I thought this final elimination would be sooo boring. And up until the final moments, it was playing out just like I thought it would.
Then bam! Ryan pulls a shocking elimination. And all 16 contestants ended up in tears.
But they weren’t crying over the group number, “Haven’t Met You Yet.” The pre-recorded track was so auto-tuned that the contestants sounded like the Brady Bunch. This is not what Michael Buble had in mind when he recorded that song, not at all.
The first contestant to be eliminated was Katelyn Epperling over Paige Miller. I thought Paige was a goner after a weak week, but she has the superior voice. Then it was Todrick Hall vs. Lee Dewyze and Todrick’s departure caused several other contestants to tear up. When Alex Lambert was eliminated, the entire group started crying and hugging him.
Then it came down to Katie Stevens and Lilly Scott, it seemed like a no brainer. Lilly has turned in excellent performances, show artistry and has a unique sound. Katie has a rich tone, but can’t hit every note and doesn’t have a clear sense of who she is. When Lilly was the one eliminated, the tears started at my house.
So the final six women are Didi Benami, Siohban Magnus, Paige Miller, Crystal Bowersox, Lacey Brown and Katie Stevens. The final six men are Casey James, Tim Urban (!), Lee Dewyze, Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly (another shocker, no matter how much I love his voice) and Andrew Garcia.
Also on the Idol stage, S8 contestants Matt Giraud and Scott McIntyre performed Billy Joel’s “Tell Her About It” on dueling pianos. Matt showed why he was a huge favorite last year while Scott proved once again why he was eliminated first by being just a touch off on the notes and a little behind on the rhythm. Matt also touted his new single with Anna Wilson; (Did you notice his new hairdo? It covered the large mole on his forehead.)
So next week starts the finals. The first theme night is the Rolling Stones. Are you excited? Did your favorite get eliminated? Did you think all the finalists were worthy? It time for you to sound off. Give us your Two Cents…

Forgot to mention — did you see Crystal Bowersox face throughout the show? Mad, sad and a bit despondent. This girl is honest, but I hope that doesn’t turn voters off. I also am still a bit worried about her health. She moved gingerly. I still think she can be the winner, but she does have to watch her attitude. Last night, she reflected what many people were feeling, but if she remains sully and distant, it could turn voters against her (she already doesn’t smile much because of her teeth — the result of her diabetes).
Boy, Following, AI all these years, not too sure, what to think about this years contestants
I totally agree. I think this is a far weaker year that the last two. Or were we spoiled by two years of excellent talent, where even the 5th and 6th place finishers got recording contracts?
