Prison Break Video Game

Prison Break: The Conspiracy
Video Game is set for 2010 Release

I was a little intrigued when I got a Facebook notice today about a video game based on Prison Break. I rushed off an email with the words, “Michael Scofield Lives!”

Just after hitting SEND, the questions started pinging in my head. It’s been… how long since the last episode? And even then, support was waning after a final season that had some ridiculous, if not downright cruel, twists. Does the release even make sense?

When I clicked on the link provided by the company, Deep Silver, there was no connection. I passed it along to some other people, who got the same hang-up. About ten minutes ago, I pulled up deepsilver.com and crossed my fingers.

Ugh.

I think the most disturbing thing I saw was the “Hot Products” section. Apparently, the potential fates of Michael, Linc and the others are now in the hands of the company who brought you “Let’s Play Flight Attendant” and “Let’s Play Ballerina”. Okay, I can deal with the image of Gretchen in a Flight Attendant suit, but I keep getting the disturbing image of Lechero in a tutu.

Reading the synopsis, I find that the game does not feature Michael Scofield or any events at Fox River, the focus of the compelling first season. According to the Facebook page, the story of the game “runs parallel to the first season of “Prison Break” where (Company agent Tom) Paxton encounters several characters from the series and experiences key events from his own perspective as well as some new possibilities.” Apparently, this new central character is pursuing Michael, so fans of the show will have no real investment.

As for the “several characters from the series”, it’s a little tough to determine who they will be. Only one recognizable character is named on IMDB, and it’s Brad Bellick (thankfully, voiced by Wade Williams). The Facebook page mentions Robert Knepper bringing T-Bag into the world of gamers, but can this still be a possibility after his stint on Heroes?

You know… Here’s a new idea for a video game: Everyone develops a series, and you compete to see which one Fox will completely abandon. Best played on Friday nights. Any takers?

I have never been a gamer. And based on what I see here, that’s not about to change.

Check it out for yourself, FB fans…

Are you serious? Did you really do ANY research before printing this ridiculous story?

Prison Break: The Conspiracy is everything us Prison Break fans want. Yes it does run parallel to the first season, and yes you will play as their own character Tom Paxton, however….

The game features most of the characters from Season One and the character renders are BRILLIANT!!!

The game even features the voices from most of the shows actors including that of Robert Knepper who IS in the game and who is also flying to London in conjunction with DeepSilver this month to help promote the game.

Not only does their facebook site contain up to date information regarding the game, so does their twitter page, their personal webpage and at least one UK Prison Break site they are signed up with.

The game DOES feature Michael Scofield, it does take place within the walls of Fox River and includes these original characters:

    Scofield
    Burrows
    T-Bag
    Bellick
    Abruzzi
    Sucre
    C-Note

DeepSilver has also offered fans the chance to win a ticket to meet Robert Knepper one on one when he goes to London to speak about the game.

OK, time for an apology. My word is by no means gospel. I have no problem when people prove me wrong, and as I said above, I do encourage everyone to check it out for themselves. The links are provided.

I wish nothing but good things from Deep Silver. The renders on the Facebook page are very impressive indeed. Thanks for providing the insight on the characters. And yes, meeting Robert Knepper would be cool.

As far as Tom Paxton, it may not be a bad way to go. The show reinvented itself constantly, and the fan fiction that it inspired has been very inventive.

Check the links I provided. Once the game is on the streets, maybe someone can provide some serious feedback.
