Previously on Gossip Girl, Chuck bought a hotel and started an illegal club inside, Nate’s cousin started a run for Congress and he wanted to leak a fake photo of him to get revenge on the Buckley’s (but Serena got a hold of the scheme first and let the Buckley’s know), Serena lost Carter, Dan is dating an actress, Serena and Blair are fighting and Serena agreed to date an actor (Dan’s girlfriend’s ex). Got it? K.
Chuck’s hotel is hosting Trip, Nate’s cousin’s, campaign/election party. Serena’s boss needs her to use her “in” with Nate to get in the party but since her and Nate are on the outs, it will be kind of hard. “Casey” still isn’t in the credits, so I’m really annoyed to not know if her name is KC or Casey. Chuck has a new suite at the hotel and the Van Der Bilt’s are setting up camp in it during election day. Olivia was on Jimmy Fallon’s show and she apparently said something embarrassing about Dan on it, to the point where some random guy at the dorm calls him “Bathroom Boy.” Blair is mad at Serena because she thinks Serena feels her job is more important than their friendship. When Serena tries to talk things over, Blair won’t have any of it. Blair lets Serena know she’s not on the list for the party and Serena needs to get on it. While Vanessa is shooting a documentary on election day, Nate and Trip walk by as a man is drowning and Trip saves him – while Vanessa is shooting. There’s the little miracle they need to undo the picture damage that was never done thanks to Serena.
Nate’s grandfather is totally playing up the situation and Nate thinks he set it up. Vanessa is excited because her footage is going to be on the news. Serena comes to Nate to beg him to put her and Patrick on the list. When Trip asks her if she’s coming to the party, she says of course, putting Nate in a hard position. Blair is “auditioning” friends since Serena told her she has no friends. OH! It’s Bree Wiliamson from One Life to Live. Any soap fans out there??? Okay, sorry. That’s my favorite soap opera and I love it when my stars make it to primetime. Little J is sick and the whole family is around helping her not feel cooped up when Gossip Girl sends a text about Dan. When Vanessa is going over her footage for the news, she discovers the “drowning man” actually jumped in on his own, proving Nate’s theory right. Serena goes to get Patrick for the party and he is reading the scripts that were thrown in the garbage. He wants to do movies totally opposite than Casey wants him to do. Vanessa meets with Nate to tell him the truth. Instead of telling her he had the same feeling, he asks her to not tell the media the truth. Nate offers to tell Trip and Vanessa goes to the news to give them the video. But before Vanessa can get there, Nate calls them first. Wonder what he has up his sleeve?
Patrick is completely plastered at the party. Serena sees Blair with her new “friend” who seems to know most people at the party. Serena and Blair have a quick competition over who has the most attentive “friend” with them, when Blair sees Patrick “relieving” himself in a plant. Dan comes across the video of Olivia on Jimmy Fallon. At the party, a woman comes up to Vanessa and asks her who she sold the footage to. Vanessa looks completely confused and says she told it to NY1 and the woman tells her she is the woman from NY1. Seems Nate pulled a bait and switch and sent a fake woman to Vanessa (and should we assume he has the tapes now?). Vanessa looks absolutely crushed. After Dan sees the video, he walks out of the apartment wanting to be alone and Jenny realizes she left her computer up. Blair tells Serena about Patrick’s drinking and how she sent him to a hotel room since he was so wasted. We finally see the Jimmy Fallon video: Olivia tells Jimmy that on her first date with Dan, he went to the bathroom and when he came back his shirt was inside out. Supposedly on the way there he walked into a spider web and a spider crawled into his shirt. So Jimmy nicknames him Bathroom Boy. Serena goes to a passed out Patrick and lets it out that Blair’s “friend” is a call girl. OH SNAP! Saw it coming from a mile away but loved that the news came from Patrick. At the end of the night, shortly before the polls are to close, the video of the “drowning” somehow shows up on the news. LOVE IT.
When Nate, Trip and their grandfather talk, he swears it wasn’t him who sent the man to jump in the river. When Trip asks him to apologize, he refuses to, saying it would be a lie. Nate makes this face which makes me believe it was him. Oh Nate, please no. Vanessa comes in to apologize to Nate and lets him know she had to do what was right. Serena walks in on Blair’s “friend” (her name is “Brandeis”) making a deal with a congressman. She thinks Serena is walking in on her deal but Serena assures her she isn’t. Patrick shows up in the lobby drunk and in her underwear. Serena tells Blair that Brandeis is a hooker and she doesn’t believe her and gets jealous. Blair accuses Serena of being just like Brandeis since she’s getting paid to date Patrick. Then Serena pushes Blair into a cake. OOHH.
Now we get to see a really weird music video Leighton Meester made for her upcoming single. Huh?? Ok then …
Nate announces to everyone at the party about the hoax being true and how about Trip had no knowledge of it and that he set it up. Of course, before he did that, he gave a great speech about how standup and heroic and wonderful Trip is. Serena is looking for a drink when Chuck finds her. I love how he says “we’re not kids anymore.” Uh, last time I checked, you were. He tells her to make up with Blair. Olivia goes to Dan to apologize and he admits the spider story wasn’t true. He was so nervous he kept running to the bathroom to dry off the sweat stains. And he left the apartment earlier because he had forgotten it was their anniversary. Despite everything that happened, Trip wins the election – by a landslide. He promises to turn around the Van Der Bilt name and start a new legacy with their name. Serena tries to talk to Blair and she goes on about she ha college and a relationship and she’s growing up but Serena is just growing apart from people in her life. Blair tells her their friendship is over.
Blair sees Brandeis and apologizes for Serena calling her a prostitute. Brandeis admits the truth, but that she also is a student. Blair still wants to shop with her. Uh, weird. Blair realizes Brandeis used her to get new clients – just like what she did to Serena. When Serena tries to help Patrick out, he tells her she is being paid to be his girlfriend and that throws her over the edge. She puts him in a cab with an address and is done. Trip’s wife goes to their grandfather and admits that she planned the entire thing in order to get him out of their lives. OOOHHH. Powerful woman, love it. Blair is all sad and moapy in Chuck’s room and blabla all she needs is Chuck. Vanessa watches her footage on the internet but it’s been chopped up and it makes her sad. Olivia and Dan are watching Jimmy Fallon on their anniversary – she went on again to apologize publicly and makes him a cake on the show to wish him Happy Anniversary and Olivia and Jimmy say “I’m sorry” together. Cute. Serena is in the bar at the hotel and Trip comes in for one last private moment and he asks Serena to tell her what’s bothering her. Oy, please no … don’t go there. But it’s Gossip Girl, so they will, I’m sure.
Next week, the only preview we get is a slot machine of people’s faces, clothes on a floor and the word “threesome.” Good grief.
All in all, a typical GG episode. Wonder what the ratings look like. So here’s the big question: Will Serena “go there” with Trip?? Leave your TwoCents below. XOXO.
