Double crosses, explosions, cheap, nasty sex in public places, and Elvis singing Hava Nagila. Guess this episode really does have it all.

Kurt Sutter and the gang do a great job of balancing this episode. While most of it centers around Gemma and Clay, it’s hard to pinpoint any characters who don’t get their share of nice moments. Week after week, this is showing itself as one of the best ensembles on television.

While on repo detail, Opie notices one of Darby’s men dealing meth, but there are too many Aryans in the vicinity to make an issue. The matter comes back to Clay, who knows that Zobelle is behind it. SAMCRO has kept drugs out of Charming, and Zobelle knows dealing will weaken their position. When they finally get the location of the lab, Clay decides to test Hale’s loyalty by giving him the information first. Hale checks out the site, but reports the tip to Jax as bogus. The gang takes out the lab themselves, with Opie taking more risks, leading Jax to wonder if he has a death wish.

But overall, it’s Luann’s new studio that serves as the hub for the bulk of the episode. As Bobby recovers from his wounds, Clay has him take over the bookkeeping, as opposed to playing bar mitzvahs. Luann flips out at the decision, and Gemma heads to the studio to calm her down. Clay follows, and the two have a serious row in the parking lot. Much of the action is due to pent up tension on Gemma’s part. Unser wants her to join a support group, Tara asks her to take an HIV test, and she continues to hide the assault from Clay, who only knows that he’s being pushed away.

Bobby confides in Jax that the gang is noticing the rift between him and Clay, a situation made worse when Clay doesn’t tell Jax about Bobby’s new role. Digging further into the business dealings, Bobby finds that Luann has been skimming from SAMCRO. He is ready to take the matter to Clay, but Luann seduces him in an effort to keep him quiet.

But surprisingly, the nastiest sexual encounter is generated by Tara. After a quiet, romantic moment is broken by Chibs’ call about Luann freaking out, Jax heads to the studio. Luann asks him to take care of her star, Ima. Tara gets upset seeing her on Jax’s bike, and Gemma urges her to make a public showing to mark her territory. Crashing the wrap party for Luann’s first project, Tara squares off against Ima, but backs away. Instead, she throws Jax up against the wall of the Ladies’ room. In the middle of this tryst, Ima catches them in the act, realizes her place and slinks away.

Have to applaud the music as well. The theme song has been stuck in my head all day, and when I think about it, there’s not too many theme songs that I enjoy out of context Someday, I want to hear the full version of that song. Nice choice for the closing song as well, which punctuates the encounter between Jax and Tara. It’s not romantic, it’s not brutal…I think the word would be “desperate”. Like Tara, it has the feel of grabbing you by the hair and making sure you’re not going anywhere.

So there’s my two cents…How did you like the music? Any songs you’re expecting in the future? Drop your comments below, or drop me a line at: tom@thetwocents.com.
