puzzle which slowed him down. He is upset that he is being kept down by this puzzle – he just can’t get it. The lights come on in the stadium and Michael finally finishes the puzzle. :Crossing my fingers for a non-elimination.: Under the night sky, they get to Phil fourth. AND ARE SAFE!!!!! IT’S A NON-ELIMINATION!!!! (Okay, I’m totally crying….) I may make fun of their mustaches and their weird nuances, but dangit if I don’t love these guys and think they can win it all!!
Next week, Dan and Jordan lose their cool over a bad cab driver and Caite doesn’t like being approached to buy things while everyone fights for their spot in the top three.
Okay so what if I’m a bit emotional, sue me. I can’t believe we’re almost at the end. I can’t even remember some of the teams we lost. But I do have feelings about the teams we have. If Louie and Michael get through their Speed Bump in the next leg, you bet your you-know-what they will be in the lead of the pack going for that million bucks. How bad did you feel for Michael during that puzzle? They really did win me over throughout the season. Sure, the sound of their voices make me think of the Red Sox (Go Yankees!) and I want to shave their mustaches, but they have run a good race. In the end, it’s only about them and the cowboys, who truly do have tranquility no matter what situation they are put in. What did you think? Leave your two cents below.

I thought it was great when Dan hugged Jordan (or whichever way it went). A few legs ago he would have yelled at him for going slow, but he learned how to related to him better!
