The Good Wife has always existed along two parallel storylines — the law office and the home. This week, I’m not sure which was the more exciting one.
At the beginning, Alicia is pulled off a murder case when she and Cary only have one month and eight days to go in their competition. They are defending the supposed murderer but the victim was really the victimizer.
Seems Miles Wagner is a mutual funds manager who fed clients into the Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme – so here are plenty of other suspects than his body guard, whose gun matches the fatal wound.
Diane has to get a new ballistics expert and comes up with Kurt McVeigh (Gary Cole), a Marlboro man, who proves the killing happened in a car, which is good for the client. He also banters with Diane in a witty way that seems to strip some of her defenses. (And perhaps later some of her inhibitions? We’ll see.) Meanwhile, Cary gets to do a cross defense of a drunk, porno starring Santa that’s hilarious (is it sick to want to see Santa reduced to a quivering mess?).
And when Alicia confronts Diane about pulling her off the case, Diane says it was Will. When Alicia faces him, it’s obvious that he’s feeling more than a wee bit jealous that Peter is back home. My, my, my. The chemistry and not-so-subtle subtext is lethal. “I want to be here,” says Alicia meaning something completely different. “I want you to be here, too,” replies Will with big bedroom eyes. Quick, I have to turn on the AC. Ah, that’s better.
With Alicia back on the case, she uncovers a way to put the partner’s wife on the stand that wins the case. Of course.
On the home front, we ended last week with Peter’s arrival at the door. Now he has a heartfelt reunion with the kids and an awkward one with Alicia. Soon, it’s obvious that he’s bored, which is when his son Zach shows him the doctored photo and Peter cries “war!” by bringing in kick-ass campaign manager Eli Gold, the ever-delicious Alan Cumming (boy, do they get great guest stars on this show).
What Gold discovers is that Zach’s pic of the apartment door reveals a federal investigator. Why is Peter under federal investigation? Then Kalinda is offered a job with the Feds (and perhaps some hot sex with the female investigator) if she’ll tell on Peter. She declines in the biting manner that we’ve come to love about Kalinda.
At the end, Peter tells Alicia about Zach covering up receiving the photos and when she breaks down, he comforts her. They’ll deal with it, he says. And suddenly we see the husband and father that he once was, and why — perhaps — things have gone no further than subtext with Will.
We’re you shocked that Kalinda got a proposition from a woman? What kind of new trouble is Peter in now? And we’re you waiting for Will to just grab Alicia and plant a big one on her pucker? Give us your Two Cents…

i thought Diane was gonna jump McVeigh!
The Will/Alicia scene was so hot. Lol at Will’s bedroom eyes. They were both giving some hot looks not mention the double meaning dialogue.
No I wasn’t shocked that that woman came on to Kalinda. I thought it was pretty much canon that Kalinda was at least bi and that same agent seemed to have history with Kalinda the last time we saw her.
I agree about the great guest stars but I rolled my eyes a little at Peter being under federal investigation too. It seems like they’re layering it on a little thick at this point.
There are very few television shows I watch and “The Good Wife” is one of them. I hope they don’t go the way of “The West Wing” and “Boston Legal”, which I stopped watching after they starting inserting political views into the show, which very soon after led to low rating and the shows being canceled. I enjoy “The Good Wife” and would hate to see it end the same way.
