Operation Awesome starts in right where the last episode ended. Awesome has been kidnapped by The Ring. It seems Ring agent Sydney Prince (Angie Harmon) has the wrong guy. She thinks Awesome (should I just start calling him Devon now that he’s become integrated into Chuck’s spy life?) is the super secret government agent. She’s trying to recruit him for the Ring.
Over in the B-story, Morgan is made the new assistant manager (Ass Man) by Big Mike – back after the untimely passing of Buster Milbarge. Chuck is freaking out about Awesome and he flashes and tells off a Japanese customer in her native language. Then Lester starts in on Chuck and he can’t control his flash that sends Lester flying across the store after a Chuck roundhouse kick. Boom. Boom. Pow! Just then Devon runs into the store to tell Chuck they released him, but they think that he is the spy. At the Castle, Casey thinks The Ring has made a completely understandable mistake, “One of them looks like a spy, the other looks like Chuck.”
Chuck’s protests but General Grandma insists on using Awesome as bait to nail Sydney Prince. Awesome goes home and tells Ellie some horrible story about where he’s been and Casey is the comic foil when Chuck and Awesome share the story about how they had to rescue the drunk, naked Casey from the police station.
Some time later, the Spy Gang are preparing for Operation Awesome and Chuck insists he be Devon’s handler. Awesome shows up with one of those cool Ring smartphones we saw last time. This time there’s a Bluetooth with it that doesn’t turn out to be so awesome. It’s an explosive device that Prince has activated in order to get Awesome to follow her instructions. If he tries to remove the device it will kill him.
Devon is instructed to go to Crystal Towers on the 12th floor and wait for further instructions. Chuck goes with him and helps to disable a security guard before leading his brother-in-law/bomb up to the 12th floor. Along the way, Chuck has to flash and use his marksman skills to take out some operatives, but they eventually make it to the target office where Sydney tells Devon to cut out one of the disabled guard’s eyes to use for the retina scan. Luckily, Chuck is there, so the two hoist the unconscious guard up to the scanner and are able to access the room to find they are in a CIA office.
Sydney tells Devon to find and kill the agent inside. Of course, Chuck then loses contact with Casey and Sarah, who are waiting in the van. Hey, somebody has to do it. General Grandma puts the team on lockdown. Inside the office, Chuck and Devon find a giant cutout of Superman. No wait, it’s the REAL Superman, but he must have taken a Kryptonite enema, because he’s just special agent Daniel Shaw. Shaw knows who Devon and Chuck are. He knows Sydney is coming to confirm Devon is joining the Ring so Chuck needs to kill Shaw.
Superman ends up shooting himself since Chuck can’t pull the trigger. But after Sydney comes in to confirm Awesome’s handwork and welcome him to the Ring, Awesome revives him. Back in Castle, the General Grandma explains that Shaw has command over all missions involving the Ring and since Devon is now a mole inside, they can’t pull him out. They decide that they have to kill Sydney to save Devon.
Back in the b-story. Chuck’s kicking Lester in the face has inspired a Buy More fight club. First rule of Buy More fight club: You don’t talk about Buy More fight club. Second rule of Buy More fight club: you have to wear some ridicules sunglasses. Chuck hacks into the Ring smartphone and calls Sydney. He tells her that Devon was just a pawn — Chuck is the spy that actually killed Agent Shaw, and that he is in charge now. He tells Sydney to meet him at the Buy More. When she arrives with her henchmen, Shaw, supervising from Castle, says no one can help Chuck. Casey and Sarah end up turning their guns on Shaw in order to be allowed to save Chuck. They take down the bad guys and Chuck is left in a one-on-one showdown with Sydney but he can’t shoot her – despite the fact that it would save his brother-in-law. Sydney dares him to shoot and a shot rings out, but it was Shaw who fired.
They’ve successfully protected Devon. And to wrap things up and reset, Morgan fires Lester to end the Buy More fight club. He immediately re-hires the now-remorseful Lester and all is right in Buymoria.
