Straight from Walton’s Mountain, we bring you Booth’s grandfather, Hank. Ralph Waite was our guest this week, as he played what Booth calls “Pops”. Pops is out of the retirement home after a bit of surgery and slugging a male nurse, and is going to stay with Booth (or as Pops calls him, Shrimp). Pops is the one that raised Booth and his brother when his father walked out on them.

While investigating his case, Booth takes Pops with him to a store that is a lot like our Home Depot. Booth tells him to just stay in the front of the store and he will be right back. As Pops is standing there, a customer approaches him (thinking he is the greeter) and asks where something is. This was quite funny because Pops goes off and starts looking for what the customer needs. Later, Pops finds Booth, but Pops is wearing the orange vest the employees wear and says that they made him the greeter. Booth just rolls his eyes. I have to admit, this was a funny scene.

Later, when Booth, Bones and Pops are at the diner, Booth gets a call and has to leave. Bones tells Pops that Booth is lucky to have him after his father left. Now this is where is gets interesting: We learn from Pops that he saw his son (Booth’s dad) beating Booth when he was small. He told him to get out and never come back and that he didn’t deserve the boys! He raised them himself. Pops then asked Bones to let Booth know when the time comes, and if he needs it, hold him. She agrees. Awe, this was so touching and yet I was quite surprised to learn this.

We learn that Pops is on many medications and Sweets and Bones tell Booth that it won’t be easy to care for him. Booth doesn’t want to hear it; he will take care of him.

Later, B&B have to take Pops to a club (Club Jiggle) to question some people. They find Pops on the dance floor having a good ‘ol time, dancing with the women. Booth enjoys watching him and lets him have some fun. I like Papa Walton!

While Pops is in the apt alone, he tries to cook dinner for B & B and a fire is started and Booth is called. Pops left a towel on the stove, but tries to blame the burners. I think Booth is realizing that this is not going to be easy for him.

Booth knows he has to take time off or take Pops back to the retirement home. But before he can say anything, Pops tells him he is going back to the retirement home.

Booth and Bones take Pops back, but he wants to talk to each of them alone. First he talks to Bones and tells her that she shouldn’t be scared and that everyone needs somebody. She acts like she doesn’t know what he is talking about, but she does.

Next, he talks to Booth. He tells him that everything he needs to know is in his heart. Awe! I just want to hug this old man!

Neither of our couple, tell what he said to them.
