This show is the perfect source of comic relief for the middle of the week! I laughed the whole time. It must be a mixture of the actors, characters, and storylines, but whatever it is; ABC did it right this time around.

Gloria and Jay are celebrating Valentine’s Day together in a comedy show featuring David Brenner, a famous Vegas comedian. Gloria wanted to go Salsa Dancing instead; since she thought it was more romantic. Reluctantly, she goes with Jay to the show, and ends up truly enjoying it. However, Jay does not. David Brenner begins to poke fun at Jay for his age, making the observation that he’s with a woman like Gloria. At first, he finds it funny, but then gets incredibly annoyed. Gloria goes to comfort him, and we find out that Jay is somewhat insecure that Gloria will leave him once he gets older. She assures him that she will never do such a thing, as long as he promises to love her even if she gets fat. It’s heartwarming, and makes me love their relationship even more. They leave the comedy show and go Salsa Dancing. One more thing happens with them, but I’ll wait to tell you about that…

While Cameron works very hard to make Valentine’s Day perfect for Mitchell, Mitchell is busy working on one of the most important career points of his life. It turns out to not go the way Mitchell plans, and his Valentine’s Day looks grim. Manny joins them for the evening, and he’s depressed since the girl (Fiona) he wrote a love poem for is on a date with someone else. This other guy (Dirkus) had taken credit for the poem Manny had written. They end up going to the restaurant where Fiona and Dirkus are on a date. Cameron creates a plan to get Manny and Fiona together, and distracts Dirkus with a phone survey. Manny tries to win back Fiona, but it’s not working. Mitchell makes one final attempt, but using the speech he intended to use for his job, and giving it to the entire restaurant. It was dramatic, wonderful, and in the end, didn’t make a difference. I still loved it.

Claire and Phil realize that Haley’s boyfriend has outdone them with this one Valentine’s Day versus every Valentine’s Day they’ve ever spent together. Claire comes up with an idea to role play in a hotel bar. Phil arrives with a name badge that says “Clive Bixby” and Claire decides to go by the name of “Juliana.” Things are going well, with the exception of Phil’s awkwardness in the situation. In the end, it works and Claire takes off all her clothes, and puts on a trench coat. They’re on their way up the escalator, and her coat gets stuck. Phil is able to stop the stairs from moving, but everyone they know show up to try to help them. Then, it gets good! Guess who they run into? JAY AND GLORIA! They find out that Claire is naked under her jacket, and Gloria helps her change into a different one, revealing that it has happened to her before. This was hilarious and so well written.

In the end, everyone was satisfied with their Valentine’s Day, and the common tie between each of these characters is unconditional love. What did you think of this episode? Leave your TwoCents in the comments!

I completely lost it when Claire got stuck in the escalator, and before that when Phil came back in the house to say “Don’t worry Claire, I just train tigers.”
