Welcome back to another installment of How I Met Your Mother … a tale of a father telling his children how he met their mother. He sat them down about four years ago and still, we have no clue as to who their mother is. My, how time flies …

Today’s installment begins with Marshall receiving a box from his mother. Since he and Lily got their own place, she’s been sending him things to empty out his old room. While looking through the box, an old lady calls Ted telling him, “the window is open.” Marshall tells him to run and Ted runs out of the building and he tells Lily who tells him to run and he gets to Maggie’s apartment. She has just broken up with her boyfriend. Ted asks her to hang out. Man, Joanna Garcia is so pretty. I wish Priveleged had lasted!

Ted comes to the bar and lets the gang know he “got in the window.” Robin is the only one that doesn’t understand. Maggie was the girl next door and every guy has fallen in love with her. Every time Ted has tried to date her she has been with someone else and when they have broken up she has quickly rebounded. So Ted made a deal with her old lady neighbor to call him as soon as she became single again (“the window” opens) so he can swoop in right away. Ted has a female driver pick her up to take her to the bar to meet him so she can’t meet any guys on the way. Marshall has the box at the bar and takes out a pair of overalls. Barney challenges himself that no one can get laid wearing overalls. As Maggie comes in to the bar, Robin points out that Ted has to teach class. Ted leaves Marshall and Lily in charge of Maggie not coming in contact with a man. Oh, this should be interesting!

Lily and Marshall are guarding Maggie like she’s the Queen of England. And OMG, Barney has the overalls on top of his suit. Wow. I … I just don’t know what to say about it. Ted runs into his class and tries to quickly teach it but his students ask him to stay and teach them. However, he can’t get Maggie off his mind. At the bar, Robin follows Barney around making farm jokes. When Ted slips about Maggie, his students grill him about her and his feelings. His architecture class turns into Psych 101 and it’s pure hilarity. Marshall pulls out a letter from his old self from 1993. Oh, Vanilla Thunder how I love thee. Marshall gets upset and leaves, with Lily assuming he’s gone to quit his job. Uh oh – Maggie has been left alone at the bar! Within 5 seconds, Maggie has a guy – I can’t remember his name because to me, he’s Mike from My Boys! 🙂 Oh, when does that show come back? I miss it. Back at class, Ted’s students tell him to take a chance and tell him he’s ready. When Robin takes “Mike” to a gallery, she leaves Maggie with Barney.

Jim (that’s “Mike’s” actual name) and Robin are at the gallery (erotic dog art? Ew..) and Jim misses Maggie. Robin is trying every trick in the book to get Jim to make out with her. Robin mentions to Jim that Maggie is single and Jim runs off. Ted is running through the streets of New York to get to the bar. Funny moment: Ted running and screams “I hate Barney Stinson!” Random lady replies back “Me too!” Funny stuff. Jim gets to the bar at the same time Ted does. Jim’s been going after her for 5 versus Ted’s 12. Lily finds Marshall who is trying to dunk a basketball on the roof of GNB. She lists off his accomplishments which makes him feel a bit better but he still can’t make the dunk. As Jim, Ted and Barney argue over Maggie, Robin sends her home. Ted gives this super lie of a speech about being single and figuring things out but he makes a break for Maggie’s apartment. The three guys get to Maggie’s place and she’s there with a guy, Adam, whom she grew up next door to and he just moved to town. Ted tells Jim “see ya next time” but there never was. Maggie sends up with Adam forever, her window never opening again. Ted says that’s what he wants and Barney says he just wants to take the overalls off. Ted leaves and an older lady in Maggie’s building calls out to Barney that she likes his overalls. Making sure no one sees, he goes into her place. Ew Barney, ew.

Marshall sits down to write a letter to his 60-year-old self. He asks for a sign that time travel is possible when Lily comes to him with free wings that someone didn’t want because they were too spicy. Sitting across the bar is 60-year-old Marshall who is being apologized to over his hot wings when he tells the waitress he already ate them, much much earlier – and looks at Marshall and Lily.

Overall, I’d say it was an okay episode. I hope we are getting closer to meeting “the mother,” especially now that Ted knows what he wants. I wasn’t a fan of Robin tonight but Barney, oh the overalls and the suit – funny stuff! What did you think? Leave your two cents below!
