Derek is all ready to take over as interim Chief of Surgery. He gives a little speech to all the doctors and nurses and stuff. And it was a little speech. Pretty bad, actually. But he says he wants to “bring Seattle Grace back to its former glory”. The board gives Richard two options: resign and lose your license to practice medicine, or go to rehab get sober and get your job back (pending board approval). He’s already got a situation on his hands while a girl who was being operated was awake (and could feel) but could not talk. Geez. That would uh. suck. Majorly. Sounds like a lawsuit on Derek’s first day! Let’s see how it works out!
There’s a new sheriff in town…
Miranda gives the anesthesiologist who messed up during the surgery an earful which means I have a feeling it won’t end up being his fault. This patient is having issues still but anytime Miranda tries to help her she FLIPS OUT so Meredith has to work on her while Miranda instructs. Derek and Richard have a tiff- that half the hospital witnesses- about him going to rehab or not. And, your writer (ME!) was right- it was not the gasman’s fault. Apparently the patient has some gene that metabolizes the anesthesia hecka fast and that’s why she woke up. LOL I just figured out why this plot line is taking place. This WILL be Miranda’s new love interest. I’m calling it!
The patient needs another surgery. She won’t let Miranda do it but she will let Meredith do it. She’s not really sure if she can handle it. Miranda and the gasman seem to be flirting during the surgery (in fact he is flirting with her…). Miranda goes to talk to Richard and my guess is she’ll talk him into going to rehab so he can get better and be the man she knows he can be.
Derek apologies to the patient (per Miranda’s advice), and to the staff, and he re-hires two of the former layoffs.
Love, etcetera…
Lexi tries to talk to Mark… and he is literally ignoring her. So she goes to Callie to get advice on the situation. We find out Mark slept with Addison multiple times in LA? Ugh, so lucky!!!! Yang and Owen seem to be having a lot of issues, too, he basically accuses Yang of not ‘giving him anything’, as in, not opening up to him at all despite his efforts to love her.
Pediatrics…
A kid comes in with abdominal pains. The dad thinks he is faking it. Doesn’t seem to want to shell out the money to take care of his kid. But, to be fair, kids to fake being sick. But not usually to the point where they go to the hospital. Arizona and Alex want to do exploratory surgery to diagnose something complicated but are doubtful cheapy dad will budge for it. Dad reacts as expected and bans any idea of surgery. Alex tries to convince the Dad- and he does a pretty damn good job! The Dad agrees to the exploratory surgery and they don’t find what they were looking for.
They’re explaining to the Dad (who is always yelling) what happened and the kid becomes unstable and Alex has to cut him open and stick his hand into him while the parents are still in there. GROSSSSS!! Owen’s ex and Alex rush the kid to the OR and page Yang while she’s in the middle of some loving with Owen. He asks her to stay. And she stays! Woah, she never stays!! I hope that kid doesn’t die because of it. While Yang is busy the other surgeon insists that Owen’s ex let him be her second set of hands and she agrees. Yang is NOT Happy when she finds out what she missed!
So far Arizona is impressed with Alex in pediatrics. Could be a new fit for him. He seems to like it, too.

Well that was another solid episode, readers, I think! Seems like ABC listened and really turned up the heat this season in response to all the complaints from last season.

You forgot the biggest most importantest (I know it’s not a word) part of the whole episode – Yang’s breakdown to Owen at the end of the episode when she explains why she doesn’t “give him anything.” That was the best Sandra Oh acting I’ve seen probably since the Burke fiasco. It had me in tears. Burke to her is Iraq to Owen and I don’t think he got that until then. How she explained it – Burke taking little pieces of her until she wasn’t her anymore and Owen telling her not to take to the page was like beginning of the that – was right on. Plus, now Owen knows NOT to mess with her and also why she offered him up to Teddy. HUGE part of their relationship. So there ya go, I covered it for ya. 🙂
But agree…solid episode, glad Derek re-hired those people back and now the spoilers I read make sense. Glad we didn’t deal with Izzie and can’t wait to see how Mark deals with Lexie being a hot blond next week!
And yes, in LA, Mark and Addy went at it twice. Once in her office and once in her house, before he rejected her version of the Meredith “love me, choose me” monologue.
Wait, Addison told Mark to stay in LA and be all lovey with her? How does he get Addison AND Lexi to love him? I need Eric Dane’s body. 😀
NONO. MARK said he was gonna stay and be lovey dovey with her but she knew he was in love with Lexie and wanted to live in this fantasy world. And also, don’t forget, Addy and Mark were together once before. They had a child together but she aborted it when she got pg while cheating on Derek. So now that they were both in a place they want kids (he was asking her to help raise his daughter/granddaughter) but she told him to choose this life with her only if he could say he didn’t love Lexie. Do you not read my R&Rs? LOL
I don’t read R&R’s for shows I don’t watch, silly. LOL. Otherwise I’d never get ANY work done!!!

If you wanna know the nitty gritty about Mark and Addy, just read the crossover one. It goes into more detail. But M&A have big long history. Mark, Addy, Derek, Sam & Naomi (PP) all went to med school together and Addy and Derek were together and Sam and Naomi and Mark I think had a wife at some point but he was single when Addy cheated on Derek with him. That’s how Derek got to Seattle, then Addy followed him when he was dating Meredith. Then Mark followed Addy and they had their love square. Now it’s moved over to PP because Addy is in love with Sam, who is now divorced from Naomi and when she did the deed with Mark, he walked in on them.
Wow, I need a life. LOL
