Previously on Gossip Girl, Dan likes Olivia. Chuck and Blair play games with their love. Vanessa and Nate used to hang out. Carter admitted to what he did to the Buckleys and Serena wonders if they will hurt him.

Blair is having some weird dream where she is Betty Davis in “All About Eve.” She is no Betty Davis – she’s Audrey Hepburn! Nate’s cousin, Trip, is running for Congress and Nate is helping on the campaign, especially since the Buckleys are running attack ads against him. Nate heard that Carter was being shipped off to Texas to work off his debt working on one of their oil rigs, which would take about twenty years. Nate has a plan to help him though. Rufus and company are packing up the loft and Vanessa is in the running to give a speech about the good she’s been doing on campus. Rufus is such a dad, giving her advice and encouraging her. Olivia is back in town and Dan can’t wait to see her. Aw, how cute. Nate’s idea to help Carter is to play against Bree’s cousin PJ in a poker game since Bree told him all of his tells. Vanessa is chosen over Blair (so it seems) to give a speech at the parents’ weekend freshman dinner and Blair is not happy. Dan invites Olivia to go with him to the dinner and meet his parents and she is excited. As Vanessa invites her parents to the dinner, and Blair prepares to take down Vanessa, Olivia calls the coordinator and agrees to give the speech. Scandalous! Blair was never in the running to begin with!

Blair goes to the coordinator and makes a case for herself and puts down Vanessa, but he lets her know Olivia was the first choice and accepted the invitation but no matter what, Vanessa would’ve been the second choice. Serena and Nate go to some sketchy warehouse to play PJ in the poker game. Vanessa meets with Dan about not bringing Olivia so she can give her speech as originally planned, although she’s not telling Dan the actual reason. Instead, she lies and says Olivia is freaking out about meeting the parents. Serena is losing at poker but Nate thinks he has the last hands in the bag. They are playing for Carter and Nate puts up a picture of his cousin at his bachelor party. Yes, the same cousin running for congress. Nate and Serena lose the game – surprised? I’m not. But man, that PJ guy should stick around!

We get to meet Vanessa’s mom, Gabriella. She’s quite an interesting woman. This should make for a fun evening. Blair wants Chuck to play their “game” with Mr. Ellis, the speech coordinator although Blair doesn’t tell Chuck who he is. OOH. I read about this over the summer and I can’t wait for it!! Nate and Serena are talking about losing the game and we find out the picture Nate gave PJ was fake and he did it for the sake of his family and feels bad about hurting Serena. Back at Lily and Rufus’, Vanessa’s mom is not fitting in and puts down pretty much everything they talk about. YES!! THE CHUCK KISS!!!! Chuck and Mr. Ellis kiss in the bar. AHHH!!!! Oh how long I’ve waited for this since the scene leaked out over the summer. Blair gets her speech because she saw the kiss (of course) and Chuck admits to kissing guys before. Gasp. NOT. When Dan burns the dinner he was cooking for Olivia, she convinces him to take her to the parents’ dinner and meet his family. OY.

At the venue for the dinner, Blair informs Vanessa she took the speech away from her. Vanessa begs her to let her give the speech and Blair doesn’t care. Thanks to Vanessa’s lies (there are so many lies on top of lies I can’t keep up), Olivia thinks Rufus and Lily don’t want to meet her because they think she is a typical Hollywood shallow dumb chick (how Vanessa’s mom views celebrities) so she shows up in a skimpy dress and acts a fool. Chuck shows up to the dinner and figures out the stunt Blair pulled to get her toast. Serena confronts Nate about the picture and he tells her he did it on purpose. Once the Buckleys leak the fake picture, the Van Der Bilts will put out the real one, making the Buckleys look like liars, thus winning the election for Trip. Serena is upset and wonders about Carter and Nate tells her he’s scum and to move on (I agree!). Back at the dinner, Olivia is digging herself an even bigger hole. Dan and Olivia talk, compare stories and figure out Vanessa was the common denominator in what is going on with them. Vanessa confronts Blair about why she thinks she is better than her while holding a microphone and the entire dinner hears her put down pretty much everyone, and how she used Chuck to get what she wanted.

Vanessa, Dan and Olivia talk about what happened. As she says how great Rufus and Lily are and disses her mom, her mom overhears (of course). What’s going on with all the lies Vanessa has been telling lately? I miss the old, nice, non-lying Vanessa. Carter shows up at Serena’s and she tells him she settled his debt for him. He is not happy about this, as he wanted to pay off his debt and prove to her he was a good guy now. Serena paid off his debt by going to PJ and telling him what Nate was really up to. Carter refuses Serena’s gesture and leaves. WOAH. Wonder what Nate is going to think?? Vanessa’s mom says exactly what I’m thinking: maybe it’s time she thinks about what this place is turning her into. Because of Blair’s outburst and Vanessa’s leaving (and pulling the stunt), Olivia is called upon to give the speech in the end. Which we don’t get to hear.

Dan brings Olivia to the apartment to meet the parents for real and with no pressure. Blair goes to Chuck to ask for forgiveness. It seems as the damage has been done though. Vanessa’s mom skips out on breakfast with her. Blair shows up in the restaurant and they eat together, both alone after their antics. Carter is sent off to Texas. Everyone is enjoying breakfast at Lily and Rufus’.

Next week is Halloween with our GG crew. Chuck is still mad at Blair and Olivia gets down and dirty in a movie.

To be honest, I’m getting bored with this show. The GG kids don’t even look like kids anymore (not like they looked like kids much in the beginning). Even Little J looks about 30 now. And Chuck, at 18 or 19, can open a club? OK THEN. Even the super rich still live in reality. What do you think about it all? Leave your TwoCents below. XOXO.

  1. Meg says:

Sadly, I agree with you – the show isn’t having the same appeal it used to. I used to at least be able to sympathize with Blair, but they’ve made her more of a caricature than a real character. Who knows – maybe it could change!
