Pop quiz! Which show is getting funnier and funnier, and only promises to keep going full steam ahead? Hint: You’re about to read the recap! Every week I laugh out loud more and more, and the characters (yes, even Pierce) are starting to grow on me. Ladies and gents of the study group: I think we’ve found a winner.

Jeff looks for the ultimate blow off class and winds up in Professor Whitman’s course. There’s a lot of carpe diem talk, and throwing away of books so if you thought this was a philosophy class…well, you’d be wrong. It’s accounting, but the professor wants everyone to seize the day! Eagerly, Jeff tells the rest of study group to be sure and register for the class. They all wind up doing just that, and on their first day of class together are instructed to all stand on their desks. “All your life, people have told you not to stand on your desks. Why?” At that moment a young woman falls and possibly breaks something. The homework is to tell ten people ‘I love you’ which seems easy enough, especially for Shirley.

Whitman is onto Jeff thinking that the class is simply blow off, and tells him that if he isn’t genuinely seizing the day by the end of the week, he’ll fail the course. Of course Jeff tries to stage his seizing by dressing like “an 80s rapist” (this outfit consists of rainbow suspenders and a blinking Christmas tie), flying a kite through the quad and jumping rope with children. The professor sees through all of it though, and Jeff is in danger.

Meanwhile, Abed tells Britta that he can’t go to film classes because his dad will only let him take classes that will help him run a falafel business. She thinks this is downright insane, so she pays to get Abed into the class and gets his supplies. Abed’s father, Principal Figgins from Glee, is none too happy about this and tells Britta to mind her own business, but of course she doesn’t back down. She gives Abed more money, which he uses to buy pizza and coffee for everyone in study group. Jeff tries to explain to Abed why he should be going to the classes, since Britta is paying for them, but he says making his film is more important. Later, Britta, Jeff, and Principal Figgins all gather in the library to argue until Abed says that his film is ready. When they sit down to watch, it looks like a Jib-Jab film that amounts to Abed believing his father wishes he didn’t exist. Principal Figgins cries and tells his son that he can pursue his dream of film school, but the falafel business has to be his fall back. After the Abed plot is all cleared up, Britta and Jeff stand outside and she suggest that maybe he kiss her. He does, and when she breaks the kiss we see the Professor happily exclaiming that the day has been seized! Britta smirks, saying that she and Jeff are now even.

In a random plot, Troy sneezes like a nine year old girl, and Pierce coaches him to better sneezing techniques. In the bumper scene of the episode, Troy, Abed, and Jeff are crumpin’ in the library, which is apparently some kind of dance, but who knows. I don’t understand youth today anyway.

Best lines:

So delicate
Jeff: Hey, Troy sneezes like a girl!
Troy: And how about I pound you like a boy – that didn’t come out right.

Can a guy make a living?
Abed: 9/11 was pretty much the death of the falafel business.

My first film
Abed: I’m doing a documentary. They’re like real movies but with ugly people.

Go be pretty somewhere else
Abed’s father, to Jeff: You, go host American Idol.

Are you on board with Community yet? I’ve heard through the grapevine that people aren’t digging Pierce so much, and that Britta is too abrasive for some people. If one character is holding you back, which one is it and why? That’s your homework for the week, and don’t forget – Community is changing times starting NEXT WEEK! Be sure to tune in at 8/7 central for an all new episode next Thursday. And don’t forget to leave your Two Cents in the comments!

I’m not bored with Community, not one bit. This is the funniest show on NBC right now. People aren’t digging Pierce? He’s hilarious: “Voice command…voice command…voice command…” That’s classic stuff. I think this is a dynamic cast with great characters to portray. Right now, I think its doing a great job of filling in where “Earl” was taken out. When 30 Rock returns, NBC will have a very funny Thursday night lineup.

If you didn’t know what crumpin’ was before this episode, then “Community” might be your own little class in pop-culture this season. You get to laugh and learn at the same time: WIN-WIN!!

I love the connection you made between Glee and Community – nice job! Great review! See you next week!

I completely agree – I can’t wait until 30 Rock is back, and my Thursday night will be complete. This show is absolutely hilarious, and I beg to differ with anyone who would argue that 🙂

      Thanks for the comment!

This show ROCKS! I agree with PG – it’s the funniest show on NBC right now. So fresh, so fast, so wrong (in a good way). I guess it helps a little that I work at a community college myself!

And I about died when that desk collapsed! Classic!

    Great job, B!

It would have been funnier if NBC hadn’t played that commercial all week – but it was still just as good when she fell.

      Thanks, Rachel!
