Castle’s book “Heat Wave” is out… and his stint with NYPD is over unless he decides to do another Nikki Heat novel. But the Big Guns come knocking (along with Castle’s book agent Debi Mazar), offering Castle a little franchise about a British secret agent whose name is never mentioned (it rhymes with Maimes Pond…). Will he decide to stay with Beckett, or chase his Double-Oh-Something dreams?
The Case: The body of immigrant Aliska Sokol is found shoved down a manhole.
Suspect 1: Clues on the body led NYPD to Aliska’s apartment where they found a photo with the scratched out face of a Mrs. Talbot who lives in the building when Aliska worked in client services. Mrs. Talbot found Aliska’s relationship with her young son Zane a little fishy and mentioned this to the manager of the building. Aliska was subsequently fired and Mrs. Talbot felt awful. She didn’t do it.
Suspect 2: Enter abusive ex-husband of Aliska, Hyak. NYPD discovered that they had a son who had died several years ago… which started the decline of the marriage. It broke Hyak’s heart… he was head-over-heels in love with her. He didn’t do it, either… his alibi checked out.
Suspect 3: A witness said she saw Aliska fighting with Dr. Talbot, Mrs. Talbot’s husband. After some digging, he admits they were having an affair and that he was going to leave his wife. The reason Aliska paid special attention to Zane was that she felt like she was already moving into the role of step-mother to him. The argument the witness say stemmed from Dr. Talbot trying to break off the relationship. His alibi checked out, too.
Suspect 4: The super of the apartment building where Aliska lived told NYPD that a 40-something pretty blond lady had been picking up Aliska’s mail… Mrs Talbot! No, wait… that’s not Mrs. Tablot, it’s Dr. Talbot’s Secretary! He asked her to collect Aliska’s mail AND to lie about his alibi!
Suspect 5: Back to you, Dr. Talbot! Apparently, Aliska’s son and Zane were born on the same day, in the same hospital, one with a fatal heart condition and one healthy. Dr. Talbot couldn’t bear telling his wife that their son would die, so he switched the babies. Aliska found out and was in the process of proving that Zane was indeed her child. Dr. Talbot (whom she was not having an affair with) tried to pay her off, but it didn’t work so he killed her. His secretary was there to intercept the DNA test so no one would ever know.
Castle and Beckett: “Heat Wave” (which you can actually buy and read!) is a stunning success and Castle is offered WAY more than that special secret agent job to do more books (funny how that coincided with ABC calling for more episodes of Castle, huh?). So, the gang is back together.
Favorite Moment: During a chase scene through a restaurant kitchen, Castle stops to sample some desserts.
Favorite Quote: “Kinda tastes like soap… I like it.” –Castle trying some Czech candy.
