What happens when a former high school jock tries to reclaim his glory while his crush pines away for him? We’re about to find out in the warped world of Greendale Community College.

The Dean announces that the school has a new mascot – the Human Beings. Yes, the mascot is a human being, and he gets Pierce to help him come up with what the mascot should look like. It can’t be any one ethnicity because it must encompass the diversity of Greendale. The result is something that looks like one of the Puttie Patrol from the old school Power Rangers.

The Dean also plasters Jeff’s face all over fliers to send to local business promoting the community college, but that would ensure that everyone in town knows his degree wasn’t legit. The Dean tells him that if he can get Troy to play as their star quarterback, he won’t send out the fliers. It takes a little convincing, but eventually Troy thinks the world revolves around him again.

Annie is devastated by this, since Troy had been her amazing study partner and she crushes on him big time. After appealing to Jeff, he relents and tells Troy that he shouldn’t play ball. Troy reveals that in high school, he got hurt playing ball on purpose because he couldn’t take the pressure of talent scouts. So, now he’s more than happy to play for such a crappy team that there’s no pressure at all.

Shirley asks Britta to go to the bathroom with her and Britta declines which is wrong in the female sins handbook. Jeff of all people breaks it down to Britta, so she ventures out and a bathroom visit ends with Britta telling Shirley that all makeup companies are made by men and women are just robots to The Man. This does not go over well, so Britta gets her chance to give good advice in the bathroom to Annie who has a hopeless crush on Troy. Britta tells her that if Troy doesn’t get that Annie is worth dating, that’s his problem, not hers. Shirley is proud of Britta and they celebrate with a hug in the bathroom.

In the bumper, Abed and Troy take over the P.A. system and are busted by the security team who look…just like an older version of Abed and Troy.

Memorable lines

School spirit!
The Dean: Did you know that Greendale has a football team?
Jeff: Did you know they had a football?

When not being racist becomes racist
Jeff: You’re a football player, it’s in your blood.
Troy: That’s racist.
Jeff: Your soul.
Troy: That’s racist.
Jeff: Your eyes?
Troy: That’s gay.
Jeff: That’s homophobic
Troy: That’s black.
Jeff: That’s racist!
Troy: Damn!

Call me T-Bone
Troy: How did you know my nickname was T-Bone?
Jeff: Because you’re a football player, and your name begins with a T.

  1. Rachel says:

The Jeff/Troy racist quote was the BEST! Man, I love this show and it keeps getting better… although I missed Senor Chang this time around.

Which reminds me… one of my favorite quotes was when Abed said he was going to “Lay low this episode.” I about did a spit-take on that one!
