This week’s Modern Family was filled with lies, deceit, and then finally, the inevitable truth. Each character brings in their own form of comedy, and without each of them, the show wouldn’t be anywhere near as funny as it is. Let’s take a look at this episode.

Phil and Claire are in a funk. Phil is getting Facebook messages from an old girlfriend, and Claire is extremely jealous of it. He has made plans with Denise and this is NOT okay with Claire.

She suggests that Phil invite her to their house to prove that nothing was going to happen between them. Meanwhile, Luke was throwing punches at Alex all night, and she couldn’t figure out how to get back at her. Then, she comes up with the cleverest thing ever (and I say this because my sister and I use the same thing on my brother). She decides to tell him that he’s adopted and this woman is his real mother. When she arrives at the house, Luke is seriously freaked out about Denise being his real mother. After Claire meets her, she likes her. Phil is happy that they are getting along, but then, Denise gives him a copy of her room key and tells him to come over for some fun. Phil freaks out at this, and tries to tell Claire, who won’t listen. Then, she’s looking through some of Denise’s old photos and realizes that Phil had overlapped the two of them when he first met her. This was a wonderful representation of family life.

Mitchell and Cameron are getting ready to take Lilly to the park, and on their way out the door, Mitchell gets a call from the office. He’s told to go into work; and again, misses another milestone in Lilly’s life. While being upset, he talks about how much he hates his boss, who may have heard him in the car next to his. Mitchell and Cameron do a funny reenactment of the event, and are still unsure if his boss had heard him. Mitchell ends up quitting his job in bursts of excitement and panic. It’s definitely an exciting step in his life.

Jay, Gloria, and Manny are going through something else. Manny doesn’t get the lead in his school play, and to cheer him up, Jay gets him a poster that says, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” Manny didn’t like the poster, but Jay attempted to put it up on his way anyway. In that process, it ends up falling into Manny’s turtle cage, killing the turtle. Jay tells him that a raccoon had snuck into his room and grabbed his turtle in a death grip. Gloria knew that Jay was lying, but it wasn’t for another few days that Jay came clean. When he finally did, I saw a glimpse of further respect between the two of them. I think they truly love each other now.

I loved this episode! My sister even watched it, and she doesn’t have Modern Family on her list of shows…and she even loved it! What did you all think? Leave your TwoCents in the comments.
