Remember how I said that an episode of ‘Battlestar Galactica’ can be identified by the lack of tears Laura Roslin cries? It’s true, because as we inch toward the number one happiest episode, it’s harder and harder to find the moments that make you want to eat your soul. So, as we wrap up our bottom five with ‘Home Part 2’, look for less terrible moments.
In case you don’t remember, in Home Part 1, Commander Adama was healing from multiple gunshot wounds after Boomer plugged him in the CIC. Laura had spent most of the season escaping from the brig of Galactica (hilarious now looking back) and she, Lee, Tom Zarek, Helo, Starbuck, the GOOD Sharon and one of Zarek’s henchmen are all on the planet Kobol looking for the Tomb of Athena. Part two starts with Adama having decided to bring his family back together, which leads to the happiest moments.
Happiest moment number one: When Lee is reunited with his father. Apollo left his father’s side not knowing if he’d ever see the man again. When they finally realize who they’re pointing their respective guns at, they drop their weapons and hug in a way they haven’t since the mini-series. It was extremely touching.
Happiest moment number two: Laura is reunited with her aide, Billy. Billy had stayed behind for her little field trip because of moral conflict, but the way her face lights up when she sees him goes to show that she doesn’t hold it against him. She considers him a surrogate son and it shows.
Happiest moment number three: Bill admits to Laura that if it weren’t for her, the entire fleet would be dead. In a nutshell (because I love the entire talk and could honestly give it to you line by line), he tells her that each day was a gift. Not from the Gods, but from her. (I dare you to tell me he didn’t care for her deeply by that point!)
Happiest moment number four: Back on Galactica, Head!Six starts frakking with Gaius, telling him that she is just a hallucination after all. He goes to Cottle to see if there’s a chip in his head, but the cylon won’t give him a break. Gaius can’t stop fidgeting and Cottle mutters that he’s just ‘another hypochondriac’. It was worth the laughs, anyway.
Happiest moment number five: Laura, Bill, Starbuck and Lee finally see the map to Earth. It turns out to be the constellations, and in the moment, they actually stand on Earth. It’s a chilling moment filled with hope that still gives me goosebumps.
The only Soul Eating moment: When Adama gets to Kobol and the happy reunions are over, he suddenly comes face to face with Sharon. It’s not the same one that shot him but close enough. He rages at her, throwing the pregnant cylon to the ground and attempting to choke the life out of her. The rest of the people eventually get him off of her, but for a few seconds it really looks as if he’s going to kill her on the spot.
So what did you think? Are there actually more soul eating moments you’ve seen that I missed? Let me know, and leave your Two Cents in the comments!

I love it when Lee and the Old Man hug. They’re so screwed up that any sign of affection between them is super touching. ❤
The happiest moments in the show for me are the ones where Laura isn’t making crappy decisions. 🙂
I have to say, I think she makes decisions like any leader who never has been a leader before would. Which is to say no, they aren’t always right or tied up neatly with a bow. But considering the circumstances, she did as well as I think anyone should have expected.
P.S.: Laura Roslin is my favorite character…don’t mean to be biased here, but I am 😉
lol. Oh man, Roslin really grates on my nerves on many occasions. 🙂
