The four remaining teams battle their way through Beijing, China, on the penultimate leg of The Amazing Race. With the second of only two U-Turns looming, and a task that has the racers eating exotic Chinese food (fried whole scorpion, anyone?), things could get interesting… and the race could come down to seconds (or a single poor choice, however you want to look at it).
The Top 4 Things I Learned from The Amazing Race 14
Tammy & Victor [Siblings/Lawyers]: Having three legs of the race in China so far has really helped them out (“If we can’t do this task, mom and dad will kill us!”). At the Detour, they chose “Chinese Waiter” which had them taking orders, in Mandarin mind you, in a restaurant and relaying those orders to the chef. If the people got the right food, the siblings got the next clue. It didn’t take them long to complete the task, even with Victor micromanaging like he does, and they got to Phil at the Bird’s Nest Stadium (anyone watch the Olympics?) in 1st place, winning a trip for two to the Galapagos Islands and a spot in the Finale next week.
Margie & Luke [Mother/Son]: At the Detour, the mother/son team chose “Beijing Opera” which had them putting on the make up and costumes of a traditional Chinese Opera “Princess” and “Gentleman.” Margie did a pretty good job making up Luke, but, boy! Did Luke do a horrible job on Margie “He made me look like Alice Cooper.” They arrived at the U-Turn to find that Tammy and Victor had U-Turned Margie and Luke’s arch rivals Kisha and Jen. Hooray! They sailed through the next task, a Road Block, where Margie had to eat fried whole scorpion, larvae, grasshoppers, and starfish. Margie, you’re my hero. They got to the Pit Stop in 2nd.
Cara & Jaime [Former NFL Cheerleaders]: Talk about a cultural block! These two had the ugly American attitude of “how dare all these Chinese people be in China!” They had some bad luck with taxi drivers, as usual, and slowly began to implode. After three hours searching for the U-Turn location (which is always right next to the Detour location… have they never watched the show?), they turned on each other, certain they had lost the race. And if Kisha and Jen had not been U-Turned, they probably would have come in last. But… fate (or a bottle of water) was on their side and they got to Phil in 3rd.
Kisha & Jen [Sisters]: First they were U-Turned and had to perform both the “Chinese Waiter” and “Beijing Opera” Detours, Jen had a bit of a problem with the Road Block eating task. She drank 4 bottles of water in order to down all that gross food, so when they arrived at the Bird’s Nest Stadium, she actually had to stop at a porta-potty to pee! Had she not stopped, they probably would have been in the Finale. How embarrassing!
What do YOU think? How close do you think it was? Could you have eaten those things at the Road Block? Give us your Two Cents… We’ll buy some scorpions and fry them up for our next staff party.
Next Week: The Season 14 Finale!!!
