The wedding has arrived! Or, at least, the rehearsal dinner for New Christine and Richard. Christine deals by pretending to be in love with Todd, that guy from her high school days. And Matthew gets a new love interest- in New Christine’s sister.
Christine is a worryingly good mood, bragging about her dinner toast and declaring it her own day. Matthew’s slightly less happy, feeling cynical about love in general. This keeps up all the way to the dinner, where Barb looks down on all the men present. Richard gets fed up with Matthew’s moodiness and cuts out his speech, but before he can go off and sulk, New Christine takes him to meet her half-sister, Amy. Christine assures everyone she’s fine, thanks to her date, but Richard doubts whether he actually exists. He does, though things don’t seem to be getting off on the right foot.
As the dinner progresses, New Christine announces a surprise- a 45-minute slide show of her and Richard’s love. Matthew wants to drink himself into a stupor for this, but the annoyed bartender isn’t actually a bartender- she’s Amy. Meanwhile, Todd continues to act like a jerk, and eventually makes a move on Amy- which gets her and Matthew into the coat room in about two seconds flat. The slide show begins, complete with total life stories of both Richard and New Christine. As Todd throws himself on (Old) Christine, we begin to wonder if the wedding will ever happen.
Most likely it will, but not until next week. The slide show is over, and Barb is stumbling drunk from trying to make the men around her look good. But she’s still logical enough to point out that Christine is not in love with Todd and is very much jealous of Richard. Her evening gets worse as theirs gets better, and soon Todd’s dancing in a…very unusual way. Except it turns out he likes her now. She feels bad until he tells her what she can do to make him stay. Then she kicks him out. They move on to speeches, just as Matthew and New Christine reappear from the coat closet. Matthew’s speech isn’t depressing, but it is short. So it’s time for Christine’s- but she’s hiding in the closet herself. Barb eventually manages to drag her back in. The speech does not go well. But New Christine thinks it’s hilarious.
What Old Christine Taught Me This Week:
1. New Christine is very naive
2. Christine doesn’t come off well to strangers
3. Slides shows about the love of people in love are rarely fun.
4. People who are fine don’t throw things
5. Apparently you can date your sister’s ex-husband’s new fiancé’s sister.

She looks like Rashida Jones.
