Okay, I have a confession to make. I watched the episode already so I know what happens. I won’t let anything spill out yet, but I need to warn you: you will need to tissues. I repeat: GET TISSUES. Now, in the previews from last week, we know that Tommy comes back, Rebecca runs down the beach in her dress, Justin gets cold feet and someone screams “oh my god.” How that all comes together, you have to read to find out. However, considering the title, I had a feeling the wedding didn’t happen. Why? That’s a whole other guess, too. So let’s get to it, shall we?
The whole family is sitting around the television watching the weather channel as a hurricane is hitting Hawaii. Justin suggests canceling/postponing the wedding and is super jumpy. Everyone else has faith it will work out – until the airports close. Justin storms out, clearly frustrated. While this is going out, Holly and Rebecca are at Rebecca’s first sonogram and are super excited. Saul finds Justin who tells him he’s relieved to cancel the wedding because he needs some breathing room. He hasn’t told anyone about school and neither has Saul. While they’re talking, Rebecca shows up, all happy and glowy. As everyone is apologizing, Rebecca tells them her and Holly came up with an idea to get married on the same day but on the beach in Malibu. Everyone starts talking about all the things that need to happen and Justin looks like a deer in the headlights. Scotty is going to do the food, Tommy is going to fly in and Robert is going to officiate! How cute. Back home, Kitty and Robert discuss her test the next day. She is going to have an MRI to see how the tumors have been responding to the chemo. Justin goes to a meeting to talk about what he’s been going through, starting over with being 6 days sober because of the drink he took at his bachelor party. He starts pouring out his feelings about not being ready to be a father and not being ready to be married but that he loves her fiance but wants a way out of it all. When he turns around, David is sitting in the back row. Oh, jeez! Anonymity out the door! David gives him a nice ripping into about believing in himself as a husband and father or get out of it now. I like it when David is on. Even when he’s yelling, he’s got a calming about him.
Simon brings flowers to Nora’s for Paige to use as the flower girl. Nora invites him to the wedding but he says he has to go to Portland for a meeting for his charity/investment fund. He spouts off some information about it and bells start going off in my head to tell Nora to RUN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!!! He needs $100,000 and she offers it to him. Oh goodness, did she not just see what happened to Holly? Simon says to think about it, he’ll have his accountant send over the information but in the meantime he’ll reorganize his day so he can go to the wedding. As they kiss, Tommy comes in – with Elizabeth! YAY!! Aw, such a cutie and what a surprise! Tommy looks a bit stunned to see Nora making out with Simon, but then again, aren’t we all every week? Kitty and Robert are at the doctor, as he texts his people in Washington and then they talk about love and the speech he is going to give at the ceremony. Robert gives her this amazing speech on loving her and man, I’ve been trying my hardest to find it and I can’t. I’ll try again. Justin shows up to his fitting late and Tommy and Kevin are there but the tailor isn’t. Kevin gets to work on fixing the pants while Justin snaps at Kevin for going so slow because he keeps forgetting things and is running around town. Kevin and Tommy are looking at pictures of Elizabeth and lawyer-Kevin comes out instead of brother-Kevin and Tommy tells him that Julia doesn’t know Elizabeth is there. Legally, that’s kidnapping. Why does Tommy always have to mess things up and make me dislike him again right when I’m liking him?
Scotty and Kevin talk pros and cons over the Julia situation and Kevin’s thought process turns to brother versus lawyer side of his brain. He calls Julia to tell her what is going on, considering Elizabeth is old enough to talk she would tell Julia any way. When Kevin goes to Nora’s to talk to Tommy, Nora tells him and Sarah she invited Simon to the wedding. They try to convince her otherwise but she gets upset and they put up a front. Tommy comes in and tells them that Julia sent him an irate e-mail about what he did and tells Kevin to stay out of Elizabeth’s life. Kitty and Robert are waiting for the doctor to call and Kitty’s shoes don’t fit which will be the talk of the wedding so she wants new shoes. The phone rings and Kitty doesn’t want to answer. When the doctor tells her to come in on Monday for her results, we know the results are bad. Kitty asks for the information over the phone and the doctor tells her the tumors aren’t responding and there are more growths. When she hangs up, she lies to Robert and tells him the computers are down and she has to wait until Monday. When Robert refuses that as an answer, Kitty convinces him it’s okay and for them to just focus on the wedding. Justin gets home to Rebecca who can tell something is wrong but Justin won’t tell her what’s going on. Finally, after she refuses to leave without him talking, he tells her he is failing out of school and isn’t happy about the baby and is unsure about getting married. He realizes he forgot to get the rings and goes to get them before the rehearsal dinner at Nora’s while Rebecca is in shock.
Simon shows up at the house and Nora sits him down to give him the check. Don’t do it, Nora! Don’t do it! Simon tries to reject the offer but Nora keeps insisting. He takes the check, but has this sad look on his face. We all know what he’s going to do, but does he have a conscience about it? He even tells her: don’t confuse our relationship with a business investment. Run Nora, Run! The house is all decked out in a Hawaiian theme with leis and candles and fruity drinks. Kitty shows up coughing a lot and Justin doesn’t show up at all. He’s sitting in his jeep in the road somewhere when he hears a screech and runs to help a woman who hit a little boy on his bike. Doctor Justin after all? Back at the house, when the door opens, Julia walks in. Nora is all kinds of happy to see Julia but she is not happy to be there. Julia stands her ground – even to Nora – and wants to take Elizabeth away and fights with Tommy. She takes Elizabeth and Scotty agrees to let them stay with them overnight and will take them to the airport in the morning. Rebecca is convinced Justin isn’t coming because of their fight and announces to the entire family he’s not coming and calls the wedding off.
With the wedding having been called off, Kitty tells Robert to take his trip to DC. Robert was one step ahead of her and already has a flight out in the morning. Scotty and Julia talk about marrying into the Walker family. Since Scotty isn’t a Walker, Julia listens to him. He tells her how much stronger she is than Tommy. She’s got a job, went to Seattle on her own and is living her own life. What does that mean? Scotty says it means maybe it’s time to forgive him. Justin shows up at Holly’s, where Rebecca is. David is yelling at him and Holly is trying to reason with David to let Justin talk to Rebecca. The first thing she sees is the blood and Justin explains helping the little boy and going to the hospital but forgetting his phone. Justin’s doubts aren’t about taking care of her or the baby but taking care of himself and taking care of the little boy made him realize that. Rebecca forgives him and the wedding is on.
At the house the day of the wedding, Justin needs Nora’s help fixing his suit when Nora admits to Justin about being head over heels for Dr. Handsome (Simon). Saul shows up to take Justin to the beach and is also now ordained to officiate the wedding (just don’t tell his Rabbi! HA, funniest line of the night..). The phone rings and Simon calls to tell Nora he’s not coming. Did ya see that coming from two thousand miles away like I did? He tells her he couldn’t reorganize his day and doesn’t know when he’s coming back. All the girls are getting ready together and Kitty calls Robert to tell him the wedding is on and that she loves him. All the men are showing up at the beach when Scotty and Kevin come walking in with Elizabeth. Ok, are you crying yet? Because this is my second time watching it and I’m crying again, even though I know what’s happening. The whole clan is gathering – in slow motion – laughing, playing football, setting up for the wedding, frolicking in the sand and finally Rebecca comes down the stairs with Paige and they run through the sand to get to Justin. Cutest TV wedding entrance ever? Possibly. Saul begins his opening words, “dearly beloved…” And it really is. All the Walkers and Holly and David (no Ryan, though!). Kitty begins reading a poem Justin chose. I had faith in my writers the wedding would be perfect, but Kitty seems unbalanced, stops in the middle of the poem and passes out. She stops breathing and the episode ends. Right there. No wedding, no ambulance heading off into the sunset. Just a lifeless Kitty surrounded by her family (minus Robert) on the beach at her brother’s wedding.
Now, here’s my issue. Because it’s winter hiatus, we don’t get to see what happens for weeks. I need to know what happens! At least Flash Forward gave us a teaser. I was hoping with all hopes at least one show would give me a nice warm winter ending and this one had promise. But oh well. So what will happen? Will Rebecca and Justin ever get married? Will Kitty be okay? When will Nora figure out she got scammed? Leave your two cents below!
Props to Karen for finding me the Robert love speech (well, one of them) I wanted: See, it’s this. It’s just sitting here together, in a waiting room. Both of us trying to pretend we’re not scared, that’s love. Not being able to concentrate on writing a speech about the beauty of love because you’re scared you might lose it and nothing will ever be the same. And realizing that the one place, the ONE place, that you feel most “you” is when you are lying next to her, just breathing.

Here’s a link with Robert’s speech: http://bit.ly/8Kd6zy
I’m so over the character of Tommy. He doesn’t mesh with the other siblings and is so sour. I don’t need any more of him this year.
If the show isn’t picked up for next year, then I think Kitty will die (like Nate on Six Feet Under). If it does come back, no way can they kill off Kitty 🙂
THANK YOU! I’m going to edit my R&R to include it. TEARS!!
I think the problem with Tommy is the writers let Balthazar’s personal life effect the character of Tommy. I remember LOVING Tommy. He was my favorite. Justin was drama, Kevin was the gossip and Tommy was the one who had to prove he could run the family business despite not going to college and live up to the Walker name. He wasn’t a lawyer or a soldier or have an MBA. He had to work for it and he did. Then Balthazar did something stupid and Tommy went down the drain real fast. 😦
I haven’t heard any rumors of B&S doing badly so I don’t foresee Kitty going anywhere…
