This tine of year is very depressing to me. I am extra depressed after Supernatural’s season finale. With the exception of the last seal being broken and Lucifer rising (hence the title) I am very satisfied. We found out who the good guys were (and it was definitely not Ruby or most of the angels), the boys are back together and Ruby finally got hers.

We start of the episode with a very sick flashback of the Yellow-Eyed Demon taking on a convent of nuns. He thought he would break the seal and release Lucifer.

Back in real time, Bobby puts the smack down on Dean and tells him he is being a “whiny brat” over the whole Sam thing. “Family is supposed to make you miserable”, Bobby tells Dean. And then he compares him to his father, saying that John was a coward and that Dean was a better man that him. Turn, upset, turns away, but when he turns around, he is not at Bobby’s anymore. He is in a fancy room as Castile appears and tells him it is almost time.

Lilith’s “chef” is preparing her latest meal as Sam and Ruby show up just in time. They take her to a remote place to “squeeze” her for information. She won’t talk. Ruby insists on Sam just draining her then, but the demon lets the woman she possessed back out to mess with Sam.

As Dean waits, a table of his favorite cheeseburgers and beer appears and so do Zachariah and Castile. There is a joke about “the Suite Life of Zach and Cass” (funny if you have kids. Zachariah explains that they are keeping Dean safe until his time and he can have anything he wants. However, he wants answers, which is one thing that they are not offering. Zachariah tells his that he swore his obedience and it is time to obey, which doesn’t sit well with Dean. He decides to finally call Sam and leaves him a bitter sweet message about wanting to kick his butt, but he is still family.

Flashback time as we see what happens after the Yellow-Eyed Demon slaughters all the nuns. One is possessed and says that only Lilith can open the seal and he would need to find a very special child (a.k.a. Sam).

Sam does his research and finds out about the slaughtering from what information Lilith’s demon tells them. They leave to go to the convent and take the demon with them, though Sam is reluctant. Ruby insists that the demon is playing mind games with him.

Dean is visited by Castile. He insists that they let him go see Sam, but Castile tells him that he is allowed anything but that. Sounds fishy to me…..Dean says he will just leave, just to find that all the doors in the room are gone. Now Dean is pissed, so he decides to make his own way out. But as he beats through the wall, it simply comes back. Zachariah returns with the plans for what is to come. It turns out that the angels have been behind the whole thing with the seals and raising Lucifer (shock, ah, surprise). When Dean asks about God, Zachariah tells him that God has left the building. Both Sam and Dean have a destiny in this: Sam to kill Lilith, the last seal to open, and Dean to kill Lucifer after the angels and demons have a war.

Lilith arrives at the convent. Not too far behind are Sam and Ruby. Sam listens to the message left by Dean, but of course it is completely different, just adding fuel to Sam’s fire. He is ready to fuel up (by way of the demon in the trunk) and go kick some butt. Too bad that is not what should be happening.

Castile comes to visit Dean, who gives him a major guilt trip for just obeying, knowing it is not right. Castile insists that things will be better after the Armageddon. Dean is angry and punches him, only to hurt himself with a metal thunk. Dean begs for his help, and Castile insists that they would be hunted and killed for their actions. Dean doesn’t care and Castile disappears. He is not gone for long though as he returns and pushes Dean against the wall, covering his mouth. After Cass cuts his arm, he draws a symbol on the wall in blood as Zachariah appears. The symbol sends Zachariah away and Castile warns Dean that Lilith is the last seal and if she dies, the Apocalypse begins. With a flash, Castile and Dean end up at Chuck’s house.

Chuck is working on his story “Lucifer Rising.” He is also apparently ordering hookers because he knows the end is coming. When Dean and Castile appear, he freaks out because this was not meant to happen. He reveals where Sam is and as the archangels arrive, Castile send Dean to the convent.

Sam has wiped out al of the demons and is headed for Lilith. Ruby sees Dean and slams the door so that he cannot stop Sam. Sam begins to attack Lilith, but stops as he hears Dean. Lilith taunts him since he became a monster to stop her but is not finishing the job. He turns, and as his eyes go black, finished her off.

Ruby is so proud of herself. She got Sam to do her dirty work, and it did not take much work. He is angry as the blood drains from Lilith’s body, opening the seal. Dean busts in and charges Ruby. Sam holds her as Dean kills her. They look on as the seal opens.
